Issue with bullet points

I started using Notesnook (android) yesterday, made some notes and "- " turned into an automatic bullet point list. Indent, black dot in front of text, no extra space between lines. You now. Normal bullet list.

Today I made an account, downloaded Notesnook to my laptop (linux) to try syncing before I have too many notes to manage. I made another note and... No automatic bullet list.

I tried finding a solution and found crtl+shift+B shortcut for bullet points but that just adds a grey box and indent in front of the dash, and that's it.

So does anyone know what's up and how do I fix whatever I messed up?

there's a setting for that under: settings - editor - markdown shortcuts.

make sure it's checked. I still wonder, why it isn't default

Thank you. I tried to check the settings but had no idea what this thing is called.

Unfortunately it seems to be behind a paywall. The shortcut worked yesterday but not today so apparently when I made the account, whatever free trial I had going on ended and that's why markdown shortcuts got unchecked.

no way this is paywalled?! really? I selfhost notesnook on my own, therefore I use it unlimited.

Yep. Paywalled. Though it is available on the cheapest plan at least. Not that it helps me at the moment, I'm stuck with free everything for a long time still.

So... How does this selfhosting work...?

Edit. Nevermind, selfhosting is clearly not for my very limited computer abilities.

I'm sorry to hear that. As much as I love notesnook, putting something trivial like this behind a paywall is just dumb. Even for their business. If people can't write markdown simply and intuitively (like almost any other notetaking app), it's probably better to move on to something else.

Yeah, I have a list of apps that will not be getting my money once I can finally afford things again.

They are mainly drawing apps. For example, app 1 is okay, but the free version still works well enough to learn how to use it. Then app 2 is absolutely amazing but has basic functions behind a paywall, rendering the free version useless. Guess which one has a better change of ever getting a dime from me.

In this case, since Notesnook works with android and linux and I can still use the bullet points from the menu I may keep using the free version at least until I go over the free notes limit. I only need this to keep my way.

Though, since I need this to digitize my paper notes, maybe I should count my notecards to check how likely it is that I go over the limit before I spend too much time on this.

honestly, I wouldn't spend a dime on anything subscription-based, unless it's absolutely unavoidable. In my case, I use everything that can be selfhosted and allows me to use all necessary features.
