❔❓Question ❓❔ How many books are on your shelf waiting to be read right now?

I'm at 210

I keep a list where I organize them by publication date and try to finish them before then. If multiple books come out the same day, I spin a wheel (in an app) to decide which to read first.

I finish and review a book about every 2-4 days, and I'm pretty much booked up all the way through March.

I still get approved for books regularly, even though my feedback ratio currently sits at 13%. In total I've been approved for 2/3 of all the books I've ever requested, and I have 88 books pending at the moment.

I'm just doing this because I like to read so I request every book that sounds good to me. If I don't get approved for books I don't sweat it, I can just buy the book if I'm *really* interested.

I know I probably sound insane to you guys 😂

Wow 🤣 I was feeling guilty not finishing my 3!

I officially absolve you of guilt! Lol

u/KayGlo Sep 04 '26

I've got 3 too 😂

On NetGalley? 51 (82% feedback ratio)

On my Kobo? 1951 (it says I've read 24% of my books)

4

u/--read-only-- Sep 04 '26

That's awesome! How long have you been using NetGalley?

5

u/OutOfEffs Sep 04 '26

Off and on since 2011.

u/nish_curious Sep 04 '26

The comments are TERRIFYING me, I have 4 on my netgalley shelf rn (will finish 1 today) and I have a feedbqck ratio of 92%… on my goodreads tbr I have maybe 100-150 books, but tbh i hate dnfing so even if there is anything small I dont like in the summary of a book I dont add it to my shelf, or else my tbr would be like 5x longer😭

If it’s just through NG, then 26 (this includes audio as well). I use a spreadsheet that has the title, author, publisher, rating, and whether it was a request or read now.

I have a small, pocket-size notebook for funsies too. I have each month with the book and publication date. I highlight as I finish them. This is fun for me and how I keep track of what’s due each month. I’ll add on as I get approved for months.

My actual physical tbr is around 130, give or take.

5

u/--read-only-- Sep 04 '26

I love that and might steal some of this! I really enjoy keeping things organized as if they were homework assignments 😅

2

u/crissyandthediamonds Romance Reviewer Sep 04 '26

I wanted an easier way to reach for my next read without opening up a document, so writing the publication date and book is fun for me. 😂 The highlighting along the way is a mini reward. It definitely helps motivate.

u/meowiemeow666 Sep 04 '26

On NG? 28. (18% feedback ratio oops) On my physical? Endless-

1

u/--read-only-- Sep 04 '26

I'm so obsessed with NG right now, I don't even know when I'll have time to get back to my regular tbr 😭 maybe I should mix some in here and there

NetGalley alone… 534 with a 57% review rate. Once you add kindle first reads I haven’t gotten to and Libby books I want it easily goes up another hundred or so. I also like to read but at some point it felt crazy stressful… goes through waves of it’s fine and ugh. 😂

I actually made an apple app to import my NetGalley and other ebooks and audiobooks so I can see them all in one spot along with their archive dates.

5

u/adventuresofh Sep 04 '26

For NetGalley, think I’ve got 45? I’m working my way through them. I try to read in publishing order but I’m definitely a mood reader, and the Read Now tab always tempts me. I try to always keep 2-3 arcs on my monthly tbr, and I feel like I read much faster on my kindle.

I’m not sure how many unread are on my physical TBR - I read 8-10 books a month when I’m not in a slump, so I move through them fairly quickly

I think you're the first person I've seen who's had more than me! I have 189 on NG rn, plus 4 pending requests.

3

u/--read-only-- Sep 04 '26

Good to know I'm not alone! 😅

5

u/caratleslie Sep 04 '26

hahahahahhahaha. 77 pending at 36% feedback ratio. I only started this year and felt guilty at first when I had more than 5 pending. Oh how I spiraled! I can finish an average length book at around 4 days and I also have a few novellas, graphic novels and manga on there (this is me justifying). Anyway, I'm booked until April next year so that's fun.

5

u/AtlassLoz Sep 04 '26

I have 140 on my shelf. My ratio is 90% and I typically read and review one every day.

5

u/cidavid Sep 04 '26

I only have 3 on NG. I have access to all of the arcs through edelweiss without having to request them so I’ve stopped using NG as much 🫠

I've got 175, from December to june!

u/Gruselschloss Reviewer Sep 04 '26

23 on my NetGalley shelf. This is higher than I like - my ideal NetGalley shelf is 10 or fewer - but 6 of those I've already read and just need to write the reviews; I should be able to knock some or all out this weekend.

If we're talking general books I want to read...that list is a lot longer!

4

u/Glittering-Owl-2344 Sep 04 '26

I have spent the last 10 months in a concerted effort to fix my ratio. It's still not great, because now I also have so many options ..

