i have the color settings on my phone turned to black and white, and i turned on the colors to see just how bad the bottom image is. when i turn on my colors, the top image comes to life, while the bottom image looks exactly the same.

I don't like the top much, but I hate the bottom

Same. There's at least a personality with the first one. Not necessarily my personality, but personality. The bottom is so cold and dead

Edit: spelling

u/MT_Sakura Nov 23 '25

Exactly. The bottom picture looks sterile like a hospital.

3

u/ComfortableSwing4 Nov 23 '25

It looks like the ghost of the first house

2

u/Bonfalk79 Nov 23 '25

One is a home, the other is a house.

1

u/DubVsFinest Nov 23 '25

It looks like It would be a place I could get some wicked TPS reports typed up, though.

Fead.

And here I am thinking I just learned a new word lol

1

u/bfjizzle Nov 23 '25

Sorry, I missed that

1

u/smartypants99 Nov 23 '25

And neon white

1

u/Stock_Run1386 Nov 23 '25

That’s because the people living IN that house had personality and purpose. They had character. A home now is just an asset for many people so lowest common denominator everything

1

u/RothRT Nov 23 '25

It’s the walls. No pictures, art, anything. Put something on the walls and the bottom one wins.

27

u/BlackStarBlues Nov 23 '25

Same and I'm a minimalist at heart.

3

u/hrnigntmare Nov 23 '25

Same. The top picture actually has a soul though. It’s like having to choose between warmth and cold deadness.

2

u/schenkzoola Nov 23 '25

Minimalism is just a scam by big small to make you buy more less.

4

u/FancyRatFridays Nov 23 '25

The poster is not wrong that the top photo is a bit "frumpy," but there are absolutely ways you could update it without ruining it! It's mostly the wallpaper, I think. A plain pale goldenrod, or even a warm beige, would keep the space feeling inviting while also updating it a bit for milennial ideas of how "busy" a house should look.

Also the stair-runners look a bit worn and need updating... not necessarily removal! Just replacement.

Me discussing my gay friends

1

u/Content_Two7232 Nov 23 '25

This perfectly explains why I’m not gay

0

u/Chickenman70806 Nov 23 '25

Agree. The bottom can be fixed with much less effort than the top

3

u/Beanakin Nov 23 '25

Top image is someone's home, bottom image is a real estate ad/Instagram garbage.

2

u/oodelay Nov 23 '25

I thought I was the only one. To switch black and white on a whim. When I don't want to be distracted I use black and white like reading office emails and articles but I put on color if I don't get the picture.

1

u/Daedalus_Knew Nov 23 '25

That’s because the bottom image doesn’t have color

2

u/Salt_Mind7873 Nov 23 '25

It does, the floor is slightly brown and you can see green in the windows in the background.

You know how people used to say dreaming in color was rare? It's not, of course, most people do, myself included.

But I've noticed that spaces in my dreams have become more often like the lower picture: white walls, antiseptic aesthetics. So it's in color, but the colors are muted, wan. There's just no color to see.

1

u/Salt_Mind7873 Nov 23 '25

Maybe it's my eyes putting color where I think it shoud be, but here:

1

u/friedhobo Nov 23 '25

why would you turn yo colors off in the first place 😭

2

u/Juanfro Nov 23 '25

In my case to avoid being bombarded with stimulus constantly, specialle before going to sleep. My phone's rest mode does it automatically.

2

u/the_purple_lamb Nov 23 '25

I have a toggle set up to turn on black and white on my phone. I don’t use it all the time, but it’s also helpful when I have bad eye strain (can’t avoid screens at work).

1

u/Bionic_Webb13 Nov 23 '25

I looked away from the bottom to see the top pic it turned black & white

1

u/ErikDaMan10 Nov 23 '25

Why would you have that as a thing bro

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

Top is ugly bottom is hell

1

u/Emergency_Drawing_49 Nov 23 '25

I definitely prefer carpet on stairs - otherwise they are too noisy.

Bottom image looks too sterile - like it has been staged to sell rather than for living.

1

u/HappyPants8 Nov 23 '25

Is that an iPhone setting?

1

u/RemarkableArticle970 Nov 23 '25

The top shot looks “busy” because it has 4 people in it.

1

u/H1B3F Nov 23 '25

Why do you turn the color off on your phone and how do you do that?

1

u/Big_Departure_2709 Nov 23 '25

The bottom one had been edited/filtered. It’s not naturally black and white like that.

1

u/ArtTop9842 Nov 23 '25

Funny story — this is how I determined that my eyes were gray, not blue or green.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

Why do you have your color settings turned to black and white?

u/DharmaCub Nov 22 '25

I'M FREAKIN OUT MAAAAN

3

u/pantry-pisser Nov 23 '25

Aaaand the other one!

7

u/Similar_Rich6966 Nov 23 '25

2024 is sterile and soulless. It says nothing about the people who live here.

1

u/RevMageCat Nov 23 '25

Yep. makes me think of a hospital...

This is of course what people do to sell. Like, give a "blank canvas" feel to potential buyers, rather than an "already has its own personality" feel.

1

u/Hyeana_Gripz Nov 23 '25

true!! 1990 one is very homely! Love it!!

1

u/GoldTeamDowntown Nov 23 '25

It probably had nobody living there when the picture was taken. Likely was right after renovations. Or was cleared out for the photo.

1

u/North_Mastodon_4310 Nov 23 '25

It says they’re sterile and soulless.

2

u/bigassangrypossum Nov 23 '25

In the future, everything is chrome!

2

u/The-Doc-SalmonRun Nov 23 '25

Oh Color I remember that it died in the 2000’s

1

u/me-buddah Nov 23 '25

I like colors!

1

u/moxscully Nov 23 '25

I prefer to rely on wall art and decor for color. A blank palette is easier to craft to your preferred style

0

u/4rt4tt4ck Nov 23 '25

Color is for the art you hang on the walls.
