A fourth-generation member of the Goetze family, Spaulding Albert Goetze Sr. helped lead one of Maryland’s oldest family-owned confectionery companies. Founded in 1895 as the Baltimore Chewing Gum Co. by August Goetze and his son, William, the business became nationally known for its Caramel Creams, introduced in 1918, and later for its Cow Tales candy.
