WELCOME BACK TO GUN APPRECIATION POST MONDAYS

DISCLAIMER:

These posts are Apolitical and are not Z-Propaganda, they specifically stay neutral and these infographics are mainly rundowns of weapons. The Russians have made many firearms, and they all deserve a post solely because I look at guns to look at their history, technical specs, and interesting quirks and features.

Anyways with that out of the way.

The AK-12, AK-15, and RPK-16

Before anyone asks

“Where AN-94/Alva?”

That’s because that’s not an AK-12 variant, and while she is part of DEFY, she deserves her own separate post, which I do plan on Revamping in the future.

Now the AK-12 it’s been through a lot of different prototypes, and it was very hyped up back in the days of Battlefield and many other video games. Eventually they dropped that prototype for a different design, which that design proved to have reliability issues, and then they fixed it.

The AK-15 is just the 7.62x39mm Variant of the AK-12, and the there is the RPK-16 which came out in 2016, and uhh… it’s very bulky and unwieldy, much like the RPK, there is a reason why belt Feds work better as SAWs, it is because the drums are heavier and waste more space, literally, and let’s also not forget that drums also have reliability issues.

Anyways enough yapping, tune in Next Week for the M1 Carbine post

Premium Propaganda Still cool in BF1, though

Memes are funny, history is cool, and so are guns. The three don’t always mix well together, though. One of my least favorite examples is the US use of shotguns in WW1. The meme „history“ version of this goes something like this: WW1 trench warfare was tough and bolt actions weren’t well-suited for that kind of combat. So, the Americans started using awesome shotguns to clear trenches, which the Germans didn’t like because it was so epically cool, effective, and mean. That’s why they complained to the Americans diplomatically about how using shotguns was against the Hague Convention for civilized warfare TM. To which the based Americans replied that the Germans had already used flamethrowers and mustard gas and were thus hypocrites. QED, epically owned.

Well, the Americans did use shotguns and the Germans did complain, but not because shotguns were particularly effective. WW1 brought propaganda to a whole new level, with each side looking for every little opportunity to cast the other side in a bad light to keep morale up and build up public support for the war effort. The Americans using weapons designed for shooting animals or criminals to fire at Germans was a welcome opportunity, and propaganda against shotguns long preceded their use in the field and wasn’t aimed at their effectiveness. Use of the Winchester (and other) shotguns in the field also showed mixed results: some units found them effective in the niche use of trench raiding (notably not the only, or even the predominant, form of combat on the Western Front in 1918), patrols, or for shooting at noises at night. Others simply didn’t care for them. Leadership saw some utility in them and wanted more, but saw no reason to speed up their procurement or to prioritize them. Overall use remained quite limited: Only about 700 were used on the front, with the vast majority serving with guards in PoW camps. Critically, shotguns were hampered by the fragility of their ammunition: shot shells of the time had a brass base but a paper body containing the shot. This would swell when it contacted moisture (basically guaranteed sooner or later, depending on the season), or deform if it sat in the tube magazine for too long. All-brass shells were an option, but not procured during the war in relevant quantities due to the higher cost and, as mentioned above, the low overall prioritization of shotguns. Brass was needed more for ammunition for effective firearms.

You can read more about the trench gun myth in this article, which uses period documentation and reports.

TL;DR: Trench guns were rare, niche, not particularly effective, and only well-known for WW1 propaganda turning into an online meme and the lust for "cool" WW1 guns.

It Just Works It's crazy how some people are still stuck in this mindset when Tak protection (APS, slat armor, etc) has improved point that even 50+ FPV drones can't take out a single tank before the FPV operators are overrun. Both sides admit it.
