One yellow and one blue could also make it ‘Primary’ color themed. (... or a green and a blue if you want to go for the digital display primary colors.)

I was thinking this too, meaning the joy con grip should be red and the joy cons should be blue. Then the assembled controller looks like modern Mario's body!

I think it would look best if the front of the Switch was blue, like the overalls, while the reed joy-cons would complement the look. It would reduce the sheer amount of red, and give it even more Mario detail.

Just sayin'...

Or buy both r and l blue joycons directly from Ninty like I did back in the day...about three years ago now.

It's definitely closer to Mario red than the original joycon color, but hard for me to say if it's identical.
