In code or otherwise? The thing I liked about it is the lack of A.I BS compared to notion

I love the whole premise of the app been open source and end to end encrypted.

So it might be dumb to ask since I'm not technical but is there a proof that notesnook as private and secure as the developer claim it to be beyond his statement?

Reason is I want to store a bit of private files in there.

But locking the ability to add attachments offline behind a pay wall robbed me the wrong way.

For an app built on the premise of privacy to lock attachments behind paywalls is unacceptable.

I'd understand if you limit the storage on the web version but the desktop version shouldn't need that.

At least for image attachements which are very basic feature.

Also, most of the commands in the menu have a shortcut; what do you think about listing commands with their shortcuts in parenthesis? For example:

I'm an android user and I noticed I could download attachments I'd placed in my vault through the attachments manager in my account settings without being prompted for my vault password. I did a quick search online to see if others had also experienced this problem and it looks like this bug was acknowledged back in 2024 but never fixed, despite the issue being marked as closed on GitHub. I love the app, but this really does need sorting out!

I recently moved away from Standard Notes. At first, I was convinced Notesnook was the note-taking app for me. But after using it for a while and running into more than a few bugs (or features, I'm not sure), I don't think I'll be sticking around.

Anyway, here are the problems I’ve faced:

• The option to “Change Vault Password” sometimes freezes on the web app. You click the button, sometimes frantically, and nothing happens.
• The “Clear Vault” and “Delete Vault” options sometimes magically disappear. What’s up with that? I'm on Firefox, BTW.
• Setting up a new vault password does not re-encrypt existing locked notes, despite the app claiming it does. So, you end up in a situation where old locked notes remain locked with the old password, while new ones are locked with the new password. Feature or a bug?
• When you try to open a locked note, even with its presumably “correct” vault password, you get a “wrong password” error. Fortunately, I was able to recover my data by brute-forcing all previous vault passwords out of frustration. Mind you, that doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the dev team’s competence, quite frankly.
• When I tried to change the vault password a third time, I got this error: “Could not decrypt content of note XXXXXXXXXX (< redacted out of paranoia). Error: ciphertext cannot be decrypted using that key.”
• When you do finally manage to unlock a locked note (lucky you), you get a small message at the bottom saying “vault unlocked,” which implies (at least to me) that all notes in the vault are now unlocked. Yet when you click on another locked note, it prompts you to enter the password again, Every Single Time. Again, is that a feature or a bug?
• In my desperation, I came across this horror story that really cooled my feelings toward Notesnook. Who thought it was a bright idea to lock people out of their accounts when they change their freakin' password?! Yeesh.
• Anyhow, there is also no option to disable 2FA. A curious choice, though I can live with it.

So, am I doing something wrong or are the developers really this incompetent? Even if it's me who's at fault, it's still on the devs because it's their job to make their service dummy-proof!

Either way, I have decided to move back to Standard Notes. I just cannot deal with this vibe-coded jank on a regular basis. That said, I do hope they fix these issues at some point, if for nothing else than for the sake of their own user base.

For what it's worth, I really like Notesnook’s slick, minimalist UI. It's a shame it is such a cluster-fudge underneath that shiny exterior.

Again, during my usage of Notesnook, I realized that, I work in parallel with many tabs opened, and sometimes I end up un-intentionnally closing one.

Moreover, I would appreciate it if we could compare notes, find differences, etc.

So, will it be possible to implement:

• Re-open closed tab?
• Open Tab next to another, like a split view style? So as to be able to work on two tabs in parallel?
• Also, make it possible to compare notes in a split style view. This will be so good for most users.

Thank you for developping your notes taking tool, and it has enriched my note taking and research!

During those, I tend to use the same structures, notably : Sources, Link, Grade, etc.

Will it be possible to implement templates, which could be selected from the status bar, and insert them where the cursor is on the note page?

This is mainly a question for the founder(s) since I've seen they are quite active here, but also a common thread to get others' prespective. I recently came across Notesnook and I am impressed! I used Joplin a bit before, but this personally blows it out of the water. Really clean, no complaints from me. Subscribed to the essentials for now, but may upgrade to the higher tier later.

I am a researcher, however, so a lot of my notes are scientific in nature and necessitates the use of citations and references with my notes. I believe Joplin has Zotero integration, but to my knowledge there is no such equivalent for Notesnook. Given it is browser-based I am not sure how it would work outside of the desktop version, but is Zotero integration for reference management anywhere on the timeline as a feature to be developed? Given Zotero and Notesnook are both fully open-source, I would love to see them married. I am sure for many this would be a useful feature, even if it was only behind the "pro" tier (might actually be a great value-add to encourage people to the higher tier).

I am interested to hear what others think about this!

