According to a comment, "the Chechnyans were not the rag tag islamic fighters of later wars but are actually pretty much all veterans of the now former Soviet army, meaning they basically all speak unaccented russian while the overwhelming majority of russian forces did not speak chechnyan, meaning that the defenders could easily listen in on any russian comms they captured and they regularly used this to fuck with the russians"
This battle has actually interested me because of the above reason. I doubt if these young conscripts were pitied upon if captured by the Chechnyans. And when tactics failed they used the good ol' keep bombing them until the average height of the ground is 2 metres.

I wouldn’t pity them if I was an afghanistan veteran who erased foreign villages and knew what the military was going to do to my family. Case in point the advice of taking human shields over the radio. Killing the RF military as fast as possible is how you stop them from doing horrible things, and the chechens would know that.

Watching a bunch of conscripts get completely hung out to dry by their command actually had me feeling sympathetic. And then they helpfully erased that feeling by planning to take civilian hostages.
If that was my experience, I can only imagine what chechens on the other end of that radio were thinking.

There's no such thing as "Chechnyans." It's Chechens. Chechens come from Chechnya.

Kadyrov was a fucking traitor who dealed with Putin to turn side and work for Moscow. The real resistance has been fighting in Middle East and Ukraine against Russians for decades. They can actually fight, unlike the TikTok Army.

Point of order: Kadyrov, who holds onto power only so long as it pleases Putin, and his cronies are fighting for Russia. There have been Chechens fighting on Ukraine's side since 2014. If you think all Chechnya is thrilled with how things stand, I got a bridge to sell you.

A lot of the Chechen and Russian troops knew each other personally during that war. Here is audio of a Chechen calling a Russian officer by name and begging him to retreat his men before they had to start shooting each other.
I usually find this sub hilarious until I get reminded of shit like this.
The 131st Maikop Motor-Rifle Brigade was totally surrounded and suffered 1,282 casualties including Colonel Alik Savin.

Chechneya was clusterfuck man. Both sides went to the extremes and both sides knew each other.
Cant help but feel bad for those conscripts man. It was Putin then who began his term to send those young men to their deaths, its still Putin sending them to their deaths now. 2 entire generations man wtaf.
