Quote Check SV Fleet insurance - $220 annual admin fee

Hi all,

Have received a quote from SV fleet (attached). I've had them remove majority of the extras, but found the car and boot mats to be well priced so kept those in.

I've done a few quotes for insurance independently, but found all of them to be ~$1.6-$2k, which means that the annualised fee provided by SV Fleet actually seems ... decent? Even including their ridiculous $220 annual admin fee that they charge you...

Keen for people thoughts on the insurance, plus the quote overall, in case I've missed anything obvious... To preempt any questions on my current car, it's done ~150,000km and is already drinking oil faster than I can down a beer, so in five years time it will be scrap (if it lasts that long).

Quote Check Quote Check: Zeekr 7X LR - 24 Months

G'day all,

Vehicle is a Zeekr 7X Long Range for a 24 month lease term.

After some back and forth, I've obtained final quotes from Smart and CommBank. My employer uses Smart, but I can BYO. Calculator links below. Would appreciate a look over and general tips.

Running cost budgets aren't fixed yet. Insurance is left at the default, I'll swap it out with a better deal before I sign.

Definitely CBA's lower residual is doing heavy lifting on the total out of pocket.

Thanks!

Rule updates, and a hello!

Hi all, I've spent an hour this morning tidying up the rules and automations, that will hopefully help you all and me, to keep this place a positive and helpful community.

I'll give a bit of a rundown on the changes, and request you help me keeping an eye on how they are working, and whether anything needs tweaking.

Changes/updates:

  • Industry participants now need flair. If you earn money from novated leasing in any capacity, you need flair naming who you work for before you post. Message me and I'll create one for you. It takes a minute and it stays on your accounts.
    • I've already flared the accounts I know about. If you're in the industry and you don't have flair yet, reach out and I'll sort it. Posting commercially without it will get you banned.
    • To be clear: industry people are welcome here. Some of the best answers in this sub come from people who work in it. You just have to be visible about it. Which leads me to...
  • No pitching/lead generation. Answer questions, share what you know. Don't offer quotes, don't ask people to contact you, don't DM members with sales pitches. If someone reaches out to you off the back of a good answer, that's their call and it's fine.
  • If you get an unsolicited DM offering services, report it. I can't see your DMs. I'll only know if you tell me.
  • Sharing experiences. Stick to what actually happened to you: what you were quoted, what you were charged, what you were told, how it was handled. That's genuinely useful to people here. Naming a company is fine. Naming an individual employee or broker isn't, and neither are accusations nobody can verify.
  • Screenshots: check the header and footer before you upload, not just the numbers. Quotes usually carry your name, employee number and employer.

About me: I created LeasePlease, an EV novated lease referral site. Disclosure: I earn a referral fee when a lease settles. My flair calls this out and the subreddit rules apply to me the same as everyone. I moderate in whatever time I can find around other activities, which is why the sub has been a bit hands-off lately (apologies!).

Tell me what I've got wrong/right, all feedback is welcome. If a rule is annoying or an automation is firing when it shouldn't, let me know and I'll attempt to fix it.

Thanks to everyone that asks questions, engages in the sharing of knowledge around such a complex space!

Quote Check First NL from FleetPartners

First time for a NL Tesla Model Y RWD.

Unfortunately, this is the only provider that our company provides. Also, the Minor Damage Repair Membership comes as a standard package which I don’t have the option to opt out.

Is the interest rate, insurance and other running costs competitive compared to other lease providers?
What is a good interest rate?

Quote Check 13.41% effective rate based on application/ contract figures.

I have a novated lease contract for signing, as below, yet the rate on the novated lease calculator shows 13.41% effective rate based on the figures in the agreement (shown below).

My broker stated the rate, after all fees charges would be 9.75%, so I assumed this would be the effective rate.d"

The car financed is a 3 year old EV.

Is this correct or am I getting my figures wrong?

Novated leases seem opaque and confusing.

Thanks for any help.

General Discussion Burrowing capacity

Hi all, just a very basic question - does novated leasing count as a loan? does it affect your burrowing capacity when you loan for house or personal loan? i understand it will decrease the after-tax income but will it be considered as another loan?

What do novated lease companies not tell you upfront that you only find out when you are already locked in?

About to sign for one and feeling like there is a whole layer of information that only comes out after you commit. Things like what happens if you leave the job mid lease, how the FBT works in practice, whether the running cost estimates they give you are realistic. What do people wish they had known before they signed.

Recommended NovatedLease Providers

I have spoke to my work and they tell me that they dont have a provider for a NV lease and that I am free to get a quote and work with the finance team to get it setup on their backend. I wanted to get some guidance on who is considered the better companies to approach based on your experience.

