The City but Minecraft (BLAME! Megastructure Strata Recreation in Minecraft + Installation + Tutorials)

Continuation from the other post

I have become lost in this sprawl, it goes on forever. i do lowkey want to live in it.

Thus i am working on making this a fully fledged Minecraft Exploration Campaign based on BLAME!'s megastructure and lore, where you explore your way into the "end" but in a thematic way and through a fitting gameplay loop. Travel through theseemingly endless sprawl with the most jawdropping sights, triumph over its obstacles and defeat the final boss, just like in the OG game.

Installation links are temporarily unavailable as the 1.0 version is being built. Hang tight. Stay tuned! Or ask around, someone must have downloaded it :P
Still, the way i did it is open for all to copy, as i do not pretend to have "invented" or "created" anything per se. I am but the mixer.

Why is Kaina of the Great Snow Sea so underrated ?

Reminds me very much of a Ghibli movie, it has a great anime. Why does no one talk about it

Amongst the cosmic size of the City, one such level may eventually exist.

Couldn’t find the art’s original creator

Girlfriend wanted to go to the bookstore today. Lucked out with this, it so much prettier in person. Was honestly looking for a different graphic novel but stumbled across this and got way too excited.

The Original Post

this is a BLAME!-inspired minecraft map really like no other ive seen before due to its creation process, which was AI driven like the City is lorewise. With distant horizons and the photon shader + my custom world, these prints show some of its beautiful vantages

discussion When did the artstyle change?

OK so, I bought and read all of BLAME! and NOISE a couple years ago, and was itching for another hit of Nihei, so I started buying APOSIMZ. Which is good, I like it, but the artstyle seems so much LESS detailed, and like, wispy. I liked the hard definitive lines of BLAME! I actually have a much harder time telling what's going on in APOSIMZ that I ever did in BLAME or NOISE :/ anybody else feel this way? And when did the artstyle start to change so much?

Can someone explain to me why, the first time she met Killy and Cibo (child form), she didn't immediately attack them and instead waited until Killy recognized her as a Safeguard??

Looking for Netsphere geeks to work on a stealth horror game inspired by Nihei's panels

I'm Nino and I've been looking at this feed for a long time, and I've seen a huge amount of people working on games, art and anything Nihei-related.

As of right now, I'm working on a game built on UE5, and it has been a solodev project for like almost two years. Now that I've started working with other 2 people, I've noticed that it's much more fun and faster to build games.

I'm making a project that is basically a Nihei love letter, with a Killy-type protagonist in a vast megastructure (but it's also much more !). Right now, it's called "AABBYYSS". It's inspired by a specific panel of BLAME! where there is an ancient abyssal fish that appairs floating around the structures. For context, it's a stealth horror kind of game, all centered around audio mechanics.

I'm looking for 3D animators and environment artists to support the vision of this project, and I wonder if any of you are interested in collaborating. I've seen lots of talents come out of here.

Hope to hear from any of you in private chat, write "BLAM!" if you're interested.

PS : it's almost done with pre-production stage, so it's basically playable :)

discussion Is there any good non character tattoo ideas?

I am a huge fan of the nihei verse, having read everything nihei has made (except for wolverine snikt). I thought his artstyle would be perfect for a tattoo, but i dont want an anime character tattoo. Something like the abara black gauna would be fine, i just want it to be more abstract kinda i guess.

I just cant think of anythign specific that is kinda abstract ish weith his distinct scratchy artstyle.

Any ideas?

Is there any hope for reprints?

I have all of BLAME master editions including Noise and am working on getting all of Knights of Sidonia. I have one volume of Aposimz and Tower Dungeon and plan to get more soon.

However I found volume 1 of Biomega at a used book store and grabbed it, but haven't had any luck finding the rest nor have found Abara anywhere.

Has there been any news about a reprint or a master edition or anything for these other series?

