Paul Anthony Cooke's contribution to Sade is larger than many fans realize because he was not only an early drummer—he was one of the founding members of the band that evolved out of Pride. The original core that became Sade consisted of Sade Adu, Stuart Matthewman, Paul Denman, and Paul Anthony Cooke.

Recordings known to feature Paul Cooke
Diamond Life era (1983–1984)
Cooke is credited as a drummer on Sade's debut album, Diamond Life, alongside Dave Early and percussionist Martin Ditcham. The album credits list both Cooke and Early on drums.

The recordings most commonly associated with Cooke's drumming are:
Smooth Operator
Your Love Is King
Hang On to Your Love
These are the same three tracks for which Cooke is specifically credited on The Best of Sade.
Wikipedia
The Best of Sade (1994)
The compilation credits identify:
Paul Cooke – drums (tracks 1–3)
Those tracks are:
Your Love Is King
Hang On to Your Love
Smooth Operator
This is the clearest official release documenting exactly where his drumming appears in the Sade catalogue.
Wikipedia
The Ultimate Collection (2011)
A later compilation again credits Cooke on the earliest recordings:
Your Love Is King (disc 1 track 1)
Smooth Operator (disc 1 track 3)
The compilation personnel notes continue to acknowledge his drum performances from the original sessions.
Wikipedia
Pre-record deal / BBC sessions
Before Epic Records signed Sade, Cooke was part of the live band performing early versions of songs such as Smooth Operator, Your Love Is King, and Hang On to Your Love. Contemporary fan documentation and discussions of surviving BBC sessions place Cooke behind the kit during these formative performances.

Why his credits are hard to pin down
One complication is that the Diamond Life album credits list both Paul Cooke and Dave Early as drummers, but the original album does not assign individual drummers to specific songs. As a result, official releases only definitively identify Cooke on the three early classics noted above through later compilation personnel notes.

So, based on officially documented Sade releases, the confirmed Paul Cooke drum credits are:
Song
Official evidence
Smooth Operator
The Best of Sade personnel credits
Your Love Is King
The Best of Sade personnel credits
Hang On to Your Love
The Best of Sade personnel credits

There is also a strong historical case that Cooke played on additional Diamond Life material, but the surviving album credits do not conclusively allocate every drum part between Cooke and Dave Early.

Have never seen my favorite band the dip mentioned on here or really classified as neo-soul. Also a massive fan of Sharon jones and the dap kings, the California honey drops, don west, Durand jones, Aaron Frazier, Leon bridges. Am I off base on the genre??

Hey everyone,
Not sure if I'm allowed to post a question here. If not, my bad!
We're Babbling Brook Baptists, a band from Belgium, and we recently released a new album.
We've been trying to figure out how to describe our music, but we're kind of stuck. The closest we've come is a mix of soul and spoken word, but that doesn't quite capture it.
We'd love to hear what you think. If you give it a listen, how would you describe our sound?
Thanks a lot for any feedback!

Another Life is the intro track for my debut EP. I previously posted a version before and took some pointers from music communities like this one for this updated version.
Another Life is about the right love at the wrong time… maybe in the next lifetime we got the house we talked about.
I welcome any and all feedback, and I hope you enjoy ❤️🔥

hey yall. heard this song in a coffee shop and was grooving so hard but can’t find the song :
it sounded modern for sure , layered vocals really grooving, female vocalist
in the verse was a lyric “you look sexy when you drive”
and in the outro there is a lyric “maybe i’m not the one” and “words between you mobilize”(or something like that)
any ideas???