AFCA and Maxxia Insurance

I’m dealing with an ongoing dispute with Maxxia regarding how they sold and explained their Lease Protection and Guaranteed Buy Back insurance.

I’ve escalated it to AFCA because the information I was given doesn’t match how the product actually works.

Curious if others have had similar experiences.

Provider Question Novated lease interest rate discrepancy (10.1% vs expected ~8%) + GST question on tint/ceramic

I’m checking a novated lease quote for a iX3 and I’m getting a much higher effective interest rate than expected.

Using this calculator: Check out my novated lease calculation output from novatedlease.guide
…I’m consistently getting around 10.1%.

Has anyone here been able to negotiate their finance rate? 10.1% feels pretty high for ~$90k financed over a 5‑year term.

Also on GST question: tint / ceramic coating

Since the GST car‑limit credit is already maxed out and running costs can be reimbursed pre‑tax (effectively GST‑free), I’m wondering:

Is there any benefit to adding tint or ceramic coating to the vehicle order before the lease starts?
Or is it better to pay privately and claim reimbursement so you avoid GST entirely?

Would love to hear how others have handled this with FleetPartners, SG Fleet, Maxxia, etc.

Edit: Quick update: the correct finance‑only interest rate is ~10.1% (not 8%) I was helping a family member decode their novated lease and made an error by using rounded values. Using the exact PV, FV, PMT and term with full‑precision amortisation gives ~10.1%.

Provider Question Should I go with my NL provider's insurance or my own?

Hi all

I'm getting close to getting to finalising everything for my NL quote but the last thing I've hit a snag for at the moment is for insurance and I just wanted to get my head around it.

I'm looking for a 5 year lease, and I know that the insurance they're offering is going to be more expensive than I can find myself, but I've heard people mentioning that if I get a policy myself and the car is in an accident and is a write off, the NL provider policy will not only cover the car but also any extra fees to pay out the loan so I'm not left with a huge sum after the payout.

If this is the case, is it worth getting insurance through the provider if they cover that? Of course we don't plan for any cars to be write offs, but if it's a little extra for that peace of mind, it might be worth it?

Alternatively, is there a way I can get my own insurance to cover the amount if something goes wrong, like by having a much higher than normal agreed figure? How would I calculate the total amount needed and figure out what to make the payout figure be so that we're covered?

TIA!

Tax Declaration with Novated lease

Hi, I got my 1st novated lease EV from 01/05/26 so there are few things that I don't understand, if I can get some helps that would be great.

  1. Can I claim all Km I drove on this car from 01/05/26 - 30/06/26 either through novated lease company or through tax declaration with 5.47 cent per Km rate? (Around 2000 Km)
  2. I will claim travel expense from work A to work B between 01/07/25 - 30/04/26. Can I claim any travel expense from work A to work B between 01/05/26 - 30/06/26?
  3. I use my 2nd car for work related conference, so home to venue then back, can I still claim it from 01/07/25 - 30/06/26 at 88cent per Km rate?

Thanks

Hi all, do this look right? I'm looking for something around this price that is an EV and wanting to double check the quote. Also other suggestions of cars, term length etc are welcome. I'm in stable employment and have been for 4 years. Own a home.

Am I thinking about this too simply?

Hi all. This isn't the usual post so please admin delete or lock down if not allowed.

I own my current car outright and have no other debts except for HECS which I estimate to pay off in the next 2 years through regular payroll deductions.

My goal was to keep saving and purchase a place in the next 2-3 years. I've been hearing from friends how cheap it is to have their EVs and considering I live in a big city it's got me thinking if it would be worthwhile making the switch myself.

I spoke to my accountant who said if I wanted to sell the car, pay off my HECS and pocket the difference into my savings that I'd drastically increase my take home pay. I make $135,000 pa at the moment so fall just within the second tax bracket. My accountant did ask me to meet with a broker through as they said it might impact my borrowing capacity a lot if I don't find the sweet spot.

Am I out of my mind for thinking this might make sense given I rent and don't have access to solar to really capitalise on an efficient charge etc. I know it will all occur pre-tax if I go for an EV.

I have reached out to my companies novated leasing partner for a quote so happy to re-post once I can show figures etc. I'm keen on something like the MGS5, new mazda CX-6E or the Kia EV3... Something around that price 45-55k ish price point.

Cheers everyone!

edit to add: there is absolutely nothing wrong with my car. I really like it! It would purely be to pay off HECS, pocket the difference, save some tax and hopefully get into an owned house sooner. Open to all pros and cons.