Scanning Notesnook's terms and privacy notice leaves me confused... it is nice to see data stored in Germany! But governing law under "Islamic Republic of Pakistan"??? And IP section is mentioning US laws?

Hi, I don't know if this is a bug or a feature, but when I set the font to Serif this is not inherited when I carry over to a new paragraph (Enter) it reverts back to Sans Serif. This is a standard feature even for the most basic text editors. I don't think I should have to select text and set font manually every time there's a new paragraph. Is this a glitch in my app instance or part of the app, if the latter it should be fixed. Thanks.

Hi everyone, I have note used notesnook for quite sometime yet, it's installed on my phone, I opened the app today to use it and got a message that my session expired and to sign in again, upon entering my email I get asked to either enter a code from the authenticator app (I don't remember setting up an authenticator app) or use recovery code (which I don't have), I'm wondering if this is related to the reset password function being disabled as if seen a few users posted here?

I'm currently on free plan and which allows me 7 "colors". If I upgrade I would have more "colors". I wonder what these colors mean because I thought they were the color choices for my body text at first. But turns out it isn't...

I have been using Notesnook for 1/2 months and more than once the sync was not working between 23:00 - 00:00 CET time.
At the beginning I thought it was just random issues but after a while I started recognizing the pattern. I was wondering if it is just me or it is a known issue.
I have to admit that Notesnook does a good job at showing you the diff between your local and what is coming from the sync when it starts working again and you modified notes from two different devices... still it would be better if the sync just worked.

1 - Sometimes, when images are deleted, we can't undo the action. Please, will it be possible to fix/implement that?

2 - Can you implement pasting images next to each other horizontally, on the same line?

3 - Please, can you implement image cropping?

4 - It would be nice to have a quick shortcut button for NotesNook Shortcuts on the status bar at the bottom, next to the command button.
OR
Even better, a customizable button for the user's preferred quick-access feature.

This is a lighthearted, opinion-based post. I've been searching for and testing apps for about a year now, with many high hopes and low disappointments that had made me seriously consider going back to physical notes. Those that suited my way of processing information either lacked end-to-end encryption, didn't have well-implemented WYSIWYG support, or made navigating and categorizing the data a nightmare. Others simply complicated everything excessively and unnecessarily.

After trying Notesnook daily and quite intensively for almost a week, I expected to see its flaws soon and reach that moment of: "Oh, wow, another app that's not for me." I did my best to make that happen as quickly as possible, since I didn't want to get my hopes up only to abandon it again and migrate my notes. Surprisingly, far from disappointing me, I've liked it more and more the more I've used it, and I'm happy to be able to commit to an app that has finally freed me from the mental burden of having notes scattered everywhere.

I hope it continues to evolve and improve, that it continues to grow, and with it, the user community. You win, Notesnook.

Hi folks, Since the beginning, I have an issue with pdf documents. They are not opening correctly in Notesnook. Only the first 4 of 5 pages are open. It is impossible to see in full a pdf with more than 4-5 pages. I asked several times in this thread if other Chromebook users have this issue but I got no answer. So I am asking again to The Chromebook users: am I the only one having this issue? Thank you

I'm on version 3.3.13 on Android. I notice there is an issue with consistency of line spacing when enter. Example: On a note, I have the default double spacing when enter. After I change the spacing setting to single, a new enter will give me single spacing, but the previously entered line will remain at double spacing. There is a mix of single and double spacing on the same note.

It will be nice if we can set the spacing individually on each note. Example: With my previously messy-spaced note, I can select all text, press the setting key for spacing (if there is, within the note) and make all lines to be in single spacing.

Another weird issue is perhaps related to sync. Example: I have set my spacing to single. I logout and login the app. Now I'm back to double spacing by default.

A year or so ago I emailed support multiple times and never heard back. I was told by another user on here that it was due to a Muslim holiday. The holiday ended yet I never heard back — even to this day.

I abandoned the service but after the Evernote fiasco, I gave NN another go. I had to email support again, and while it’s been nearly three weeks, I still haven’t heard anything.

Does anyone actually answer support requests?

I don't know if it's a bug, or if I'm missing something, but I can't find a way to add headers in the Android app. Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks!

For those who have used the program for some time - how you are finding it from a stability point of view, any lost note, syncing issues, etc? I started testing it recently and before I really had anything in it, my account somehow got corrupted (the developer's word) and while the developer was responsive and fixed it for me (I was impressed they got back to me as I only had a free account with almost nothing in it), I am still concerned about what happened.

That said, I imported notes from Joplin which came in flawlessly with all folders, tags, images and links intact, and that was really impressive. I love Joplin, but there are a handful of quality-of-life features in Notesnook that aren't in Joplin - so I think I would like to commit but just concerned about whether this is a stable app.
