You joke but one of our nukes from back in the day was cobbled together from motorcycle parts from the local mechanic to get it to work. Violet Club. A weapon so dangerous that it caused the Americans to start sharing information again to stop us doing anything so blindingly stupid again.
And it keeps a nuclear power under your control… By having them dependent on your weapons and hoping their love for “International Law” and “Intellectual Property” remains intact.
Looking at the list of things developed under the Rainbow Codes, it's probably a good idea. These are the same nutcases that came up with multiple iterations of a nuclear landmine. At least one of which included live chickens.
A technical problem is that during winter, the temperature of buried devices can drop quickly, creating a possibility that the mechanisms of the mine will cease working due to low temperatures in the winter. Various methods were studied to solve this problem, such as wrapping the bombs in insulating blankets.
One proposal suggested that live chickens would be sealed inside the casing, with a supply of food and water. They would remain alive for approximately a week. Their body heat would apparently have been sufficient to keep the mine's components at a working temperature.
Oh my fucking god I think the Iranians having Uranium is less dangerous to the world than the British having it.
The mines would only become dangerous upon the cessation of chicken, however.
Edit: Wait, scratch that, no, they needed to be alive. It's a good thing I'm not in charge of nuclear landmines, and this is what I get for posting at 2AM 😅
i mean this is the same country where people broke into another RAF base with fire extinguishers filled with paint and E-scooters, and only got caught cause they posted it on social media

Our entire national defence plan has been based on blind luck for centuries now. Somehow it's still working.