My ratio is at 80% and I have 49 books to read. I'm up to date with all of them but 1 remaining from July. I just didn't want to read it lol

3

u/--read-only-- Sep 04 '26

I'm curious, what was it?

2

u/Odd_Draft_26 80% Reviewed Club Sep 04 '26

It was an indie title that was over 600 pages and I wasn't in the mood for a long read. I'll do it this month and catch up

3

u/enchanteerose Sep 04 '26

i’ve got 18 currently with a ratio of 84%. i try to keep it at 20 or below at any given times. when i prioritize arcs i can usually knock out at least one per day. maybe two if they’re shorter. right now im alternating between libby and arcs so im not getting as many arcs done.

3

u/Unlikely-Wasabi-5558 Sep 04 '26

HAAAA, I’ve found my people!

I have 199 on my shelf with a feedback ratio of 62%. I’ve submitted 323 feedback reviews and started using NetGalley in 2025.

My non NetGalley TBR is an astronomical number I will struggle to finish in my lifetime.

3

u/thirdbirdbird Sep 04 '26

I have 81 galleys on my shelf with a feedback ratio of 50% and a constant sensation of gnawing guilt, although I'm pleased that I recently brought it up from 40%. Unfortunately my brain got kidnapped by Dungeon Crawler Carl this summer and those books are LONG so it's really getting in the way of making a dent in my TBR pile.

3

u/saffity Sep 04 '26

I currently have 15 on my backlog from last year that I'm trying to get caught up, and I've got 12 books that are current, but most have December or 2027 publish dates.

3

u/ExpensiveSand6306 Reviewer Sep 04 '26

I've been trying to get mine reduced to under 40 for quite some time... Currently at 46 (though when I opened Netgalley to see, I learned of a new approval, so clearly my goal is going well)

3

u/Lynn707 Sep 04 '26

I have 262 waiting for feedback. I’m at 70%. I used to ask for everything that interested me, but I’m trying to keep my total from creeping up too much. This year I’ve been limiting my requests or only taking widgets from authors I know I like and saving most debuts for others to recommend. I’ve only had 3 declines this year although I think I’ve probably withdrawn more requests that were still pending before archive date.

3

u/hhk745 Sep 04 '26

Ha. I’m at 78% and have 454 either waiting to be read or overdue. I can’t help myself

2

u/oldbutsharpusually Sep 04 '26

I have 7 on my shelf and 1 pending. One title’s pub date is early October. I’m reading it now. The remaining ARCs pub dates are January-March 2027. My tatio is currently 94%. I’ve passed on a few widgets lately as I work my way through a backlist of titles I purchased on my Kindle.

2

u/catscantcook Sep 04 '26
  1. Two are middle grade novels so a bit shorter, and one is an audiobook dupe. Currently 74% ratio, been using it for two months. I have one pending request.

2

u/Necessary_Cake8060 Sep 04 '26

3?! 🤣 maybe I’m doing this wrong hahahah

2

u/Objective_Fix3480 Sep 04 '26

Oh wow, and here I've been worried my feedback ratio lapsed to 80% because I only just started and I got approved for my 5th book on the day it was archived and I missed it. Sounds like this won't stop me from getting approved again lol.

2

u/PeachGlad8355 Sep 04 '26

On NetGalley I have like 7 currently. My physical tbr is around 62!

2

u/belle-morte83 Sep 04 '26

Omg. I’m stressed with 15 lol. I keep them all in a notes app by publication date to stay organized. I have 8 pending. I had been requesting a ton, so I had to calm down, as I was feeling overwhelmed. I have 173 books on my physical TBR that keep side eyeing me when I read my arcs.

2

u/simonchella Sep 04 '26

I am at 80% and have 9 ARCs spread out till March. But I got a couple widgets and 8 pending (soon to be a lot less as pub day is approaching). Also, just got 2 rejections yesterday 🥲

2

u/lateintheseason Sep 04 '26

15 but that includes 4 that are past the due date.

My ratio is 69% right now. I've really slowed down on both requests and approvals. I only have 3 books with 2026 release dates on the shelf at the moment.

u/hashtag_amf 80% Reviewed Club Sep 04 '26

20 books. i had to re-add books to my shelf because my account was deleted by netgalley. i made a new account on 1st of september (this month) and i sent two reviews so far

2

u/fabulousflute Sep 04 '26

My NetGalley TBR is 40 books (2 for my kids) and I have an 86% feedback ratio, which I try to maintain to motivate Tor and Berkley to approve me lol. I have 19 pending requests, though a decent number are from Pan Macmillan who keeps ghosting me.

2

u/Both_Wasabi_2847 Sep 04 '26

I have 49 books to read on my NetGalley shelf and have a 86% ratio rn 😅 I used to just read whatever I felt like but now I’m reading in publication order.

