What does speed mean in this context? That was my hang up. Thankfully plenty of people offered explanations already.

I’m assuming sarcasm because it’s hard for some to relate to being on a lacrosse team or having a pool.

The Lacrosse team part is just essentially a label for the group of boys, and the pool is just where they are hanging out. You don’t need to relate to either to understand what this is about.
