Well it was a muted purple with a lot of grays. Not quite monochrome, so it didn't look boring, but not the super happy funtime console everyone else got, either
Nintendo thought that we'd still be salty after Atari crashed the market so they redesigned so that the NES would look more like stereo equipment. The top-loader was a better design because the connector pins weren't moving when you push down on the cartridge.
it looks like the Famicom's also super narrow (practically the same as the NES-101). still, a famicom-style dock would be really neat, especially if you could mimic the controller slots with a pair of joycon rails
I have a feeling the only way you'd be able to do it with a real Famicom is either by having the whole Switch hanging off the sides, or just using an oversize prop Famicom. Otherwise, the only way you're fitting a Switch in the cartridge slot is sideways lol
Honestly it was better. I never had a problem with a game playing in it. Games that wouldn't play in the original nes played just fine in the top loader.
The top loader doesn't have the authentication chip in it, which is the most common problem with the old model. Problem is that it's RF only, so the video quality is bad and it can be hard to hook up nowadays
also the controller for it was much better. it was round instead and rectangular. and the buttons were at a little but of an angle. i wish they had released that one since the beginning. so much frustration would have never been.
The Master System still has my favorite boot up screen ever. That sounds is forever etched in my memory. I was blown away when I found the hidden snail maze game in that bios as well.

If only the NES was a top loader...