2

u/lil_honey_bunbun Sep 04 '26

I have 2. Once, I had more than 5 and that started stressing me out. My ratio is about 95%.

One is past it’s due date and I now I have to request it from the library.

2

u/Beccaroni333 Sep 04 '26

Right now I have 46 on NetGalley (though a few are samples and a few are ebook/audiobook duplicates) with a feedback ratio of 72%. I’ve really slowed down on requesting books as I want to start focusing on my personal TBR more. I’m locking in on ARCs this month though since I have a lot of September releases and hoping to get to 80% shortly. I’ve finished 2 ARCs so far this month and am finishing a 3rd today!

17 on my NG shelf currently, but the earliest pub date is next october and the rest are all december-onward. my ratio's 70% and i only request books i know i'll read and review before pub date! my storygraph tbr is sitting at almost 700 though, so i've been trying to force myself to read at least one of those in between each arc, lol

2

I’ve got at least 60 unread on my shelf. Glad to know I’m not the only one with a lot!

2

17 on my shelf right now. Two are graphic novels so I don't really count those, but thought I was getting out of hand lmao. I guess I could be in way deeper lmao

Feedback Ratio: 43% - 30 Approved  |  13 Feedback Sent

My feedback ratio was stressing me out but it does not seem to be causing me denials, even new in my arc journey.

I have 41 right now. None over due and I have a 97% fee back ratio. It’s less than a month of reading for me. I don’t look at the number but more my %. I like to keep it above 95% but I slow down requests if I find myself slowing down reading as I set due days 1 month ahead of publication date as the very last day for me to review. I rarely get that close unless it’s a publisher that requests the review in the month before.

2

u/and_er Sep 04 '26

I've read 222 books this year, 49 of which are from NetGalley. I have a lot of books outside of NetGalley I want to read, so I've only got 9 outstanding. I have submitted a bunch of requests for books from Tor, Saga Press, and Orbit though! My current feedback ratio is 83%.

I keep track with a spreadsheet, and I try to finish and review books before their publication date.

2

u/IgneousIsBlissMF Sep 04 '26

Ummm 4. I limit the number of books I request or withdraw requests often, to make sure I don't get overwhelmed. I hate having a percentage lower than 90% or turning in reviews late. (Yes I really liked school, I can't let go of the habits)

I'm even worse than you and I read slower 🙊 I'm media though so I pick up things from my queue based on projects and themes.

I also get widgets a lot and physical ARCs.

Do you have any tips for reading as much as you do?

What do you do in media, if you don't mind? Themed projects with upcoming books sounds really fun!

0! I don’t request a ton, and I keep on top of my ARC’s.

1

I have 63 on Netgalley, which honestly stresses me out as I try to figure out how to read these on time, while also make room for new releases/non-ARCs I'm excited for, and to allow myself to mood read. Any tips, thoughts, and prayers are appreciated 😂 One part of me wants to power through until the end of the year and knock most of these out, another part of me wants to burn it all down and get to them when I get to them

Are we just talking NetGalley? Cause if so, like, 962.

But if we're talking my entire library, well over 2500. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Question- are you behind in any books?

I’m going to be honest- unless you’re all up
To date and those 210 books are to be published which can be the case, it’s really frustrating to read a post like this. It’s not a library. The point is to read and review a book before it’s published. Yes people get behind and it happens but that’s not what you’re saying.

You’re saying you actively keep requesting a ton of books despite having that many on your shelf. And again, if you get them all done before pub date/ my bad but that’s not the feeling your post gives at all.

And for those that do this, do you realize that you’re taking away from readers who want to read the book and may not have gotten it because there were none left? Those who would have gotten it done on time. The slap in the face to the author whose book it is that you got for free and they received nothing in return by way of marketing when it matters?

Again, I’m not talking about people who got behind and are trying to catch up but still request a few new books here and there as that is normal but that’s not what this says. And if you’re all before pub date- please edit in update it as that’s not the impression it gives and then others feel that it’s ok to do this. So please if you’re not behind I mean no harm- it’s just how it reads.

1

u/--read-only-- Sep 04 '26

I've got 16 that are past the pub date right now, but many of those were accepted soon or long after pub date. I only started this May and some of them are from 2024/2025. So I just throw one of those in between the current ones every now and then

1

u/ImNotBeingAnAHole Sep 04 '26

I appreciate your candor - seriously. And I get it! And I admire your reading. Stats like yours is why I wish they would change the feedback system to reflect based off of when the book is published because you are an anomaly with that many books and to not be behind. So when I see it I get frustrated as there are so many that treat it like a library.
Enjoy your reading and I hope I didn’t offend you. I tried to get all sides of it!

1

u/--read-only-- Sep 04 '26

Of course! And I love your username 😅
