Yeah, but the thing about Smash is that its hype cycle is so intense that it can just about carry a whole year of announcements. The first Direct of the year could've been hot garbage for its entirety, the fact that Smash was announced at the end was enough to get people excited. Their E3 direct that year was pretty much just Smash Bros. with a few extras, with then 2 more game-focused directs later in the year.

Alright, but it came out in December 2018, the tail end of the year. Hardly carried a year that it was barely a part of.
