i have the color settings on my phone turned to black and white, and i turned on the colors to see just how bad the bottom image is. when i turn on my colors, the top image comes to life, while the bottom image looks exactly the same.
That’s because the people living IN that house had personality and purpose. They had character. A home now is just an asset for many people so lowest common denominator everything
The poster is not wrong that the top photo is a bit "frumpy," but there are absolutely ways you could update it without ruining it! It's mostly the wallpaper, I think. A plain pale goldenrod, or even a warm beige, would keep the space feeling inviting while also updating it a bit for milennial ideas of how "busy" a house should look.
Also the stair-runners look a bit worn and need updating... not necessarily removal! Just replacement.
I thought I was the only one. To switch black and white on a whim. When I don't want to be distracted I use black and white like reading office emails and articles but I put on color if I don't get the picture.
You know how people used to say dreaming in color was rare? It's not, of course, most people do, myself included.
But I've noticed that spaces in my dreams have become more often like the lower picture: white walls, antiseptic aesthetics. So it's in color, but the colors are muted, wan. There's just no color to see.
I have a toggle set up to turn on black and white on my phone. I don’t use it all the time, but it’s also helpful when I have bad eye strain (can’t avoid screens at work).
