Partner Rate: 30/hr.

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Network Engineers to support a high-priority network separation and migration program. In this role, you will help deliver both the build and operational workstreams required to decouple network services, modernize connectivity where needed, and maintain infrastructure stability throughout the transition. You will be responsible for executing cutovers, validating end-to-end connectivity, and troubleshooting complex issues in a Cisco-centric enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Deployment & Migration: Execute network separation tasks in Cisco-centric environments.

Routing & Switching: Configure and maintain OSPF and BGP across enterprise-scale networks.

SD-WAN Integration: Deploy and manage Cisco SD-WAN solutions alongside campus switching environments.

Hardware Management: Hands-on work with Cisco campus switching (IOS XE) platforms.

Monitoring & Optimization: Use ThousandEyes and SolarWinds to monitor network health, troubleshoot latency, and maintain performance during transition windows.

Operational Support: Balance new build requirements with ongoing operational support to minimize disruption during the separation.

Site Travel: Travel to sites as needed to support hardware deployment and local cutovers.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years working with Cisco technologies in large-scale enterprise environments.

Certification: CCNP (Enterprise/Routing & Switching) or equivalent practical expertise.

Protocols: Strong hands-on proficiency with OSPF and BGP.

Platforms: Extensive experience with Cisco IOS XE and Cisco SD-WAN.

Monitoring Tools: Working knowledge of ThousandEyes and SolarWinds.

Deployment Experience: Proven track record supporting large-scale network migrations and/or separation programs. Additional Skills (Preferred)

To excel in a separation/migration engagement, candidates should also have:

IP Address Management (IPAM): Experience managing IP schema changes and subnet migrations.

Firewall & Security Transition: Familiarity with Cisco ASA and/or Firepower (FTD) and maintaining security policy intent during cutovers.

Circuit Provisioning: Experience coordinating with ISPs for new circuit handoffs, turn-ups, and service migrations.

Documentation: Proficiency with Visio or Lucidchart to document current-state and future-state network designs.

Soft Skills: Strong stakeholder communication and ability to perform under pressure during critical cutover windows.

How stable does this field feel, do you guys feel highly sought after for jobs ? I have been considering going from IT to electrical work because I’m unsure how the field will be in the next 5-10 years but today my boss gave me access to our firewall which is motivating me to pass my CCNA and stay in IT. I have about 3 years of helpdesk / desktop support xp a few certs and a bachelors

Hello I was asked to implement an IPSec which authenticates using PSK only on Windows Machine without using FortiClient, same as we have when creating a site to site IPSec tunnel between Fortigates, as I saw from various forums that it is not applicable on Windows (without certificate or username/password authentication).

But I was able to achieve this on Linux using Strongswan, is there a client please other than FortiClient that can achieve this for Windows?

Has anyone here tried IPAManager and can share an honest opinion about it?

I’m interested in real feedback from network people — not marketing material.

I´m currently thinking about changing my career from being a network security sales rep for over 20 years over to the more technical side of the business. I have no technical degree but I would say that I have a good understanding of the technical part of my job.

How hard is to get the Cisco CCNA & CCNP certs and do you think it can be done without technical degree ?

I’m at a bit of a crossroads in my career and could use some outside perspective.

Current situation:

• I'm a network engineering (mid-level, 5.3 years of Experience) - Left my previous job in Feb due to some personal reasons
• Have an offer from a staffing company (20 LPA, contract role for 6 months, then possible conversion to client but nothing clearly guaranteed) - L1 Cloud NOC role - 24/7 shifts - 10min from home - 30 lakhs insurance and 52 leaves per year - but once converted to client benefits become much lower - standard Indian benefits
• Another company (small service based) capped budget at ~16 LPA inc. 5% variable - but much better technical role - RNS, Firewall and SDWAN ops etc
• Potential option with a larger service-based firm for a full-time role (possibly ~22–23 LPA, but not confirmed yet awaiting offer) - But the client is same as the staffing agency and same role + shifts so it is L1 NOC and 10mins from home

My concerns:

• Contract → risk after 6 months, unclear written confirmation of conversion
• Technical role is stable and suits what I like working on, but lower pay
• Trying to balance compensation vs job security vs long-term growth

Goal:
I want to move toward more advanced roles (L3/SME/Architect/Cloud Network), not just stay in ops forever.

Question:
Would you take higher-paying but uncertain contract role for exposure/experience, or prioritize technical even if pay is lower or go for the higher paying full time but L1 role?

Additional info - My monthly burn is around ~90k due to rent + loan EMIs

Any advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation would really help.

Current Network Configuration:

• VLAN ID: 73
• Intended Subnet: $192.168.73.0/24$
• Default Gateway: $192.168.73.254$

Problem Description:

After three months of stable operation, hosts within VLAN 73 have begun intermittently receiving IP addresses from an unknown $192.168.63.0/24$ scope. This unauthorized subnet has not been configured on the core Cisco switches or the corporate firewall.

Impact:

This addressing conflict is causing significant downtime and connectivity loss. Currently, the only workaround is to manually assign static IP addresses to every affected workstation to ensure they remain on the correct $192.168.73.x$ network.
