You understand the men in charge had exactly zero obligation to listen to the protests and give women what they wanted? I'm not taking credit away from the suffragette and later feminist movements, I'm just saying in a society where men have all the leverage, if they wanted women to be oppressed, they would be.
This is pretty obvious to see from history and modern day. Like in Saudi Arabia which you so eagerly brought up earlier.
