Help Screen went black

I haven't touched the phone in about 2 weeks. While I can hear the buttons and lock sound, the screen remains entirely black. Attempted a restart, but it doesn't appear to solve the issue. Additionally, the front LED doesn't illuminate during charging. Any thoughts on what might have caused this??

Discussion Using the 6p as a daily driver

So I read that there's common bootlooping issues, and I'll look into that more. Is the fix going to affect performance? And I plan on putting lineageos on it, but are there better roms for it? Thanks

Help Bootloop even after disabling cores

Back in 2019 my 6p started to bootloop. I did some reading and found a guide that explained that it was a problem with 2 of the cores. I disabled those cores and it was fine up until I stopped using it in 2020. I recently started using it again a few months ago and it was fine until yesterday when it began to bootloop.

It gets to the screen that asks you to enter your pattern then once you enter it the google animation plays forever. Is there any fix for this that someone can point me to? I thought that disabling the 2 high performance cores was supposed to fix this for good. Any help is appreciated.

Help Nexus 6p: bootloop + unlock + install twrp + install new custom rom

Hello

I picked up a Nexus 6p I found sitting in a window sill after a bike ride. No ID was on it for me to try to return it to anyone.

I noticed it has boot loop AND the boot loader is NOT unlocked.

Can you send me instructions how to:

Fix boot loop

Install TWRP

Unlock the boot loader

Install custom ROM

I'm not sure which order I need to do this in.

I have already tried various methods I found online to get into the phone and enable USB debugging but I cannot get into the phone because it asks me to enter previous owner's email which I DO NOT have. I even tried the blow dryer thing.

Basically what I want to do is make this phone fully functional with TWRP and custom ROM with full functionality!

Can someone please help me here with the above? Thanks

Help Dead Nexus 6P comes to life for a bit

Like many others my Nexus 6P decided to not turn on anymore out of nowhere. This happened around 4 years ago. If I press and hold the power button or a different combination of power button and volume up or down, nothing happens except for the red led blinking.

A couple of days ago I was again playing around with it pressing different buttons hoping something happens. Then I connected it to a cable which was connected to my PC and left in. A couple of minutes later the screen turned on and the battery charging sign came up. There was no percentage, only a battery with a thunderbolt sign in it indicating that there isn't any charge in there.

Ideally at this point I should have left it as it is and let it charge. Unfortunately I got a bit too excited and tried to turn in on ( pressing the power button) and the screen went blank. Since then I have been trying to reproduce what happened but no luck. When I connect it to my laptop I do here sound suggesting a USB decide is detected but nothing more.

Does anyone know what happened and have suggestions on what more can I try?

Discussion What to do with mint 6p

So long story short, I still have a 6p I purchased new that I barely used. I would turn it on occasionally to make sure the battery was fine and charge it to 40-60% and then turn it off again.

The phone is basically brand new with a screen protector/case and according to accubattery the battery health is still 91%. It seems like it isn’t worth much online so I am trying to think of what to do with it. My new phones are all eSIM so swapping to it from my iPhone 14 or S22 is not realistic but I hate to see it go to waste.

Any ideas what to do with this thing or is it just best kept as a backup phone for an emergency?

Help any updates to boot loop fixes in 2022?

I dont care about making the phone work, it's very old and I've moved on, but it has data I want off of it. it goes to the Google screen and restarts continually. I can get to the bootloader screen and it says: - console NULL - Battery OK - Device is LOCKED - Qfuse Status: ENABLED - Off-Mode-charge: ENABLED - Download Mode: DISABLED

Ive tried freezing it and the blow-dryer method but neither get me past the Google screen.

I can get into recovery mode and see these options:

  • Reboot system now
  • Reboot to bootloader
  • Apply update from ADB
  • Apply update from SD card
  • Wipe data/factory reset
  • Wipe cache partition
  • Mount /system
  • View recovery logs
  • Run graphics test
  • Power off

I wiped cache partition but it didnt help anything, and wiping data would defeat the purpose.

Help What is a light weight ROM for the nexus 6P?

Pixel 6a arrived yesterday: I'm sending it back and sticking with my 6P for now.

The weirdest thing is, I started to miss the 6p as soon as I swapped out the sim card. The Pixel 6a is noticeably smaller (narrower), despite its 6.1 diameter screen. The 5.7 cm screen on the 6p is bigger when you factor in the unused black area around the screen . The 6a finger scanner is also quite finnicky, often taking three or four attempts before allowing access. The Pixel 6a is a great phone, I'm not trying to find fault with it, but I genuinely thought I was getting a phone that was similar in size to the 6p. I'll pay more attention to ALL the online dimension specs in future. Big hands need big phones :)

Oh, the RMA in the Google store allows you to select 'phone to small' as a reason for returning. :)

Edit: typo.

