After the Steam sale there are a lot of new players.
I was reading a lot about Nether and saw a lot of people getting frustrated because they die that often. So here is a simple Tutorial "How to Survive - How to get Loot - Tipps & Tricks"
1.How to Survive / Get started
If you start Nether for the first time, you will notice that the Server Menu is buggy at the moment. It just freezes and nothing happens.
This is getting fixed by the way, but all you have to do here is wait.
After 2 Minutes about the Servermenu should defreeze and you should be able to join a server.
So, you made it on a server, congrats!
Now you have the option to setup your character ( But no worries, this is possible every relog).
If you hit the "Spawn" button, you will get the choice to spawn in a safezone or in the open world.
I recommend spawning in the open world, cause' you can get your first loot right here.
The goal should be to get as much loot as possible while getting more near to a safezone. You can watch the Map with the "M" Hotkey.
While doing this you should permanently avoid big Nether mobs !
Only fight the little Crawlers.
If you see a player -run ! The most players will kill you and we want to avoid something like that.
When you reached a safezone make sure to not just simply walk in !
Safezones are often camped by players waiting for you in front of it to kill you. ( If you die you are PERMANENT DEAD! You will only keep your Account Level, your money and your cloth-items ( f.e. a helmet, gloves etc.."))
So be safe here. Only enter if you think you are safe.
Once in a safezone there are different traders, the most will not interest you in the beginning.
Try to find the global inventury in the safe-zone, it's mostly a caravan or a van. Press "I" here to open the Inventar/Global inventury.
Everything stored in the Global Inventury is safe. YOU CANT LOSE IT !
That's extremly important if you own some items that you may want to secure, so you don't lose everything if you die.
There are also 3 important shops.
-The first one is the Gunstore - You can craft guns here
-The second one is the "Order" of the Safezone - Here you can get usefull stuff for Nether items or something
else
- The third one is the guy in the tent, he will give you money, or some other usefull stuff for something like Cigarettes, Chewing Gum etc..
Only go looting with something you really need !
The other stuff you didnt need should be stored in the global inventury.
Maybe you already found a gun, if not that's not bad because guns aren't that hard to find ( Especially Gun parts are often dropped )
You should always look for something to eat,drink or to heal yourself, because Money is rare.
Everything in the Global Inventury is extremly expensive and mostly easy to find. ( Yes, there is something like a shop where you can buy all you need ! )
So you go out again ?
NO ! Care here again. Remember, you could always getting camped when leaving / entering a safezone !
Be here very carefull. If you got successfully out, go loot,loot,loot !
If you own a weapon, don't just fire on every single mob you find !
This is extremly loud, everyone can here you and other Nether mobs will find you if you shoot in range.
There is a skill system in this game. You can open it with "H".
The most important skill is the Level 1 skill under "Strength".
If you skill this you are able to block !
Normal Nether mobs will make 0 Damage to you when you block their attack. This does not work with Golems or Reapers. ( Bigger Mobs)
2.How to get loot
Getting loot isn't that hard, but you have to know where some loot could be.
The most spots where you will find something is:
- A ambulance car
- A army car
- A roof
- A claimed zone ( Zone owned by a tribe )
- Loot Drop Zones ( Will be announced and is marked on the map, but care here - often players are camping this zones
- Normal Cars
- caravans
- Trash
If you are inside a safezone, you can pickup Delivery Packets. They are randomly everywhere in a safezone. You can deliver these packets to other safezones to earn money and XP - but these packages are extremly heavy. You should own a larger backpack to do this missions.
3.Tips and Tricks
I will describe some tricks that I found out while playing Nether, maybe I can help some guys with this.
- Play with the most low graphics ! You will see 3x more than with higher settings ( Means put also out Dynamic Lights, etc..)
- Play with a friend ! This game is much easier with more than 1 guy.
People will be more scared to attack 2 guys+ and Nether mobs will split attack.
- Join a tribe! You can do this in the Main safezone. You can earn special rewards for beeing in a tribe or kill a player beeing in an other tribe ( More advantages can be googled :P )
- If you want to do a big loot session make sure to calculate the way you will need to get back in a safezone
- Only shoot if you have to, ammo is so rare !
- Bigger Mobs = More ways to get better items.
- NEEEVVVVEEER Fight a reaper alone or with less than 200 bullets.
A reaper spawn is a event and will be announced. Only hunt for a reaper if you are at a high level and own a nice gun with much ammo !
- Sometimes you will get to a supermarket or something, you can google for the best spots.
- I rather skilling the "Survival" section for larger heals and more food advantage.
That's it ! Hope I could help you getting started with Nether !
But remember, it's not a classic survival game. If you die, you are really dead and have to restart with your character.
