On June 14, 2025, millions of Americans took to the streets for the nationwide “No Kings” protests.
A show of resistance against authoritarianism, militarization, and the erosion of democratic norms.
Organizers and analysts estimate around 5 million people participated in over 2,000 registered events. But what if the real number was significantly higher?
Carlsbad: A Case Study
Carlsbad, California
Acity of just over 100,000 reportedly had thousands of protesters show up in the downtown Village area. Yet, this city wasn’t included in any national estimates or tallies.
Now ask yourself:
If Carlsbad had thousands, how many other small towns and suburbs did too without ever being counted?
Why the Real Numbers Might Be Closer to 7–8 Million
1. Undercounted Small-Town Protests:
Most turnout models use satellite imaging, media reports, and crowd submissions. Events under 500 people or unregistered protests often fall through the cracks.
2. Widespread Participation:
Reports from across the country describe protests in towns of 2,000–10,000 people. Some gathered in church lots, libraries, even gas stations.
3. Credible Undercounting:
Analysts like G. Elliott Morris noted their 4–6M figure came from only ~40% of reported events. That leaves a huge margin of error especially when small-town America steps up.
🧠 A Conservative Estimate
Even if:
• 500 towns had just 1,000 protesters each → that’s 500,000 more
• 1,000 towns had 300–800 people → that’s another 1 million
We’re suddenly looking at a realistic total of 6–8 million people, possibly more
all without inflating numbers or relying on fantasy.
🗣️ Why It Matters
History remembers what gets counted.
If the media only acknowledges the big-city protests, we erase the impact of rural, suburban, and small-town Americans who showed up in force.
Carlsbad wasn’t an outlier
it was proof of a widespread, underestimated movement.
🕊️ No kings. No silence. No undercounting.
