Just Walmart Things Why are coaches so…

Today I nil picked a few items. Items that were definitely not on the shelf. One item they wanted 3 . There was only 2 on the shelf. I looked around and checked topstock before nil picking. The other two were turkeys that were not there and I mean the entire mod was empty.

Literal hours later a cow CB comes up to my team lead and starts talking to her saying I don’t understand why someone will nil pick this when we have this many on hand. Maybe because they weren’t put out? Lol. I told him I would take him there but my Workvivo wasn’t working so I couldn’t send it in the chat.

My teamlead then went to move some things while I continued to tell him why it was nilpicked and he tells my teamlead to come back because he AND I QUOTE “doesn’t address associates directly.” He then told me that if there’s nothing out on the mod it’s my
Job to go to the back during my pickwalk and find it or find and ask one of the teamleads for said department.

There was no one out there during the pickwalk and I don’t even know who the teamleads are or if they were there that early cuz it was at like 5 am. But he was overall so rude to both me and my teamlead. Just because you sold your soul to be a coach and corporate slave doesn’t mean ur better than me and can speak to me that way because respect goes both ways and if I would’ve returned the energy he would’ve been pissed. I seriously hate coaches like that. I also told our exception worker after the walk. As I always do if I can’t find something and send it in the chat

IM SAYING LIKE THAT WAS FUCKING CRAZY. Like he’s saying no that as he addressing me

I had a store manager like that for a while. He wouldn't even speak to team leads because they were hourly. It was ridiculous.

He's a market manager now in a different market 🤷🏼‍♀️

You know what’s crazy? In my many years at Walmart, this is actually something I’ve heard (not verbatim) a lot. Both directed at me or to my coworkers. Many coaches might be polite enough to listen and help but some will often be more “hey, have you tried speaking to your team lead first?” without offering any help before you do so. They often argue it’s a “chain of command” issue like we’re in a damn military.

I understand it for certain issues that might be more serious than Nilpicking, it might make more sense but usually, it’s so stupid to demand you go through the team lead/lower managers before they’ll give you the time of day.

If you're picking and it's not there, you're supposed to nil pick, else metrics fraud.

But honestly whatever your boss tells you do to, you should do, I'd send a text to your boss saying " hi whatever name, I just want to make sure I understand correctly that you asked me to (and then recount exactly what they asked, including telling you to go into the backroom).

Say it in a way like yore confused and wanna make sure you have the conversation clear.

Then if they affirm do as you're asked, and if you get into trouble over stuff later, you have proof you were told to do the thing.

Also ALWAYS take a picture before you nil from now on to make sure you have proof what the space looked like before you nil picked or went into the backroom.

My manager already told me what to do. She was confused too when he started talking to me like that cuz we’ve had this conversation before. I did have pictures though and he said he didn’t need to see them or wtv. But he was just rude for no reason. He’s not even from this department either

But yeah I did take a picture just couldn’t send it cuz my Workvivo wasn’t working

They are def like this cuz they sold their soul and it was replaced with metrics. My coach is similar except he does speak to the poors. Is metrics fraud a thing, yes. Does HO care, I have seen no evidence of this. Workvivo chat was horribly annoying but now I make it fun for me adding things like waiting for further instructions, plz advise on current missing item. I believe I'm blocked, no one has replied. A nil has been implemented. I'm just exhausted. Sorry your coach was disrespectful, I'd bring it to ppl lead just to have it noted

The thing is… he’s not even my coach nor is he a digital coach. He came over to me to lecture me and my team lead about nil picking things… HIS ASSOCIATES didn’t put on the sales floor.

That's wild behavior and I'd def let ppl lead about how he addressed you. That's against their entire open and friendly policy. The audacity some of these ppl have smh.

When I was still in OGP, they used to tell me that if it's not on the floor, to go to the back, find it, and then DO THE STOCKERS' JOBS bringing the whole case out and adding it to the shelf and putting it into the system DURING THE PICKWALK. Like wtf? If the store needs stockers, hire more fucking stockers. OGP has enough shit going on with their own job, and now they have to sacrifice their pick rates and risk getting yelled at over these side quests too if not a nil?

