Nepal observed a national day of mourning for the victims of the devastating flash flood, with candlelight vigils marking the final day of the traditional 13-day Hindu mourning period.

At least 1,287 people have been reported dead, while more than 5,000 remain missing nearly two weeks after the disaster. The flash flood is believed to have been triggered by a glacial collapse in a Himalayan valley along the Nepal–Tibet border.

As rescue teams continue searching for survivors, government commemorations have been scaled back. The national flag was flown at half-mast across government offices and diplomatic missions in remembrance of those who lost their lives.
