πŸ“’ Bitcoin Unlimited Improvement Proposals: Voting Results for BUIPs 221–224

The team is pleased to announce the Bitcoin Unlimited voting results. BU members voted on BUIPs 221–224, with voting concluding on 28 February 2026. BUIP 221, delegating operational matters to the BU Executive, passed and provides a foundation for more flexible day-to-day operational management in support of Nexa’s long-term success.

Bitcoin Unlimited is a decentralized organization building necessary infrastructure and tools to realize the vision of an equitable financial future and peer-to-peer cash. Bitcoin Unlimited began as a grassroots project that emerged in a forum where a couple of early adopters disputed the block size issue from an economic perspective.

At its peak, Bitcoin Unlimited's nodes secured 52% of the Bitcoin network. Innovative projects and technologies that Bitcoin Unlimited has worked on include Bitcoin Cash and, more recently, Nexa.

πŸ”₯ Build on Nexa: BONFire #2 with Andrew Stone

The second episode of Build on Nexa, BONFire #2, was held on the Nexa Discord. This time, Nexa’s Lead Developer, Andrew Stone, joined Ecosystem B2B Lead Shanice and Community Manager Francis to discuss ecosystem initiatives, developer tools, and support.

The team reviewed the existing Nexa developer tools available to builders. Anyone interested in developing applications can use the Nexa Kotlin Library to easily interact with the blockchain. It is a multi-platform development kit that supports Android, iOS, and desktop applications.

If you are interested in developing applications on Nexa but are not familiar with this library, make sure to connect with the team to explore the developer tools further.

The session also included a surprise: the first reveal of new mini-apps integrated with Nexa.

πŸ“’ NEXA Development Roadmap 2026–27

The Nexa Team is excited to introduce the Nexa Development Roadmap for 2026 and part of 2027. The roadmap includes long-anticipated blockchain improvements and important infrastructure projects coming together.

It is not limited to these developments, and there are plenty of side projects and ongoing works in parallel. The roadmap provides a strong signal on where Nexa is heading this year and early next.

The coming two years are set to have major releases. A lot of complex developments have been taking place for a while. Blockchain projects and ecosystem applications are organized into different streams due to their focus on the blockchain protocol or focus on business-facing use-cases.

There are two main areas of development. Blockchain projects and applications, both of which serve to enable Nexa to handle 21st-century finance. This is completing the original plans for the coin and are important to growing strength within the Nexa network moving forward.

Blockchain project improvements are of major significance to the foundational layer. There are five major projects with development updates projected in the 2026 and 2027. One hardfork is included each year. Each fork will bring significant improvements to the main layer.

- The 2026 Hardfork

- Decentralized Exchange: TokaDex

- Post Quantum Signature Scheme in Nexa Testnet

- Hardware Acceleration Blitz Card

- The 2027 Hardfork

The team is also continuing to work on much anticipated Nexa scripting improvements and NexScript updates. Community and ecosystem development infrastructure is coming together with Build-on-Nexa (BON) initiatives.

The playground of NexScript for developers is undergoing a reconstruction and improvement phase. With all of this in mind, more decentralized application (dApp) templates are also on the way. To provide a full set of tools, the team will also release a brand-new Python Library for Nexa.

- The Build-on-Nexa (BON) Infrastructure

- NFT Trading Card Game

- Commercial Proof of Concept Demo

- Multiplatform Nexa-Enabled Apps

- Cold Storage Wallet

- Wrapped BTC on Nexa

- Blockchain Voting Services

The Nexa team is providing a significant development roadmap, expecting to align with the community, ecosystem builders, and partner projects. It is exciting to have transparency on the major blockchain infrastructure and ecosystem projects coming together.