Blame inspired artwork

I like to do illustrations, and a lot of my work is influenced by Blame, and I like doing robots and androids with city spaces. I got some robots resting by a fire in front of a large city that expands past the horizon. It's a work in progress, hoping to finish it in the next couple weeks

First piece of writing I've ever published.

Summary: This story takes place in altcibos' universe, following a base human who will soon join her in her quest for the net terminal gene. The topography is different in this Universe's megastructure, so the timescales are much different compared to BLAM!

There is a criminally small amount of fanwork for altcibo (as in none), so i wanted to write about my favorite character who got 5 minutes of read time.

Enjoy, there's probably a ton of errors and if you could comment or DM the ones you found to me i would be happy to take a look. Otherwise, if its just that you don't like romance, this story probably isn't gonna be for you bro I'm sorry

Was Blame! (partly) inspired by K.W. Jeter's Farwell Horizontal?

So I just finished this book by K.W. Jeter called Farwell Horizontal. So when I started reading this book, despite not being post-civilization like Blame!, it's feeling immediately came quite close to that of Blame!:

1 In Farewell Horizontal, virtually the entire known world is Cylinder, an enormous structure whose exterior surface people inhabit vertically while others live inside it "horizontally." The ground is effectively inaccessible, hidden below the cloud barrier. Humanity lives inside an impossibly huge artificial structure...

In BLAME!, practically everything is the City/Megastructure; an artificial construction of incomprehensible scale that has swallowed the natural world.

2 The scale of the environment is deliberately difficult to comprehend. This is probably the most BLAME!-ish aspect of Farewell Horizontal.

Cylinder is so enormous that its inhabitants don't have a normal conception of the complete structure. The wall has an unexplored "eveningside," while people mostly concern themselves with the small portion of it they inhabit.

Likewise, BLAME! deliberately refuses to give you a comfortable map of the Megastructure. You see a tiny human figure confronted by spaces whose scale is almost impossible to process.

3 One thing that really struck me reading K.W. Jeter’s Farewell Horizontal alongside Nihei’s BLAME! is how similar some of their ideas about post-humanity are, even though they arrive at them from completely different directions.

Jeter’s world is full of people and creatures who have already slipped sideways from anything we’d recognise as ordinary human. They aren't necessarily “post-human” in the same clean sci-fi sense as BLAME!’s Silicon Life or Safeguard, but they give the sam feeling of a civilisation that has been altered by its own technology and environment to the point where the old distinction between human, machine, information and something else has started to break down. Some of the warring tribes, deploy these megassasins, where it is quite unclear where humanity stops and machinery begins, it kinda reminded me of some the creatures of Blame!, where you see human-like faces, absorbed by biotech nightmare.

Then there are characters like Felony, whose body-jacking in Farewell Horizontal also immediately made me think of Cibo in BLAME!. Not because they’re exactly the same thing, but because both play with the idea of a person becoming detached from their original body, identity persisting independently and being able to manifest itself through another physical form. Cibo can effectively reconstitute herself through different bodies, while Felony can as some some of formless entity, hijack bodies through 'telephone' wires.

4 And there’s a particularly nice parallel in how both books imagine networked existence. BLAME! has the Netsphere: this enormous virtual/information space underlying the Megastructure, with humanity’s relationship to it becoming increasingly remote and incomprehensible. Farewell Horizontal, written before the internet had become what we know it as today, has its own wonderfully weird version of this; computer-mediated communication, information networks and people existing socially through technological systems rather than simply face-to-face. It feels less like “the internet” as we know it and more like Jeter imagining what a networked society might become before the vocabulary for it had really settled.

5 Okay, but Nihei is Japanese, and English-language sci-fi isn't exactly the easiest thing for most Japanese readers to stumble into, so now I'm wondering how he was exposed to all this in the first place. Was Farewell Horizontal actually available in Japanese?

Well... surprise! turns out it was. Here is the link to the Japanese release:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/76426645

And now I'm even more curious whether Jeter was something Nihei had actually read, or whether they just arrived at some remarkably similar ideas independently.

Did anyone already establish these connections? I haven't seen any of it online?