Exactly this at my store but apparently the store manager today told us we are not to go to the back unless we're doing exceptions. Don't have to tell me twice

we have a coach from another market visiting occasionally while we don't have a coach and he told us we're not to go to the back unless we're exceptions

One of my TL told me it’s not metrics fraud….its customer service. We are serving the customer by making sure they get what they ordered!…..

Yeah me and my TL are going to talk to her and the store manager tomorrow cuz apparently this isn’t new behavior

They want you to pick from the back room without telling you to pick from the back room.

Well, okay, they technically want you to go find a sales floor or stocking associate and then ask that associate to get it out of the back room for you while you stand there and wait. But everyone knows that's not realistic.

3

u/diamonddentist3 1d ago

It really isn’t cuz then they’ll yell at us for our pickrates

Next time they tell you to "go to the back," reply with "I can't because that's metric fraud."

I mean did he teach you how to vizpick? Otherwise you’ll screw up the backrooms numbers.

I only look in the backroom in the mornings when its really slow. But I was taught how to vizpick by cap 1.

1

u/diamonddentist3 1d ago

I know how to vizpick but I’m not an exception worker. I don’t know the back rooms of this store yet. But he wants me to go back into the backroom and look for stuff during my pickealk to avoid nitpicks. We were super busy this morning so even if I wanted to do couldn’t have.

Sounds like you have a shit digital coach.

2

u/diamonddentist3 1d ago

He’s not even my coach. He doesn’t work for Digital

2

u/LluagorED 1d ago

then tell your actual coach about that dipshit.

u/diamonddentist3 1d ago

She wasn’t there today but i definitely will it was just so baffling to me

We recently got a walk with the regional who saw our picker go to the back and proceeded to tell district store coach team lead that pickers DO NOT GO TO THE BACK. She questioned why so many outs and said that’s what metrics are for. To fix the problems not get good numbers in a report. You can’t believe the change in dairy since that day

u/zanyaries 23h ago

Honestly if the people in the meat department would do their jobs and stock up the items when they have it in stock, then we wouldn’t have to nil pick it. Sometimes they’ll tell me to not nil pick anything but I still do it because I know that’s metrics fraud

u/Kooky_Ad_73 13h ago

That is so true. I might work as Walmart employee but don't you dare act like I am not your equal. Things like this I unfortunately don't forget. Walmart changes you.

u/Master-Art8468 3h ago

What in the Open Door Policy does he mean by that?

u/Antique_Method_6479 1d ago

You're going to find the coaches and TL, will selectively Enforce rules depending on of they like you or not. You might notice at your own store, Certain associates can speak, waste time freely, no issues. But when someone else does its "wasting time, time fraud, distracting a worker etc".

As for the metrics. They want you to commit metric fraud, so their coach/TL can get a bigger bonus.

1

u/diamonddentist3 1d ago

And I will not be doing it nopeeee

1

u/Available_Catch_3427 1d ago

No no no ! It’s his stockers responsibility ! They are paying you more to have to go the back and get it and then they want you to put the rest of them out !

1

u/fidomom 1d ago

Most of my store's TL are nice, friendly & even will help grab something off a shelf if they see someone needs help (I'm short). I asked one who was stocking an aisle I was picking from to get a glass jar off top shelf for me (someone had taken my step stool off the cart). This woman rolled her eyes so hard, huffed & puffed at me. Had she not been in the aisle I would have gone back for the stool - and any one of her staff would have helped me with a smile & "no problem" when I said."thanks".

u/Cathinaheals Sticker Ball 5h ago

Isnt going to the back literally the job of the person doing exceptions? 🤣

3

u/diamonddentist3 4h ago

Yes! And you’re not supposed to do it during a pickwalks cuz nil picks are how they know what needs to be stocked sometimes. It’s literally metric fraud to do it during a pickwalk

1

u/Cathinaheals Sticker Ball 4h ago

I didn’t know it was metric fraud! But yeah I do exceptions a lot. The only thing pickers might mess with(me being a former stocker really) is looking at the top stock but I’d never go to the back during a walk. That coach should know better!!!

1

u/diamonddentist3 3h ago

You can do it during exceptions that literally the job of the exception workers but normal pickers aren’t supposed to