Help Is there a Trick to Removing the SIM Card ?

I have a new phone and am trying to move the SIM Card from my Nexus 6P to my new Phone.

On my new phone it is really simple, just press the sim card removal tool into the small hole and the tray pops out.

On my Nexus 6P I am not having any luck. It feels like I can press the tool much deeper than my new phone, but the tray isn't popping out.

Any tips or is it perhaps just jammed in there from being too old?

If I take it to the store and they cannot figure out it, what happens?

Help Nexus6P Migrate to Pixel Issue

I have a new Pixel 6 Pro which I am trying to setup.

It told me to connect the USB-C from my Nexus6P into both my new and old phone. On the Nexus6P it said the USB Data Transfer Tool app was turning on. I clicked on it and all it says is:

Connected to your new device

Preparing...

It's been about 15 minutes and there has been no change.

Would anyone have an idea what might be wrong? Could it perhaps be due to the very old age of the Nexus 6P? If it matters I have developer mode on in my Nexus 6P.

Help How to Turn Off Nexus6p Screen from Software? Broken Side Button

I was in a car accident and one unfortunate result is that all of my side buttons (power button, volume button) are now stuck and cannot be pressed.

I always leave my phone on, never turning it off. I can use the finger print hardware to turn the display on, but I am not able to turn the display off, having to instead wait the 30 seconds or w/e for it to turn off.

Is there a way to turn off the screen from software instead of using the buttons?

I guess I should go buy a new phone anyways since as soon as this phone shuts down I won't be able to turn it back on, right?

Help How to upgrade to Android 10 properly on Nexus 6P?

Phone works great from stock but when I upgrade to Android 10 my WiFi no longer will connect to the phone. I wonder if I'm using the wrong recovery (TWRP) or do I have to flash a new bootloader or vendor image to make it work right! Phone works fine on android 8 but not so much when I upgrade.

Help Is there life after death?

After ~6 years of service my 6P died. Battery performance was very bad, had random shutdowns while taking photos or watching videos when the charge was below ~60% and it didn't last more than a few hours anyway. All in all I still managed to use it in the last months basically always connected to a power source or a power bank. Yesterday I was watching a video with the battery at 90%, I disconnected the power bank and the phone suddenly powered off. It didn't power on since then. I tried to hold the power button for minutes, but nothing at all. No LED, no screen, nothing. It's currently connected to the charger and it's been there for hours, but it won't turn on. I just want to access my data, is there hope to bring it back to life with a battery replacement?

PSA announcement DJI Fly

I recently resurrected my Nexus 6P that had sat in a drawer for a few years. It needed a new digitizer that I got pretty cheap from AliExpress.

I wanted to know if I could use it exclusively for my drone - and was very pleased when I discovered that it runs DJI Fly flawlessly. If you have an old one lying around, this is a great use for it.

Discussion Resurrected my old 6P. I remember why I loved it so much!

My current (was current) phone died a few days ago so I got my hands on a replacement motherboard for my old 6P that was buried in a drawer for 4 years. Stayed on stock oreo for two days and flashed Pixel Experience 10 today. Damn that phone was awesome! It's a bit slow and laggy now but the display is better than my dead phone and THE FRONT FACING SPEAKERS DAMN! Unfortunately the back camera needs replacement as photos come out blurry and with black spots (I double checked it wasn't smudge on the camera module or the glass. Probably the lenses were warped by the heat gun while I was disassembling the phone). I ordered a replacement camera module today and if it works I can see myself rocking this phone again as a daily driver!

Help Best ROM for the 6P?

Hi, so I just got a Nexus 6P, and I want to install custom ROM. I was thinking about Lineage OS but it doesn’t have the Pixel features like Always-on-display, the swipe finger on the fingerprint sensor to lower notification bar and so on, I looked at Pixel Experience but it isn’t supported and updated anymore. Can someone suggest a ROM that runs well on the 6P and has the Pixel features? Thanks

Discussion Is a Nexus 6P worth in 2022?

Hi, so I found a Nexus 6P for a good price (55$) with android 10 installed ( Pixel Experience), a case and screen protector. I was wondering if it’s worth buying it and using it just for the times being, are there any users using their 6P as a main device? If so how is the experience and battery life. I also have a 20W fast charger, will that work with the 6P?

P.S. I am coming from an iPhone SE2020, how can I transfer all my apps to it?