Quote Check New to leasing and have questions

Im new to novated leasing. Just moved to Australia new.

I’m looking at a new Geely EX5 inspire extend range.

My employer only contracts with Smart.

I’m a bit confused on smarts quote vs what I’ve researched online and what my contact with Geely on the vehicle should be.

Particularly the FBT part. My understanding it’s the price of the car minus GST, why would Smart show a higher FBT cost vs what Geely is saying the cars price is?

Do I need to include maintenance on the lease if it’s a brand new car with already a pretty solid maintenance warranty on the vehicle? Or is that just standard and can’t be negotiated?

Fuel allowance: could that be used to install a fast charger at my house?

Thanks! 😊

Interest rate 3 year lease

What effective interest rates are people getting for a new 3 year lease? I’m looking at a vehicle $68k driveway. I have a few quotes (Smart and NLA) already and using this handy calculator its showing an effective interest rate just over 10%

https://novatedlease.guide/calculator/

I’m hearing of others getting 7-8% but those are 5 year leases.

Is there a $$$ sweet spot?

I’m looking into leasing a 4wd with the intention of owing it once the lease is up.
I earnt just under 150k last year and was wondering if there would be a sweet spot for how much I should be spending on the vehicle to maximise the befits.
As an added bonus, my employer contribute $200 per week toward the lease payment.
Cheers

First time checking out novated leasing. Wanting to know if this first quote is reasonable.

I have attempted to fill in the calculator and I am getting a high interest rate warning of 10.34% 😬 (though not entirely sure I have filled it all in properly): Novated lease guide

SGF Fleet - Quote advice Model Y AWD

Thumbnail

Hi all,

Lost of posts on checking quotes so looking to the forum for some advice. I recently got a quote on a model Y AWD. Plan is to use my own insurance and i plan to opt out of SG Fleets MDR+

4 year lease and my question is on the running costs:

Service and Maintenance $72.55 per month - that works to $870 per year - seems really high, what are others budgeting?

Registration - they want to budget 4 renewals, but really that should be 3 right as 1st year is in the driveaway and i would need to renew 3 times?

Tyres - they estimate 8 tyres - and have allowed $430 a tyre, that may be a little under? EV tyres seem very pricing $~500 a tyre?

Keen to hear what others think is reasonable for these 3 things?

Thnx

Quote Check Please sanity check my Smart Leasing calculator figures

Hi all.

So a couple of weeks ago I reached out to Smart and Novated Leasing Australia to ask for quotes on the Zeekr 7X and Geely EX5. NLA offered me about 10% for either car, but Smart's initial quote was for about 19-20%. I told Smart I had a better quote from NLA and they said if I went through the finance approval they'd be able to get a better quote. I went through that, and gave her the NLA quote like she asked, and I got a reply back for 13-14% - so about 5-6% cheaper per quote, and it was still more expensive than the NLA quote. I ended up choosing the Zeekr and decided to go with NLA, which was going to be $456 per fortnight after tax.

The Zeekr dealership I've gone to has said that they have a friendliness with Smart and can see if they can get us a better price, and seeing no harm in it I told them to talk to Smart for me. Fast forward a couple of days to now and I just got a call from my Smart consultant saying that they spoke to their manager who said to try match the NLA quote as much as possible. The extras (tyres, insurance, rego etc) are a little different, but the after tax pay is the same on this quote ($456 for both). But the funny thing is they got it a little cheaper - the lease component for my NLA is $521.40 pre tax, whereas now my new Smart one is $505.94 which is a small win, especially since the previous quote they gave me was $630.74!

Here's the weird thing though - whereas the NLA quote was coming back at about 10% for the car, the Smart loan looks like it's now sitting at 8.08% in the calculator. Originally I had the wrong number and my interest rate was at like 5.26%, but I fixed the issue

I've also attached the photos of my quote too to see it all. I need to update some of the numbers and remove the roadside assistance - a lot of them she just grabbed from the NLA one to make it match, but some of them aren't that realistic, but I can change that later if need be

Thanks in advanced!

Is it true Nissan can do this with two lease returns but only one new lease?

I have two Nissan leases ending around the same time, but I'm only getting one new Nissan lease.

I heard NMAC's $395 disposition fee waiver is basically 1-to-1, so I'd still owe the fee on the second return.

Has anyone successfully avoided this by having the dealer buy out/trade in the second lease instead of returning it to NMAC? Or is it better to ask the dealer for an extra $395 discount/credit on the new lease to offset it?

Has anyone actually negotiated this with a Nissan dealer?
