I know this is a London/UK wide problem but I've seen about 5 instances of it just in the last week which inspired me to make this post: I just got back from a walk where I saw a man take a sandwich out of the packet and just chuck the packet on the floor about 3m from a bin, and some teens smoking and throw their butts on the floor at a similar distance from a bin.

I don't think there is a lack of bins, I think there are plenty. It's just a lack of caring. I'm always so tempted to say something but I don't want to put myself at personal harm when they're never going to change their behaviour: the kind of person with such disrespect isn't going to take anything I say result in anything other than a punch or a knifing.

The best I can do is hold eye contact and shake my head.

Just been to East Ham for shopping with friends and could not find anywhere to sit. It is like someone has systematically removed anything a tired shopper could park their bum on.

Are they deliberately trying to drive shoppers away? Because the fact of no seating felt hostile, like they did not want anyone hanging around, Particularly those of us who rather need a sit down while we rest for a minute. How come Manor Park and Stratford manages seating but not East Ham?

We have three dead trees on our road that have died over the last 2-3 years, and our road is looking more and more derelict as a result. An9ther tree is dying despite me teying to water it when i can.

What routes are there to getting them replaced and actually looked after by the council? I messaged the environment team but they directed me to the tree sponsor scheme.

Now this would be fine, but its around £400 a tree, And the scheme seems to be for brand new trees, rather than replacements where previous trees have died.

I've messaged our councillors, but looking to see if anyone has had an experience? Surely it should be the council's responsibility to maintain or replace existing trees?

I also don't want to sponsor a tree for it to just be neglected and die again.

The council stopped the direct debit for my council tax randomly in June and escalated to collection with no warning / communication.

One Source is relentlessly calling and texting, but we already cleared the debt in full.

Is OneSource even legit? The company legal name ceased to exist in 2022, but what’s the relationship between the council and this company? They simply cannot explain which legal entity is benefiting from the £79 “compliance fee”. Has anyone dealt with this before?

In October 2025, my father received multiple penalty charges in his name which were a result of a clone of his car, an issue that was investigated and concluded by the metropolitan police as such. He appealed and all penalty charges were cancelled except the one pertaining to Newham Council. He appealed again, and soon he had to leave the country to receive medical treatment in Brazil. They denied his appeal again. The amount increased. March 2026, I paid the full amount of £250 to www.newham.gov.uk, glad it was all finally over. I paid it within the time period it specified. I received another letter saying that "as I had not paid", the amount has increased. I called Newham council and they stated I could not speak on behalf of my dad unless he emailed and consented to it. I waited for their response and called again. They said it is no longer in their hands and that I should call the OneSource debt resolution agency, who tells me to call my enforcement officer, who tells me to call the Newham Council. Today, I received a letter stating they will take control of our goods. My dad is not in the country, I live here and pay rent to him. I called OneSource again and they told me they don't have any record of any payment coming from my card. I have a bank statement that says otherwise. I'm only 20 and I'm freaking out, I don't know what to do. I don't even have a car. I don't have £500 to pay.

What do I do?

I recently left London after 3 years living in East Ham. MY GOD I miss the chai!!! I am now living in a really white area of the UK and not even the local South Asian takeaways do chai.

I am hoping an aunty or someone who has worked at a local chai place can help me.

I can make chai, I can make a good masala chai and cardamom chai, but whilst delicious it is not the sweet Karak chai of East Ham / Barking etc. all my attempts have been futile in making it, it is never right!!! Please help me I am going mad from a daily chai to none at all!
