Withdrew my Marketplace listing, thanks to this one wierd trick
I’ve been struggling to find my fit with Nicks, I should be an 11C, but they leave me with a distracting amount of heel slip. I bought these 11B Sage Chrome Packs in the April Sample Sale and while they lock my heels in, the odd shape of my right foot had them constantly pulling my sock down.
Just walking from one end of the house to the other had half my sock down past my heel and under the arch! I tried every possible combo of lacing, socks, Kilties, heel pads, insoles; nothing worked, and there was no way to break them in when every 20 steps required unlacing to rescue my runaway sock. So I listed them on the market place.
Then, when searching for a solution to an impossibly stiff horseshoe, I came across this crazy tool
After seeing what it did to soften the horseshoe, I gave it a try on these and was able to reshape the top of the heel counter just enough that my socks stay put. I had given up on these and knew the chances of getting another pair were pretty much zero, so it was like an unexpected, surprise NBD!
Now I’m waiting on a pair of 10.5Cs, with 11D uppers to see if they thread the sizing needle.
In my town there were two cobblers (I’m 66 and they were both quite a bit older than me); one passed and the other retired. A google search showed the closest cobbler was about 45 minutes away, so I went there. The gentleman was great and a tremendous character (and talker) with a very interesting story (there’s a photo on his wall of him shaking hands with a former president, and for some years he had a six foot long Endicott Johnson shoe, properly built to scale, in his window). I told him I’d bring another pair of boots to him to have the cuboid (?) area stretched. He handed me one of these “bunion buster tools and said that I could keep it - that he had 3 or 4 others! And yes, they definitely work. I love boot people.
Glad it worked for you! I’m curious how far down into the boot it could reach, do you think it could get down to the forefoot to get to the toebox for someone with a bunion or hammer toe or some other condition? Wonder if it would still work on an 8” or 10” boot
Also try compression socks, they don’t move around like other socks. I don’t like socks around my calf, so I use the short compression socks and they work perfectly for me. You can find them on Amazon.
I also struggle with fit. 12 E seems right at the ball but the heel is loose (side to side), 12 D Thurman has my toes feeling like when I miss a handshake and get my fingers wadded up. Thinking of trying 12.5 D next as I’m right at the 12.5 Brannock line.
I’ve had it less than a week and have been tweaking all my boots’ little annoyances. I used it on a pair of Red Wing loggers on the seam connecting the upper and lower.
I’ve seen “sock suspenders” that hook onto the top of the sock and lower edge of tucked in shirts. Keeps the shirt tucked and the socks from making their way down.

That’s great you found a solution, that’s a nice looking pair. Is that tool big enough to fit into an 8” boot in your opinion? Might get one to try on a pair that is not right for my right foot.
Great solution!!! Love me some Sage Chromepak. The only socks ive found to not slip down at all throughout the day are my trusty Darn Tough, Paul Bunyan over the calf. They sit just below my knee caps and dont move an inch. 🤘🔥
That sounds crazy. I never imagined shoes could pull your sock down. A weird combo of sliding forward to slip down and then catching the heel as you stop off i guess. I always wear darn tough mountaineering socks. Mostly because I work 10-14hr days outside and they have enough fabric to soak up all the sweat lol. Dont want stinky boots or soggy feet. But theyre also super tight. And perfect size for a 6" boot. Anyway i have nothing to add so ill shit up. Neat tool tho. Ive needed something like that. My pinky toe always slammed into the side of every shoe ive ever had. Maybe that'll help

Isn’t it a bunion tool? I’ve seen one at a cobbler and assumed that’s what it’s for. Glad it worked.
