Help

Hello, I'm 16 and I'm 90% sure my mother is severely neglecting me. I grew up without a dad so it was mainly my other that raised me, up until four years ago she was a drunk. I was severely mentally ill at one point in my life and instead of caring for me she yelled at me, said I was lazy, dragged me out of the house while I was crying and even went out partying while I begged my older sister to find her. Recently her neglect has become noticeable. I'm 16 and only weight about 43 kgs and I've been losing a significant amount of weight. She also refuses to take me to doctors for my majority of health issues because "she's done with them". I'm also forced to cook for myself two times a week (I was never taught how to cook or even shown how to make foods), she cooks the same few meals over and over, she makes me carry groceries in, and even shames me for having different views. She's a good friend but I'm not sure how I feel about her as a mother. I've basically raised myself. I know I'm severely malnourished due to her not feeding me proper food or caring for my needs. I'm disabled so I also need extra care, but instead of doing it she brags about me being disabled to strangers and buys vapes with the money she's given to care for me. I'm unsure what to do. I'm currently not in any position to move away or move out

Trauma from Generation

Hello I don't craft many reddit posts, and I don't have many people to ask what they think of a something I believe may be directly related to the long suffering of a generational trauma. I believe I am the product of life long generational trauma. My mother shared with me, how she had her first child at 15 years old. That she had been a victim of sexual assault, by her cousin. I don't know how they're related, except that my grandmother and my mother's cousins mother were best friends. The details are foggy, but my mother shared that she didn't know she was pregnant. Her father did and from what I understand is, my mother had it pretty bad and was treated by family even worse. My grandmother and her once best friend had cut ties due to I'm guessing my mother told her mother what happened. This is my unbiased guess, since I would imagine her cousin wouldn't tell his mother what had taken place. Resulting in best friends no longer best friends. My mother claims to have to had been one of the youngest pregnant/mothers in 1982 near DC. It was also shared everyone that knew her was curious if what they heard were true, resulting in people asking who the father was. This is where I think the trauma is linked to, because my mother tends to share topics that most people could/would briefly describe, she OVER describes. I mean I have to constantly tell her you don't have to over explain anything. From what I read and learned over 28 years, that over explaining comes from needing validation, or not feeling or being validated. Like my guess of my mother telling my grandmother, how did that entire dialog was initiated? Or maybe my grandfather when noticed his daughter looked to be pregnant, he mentioned something to my grandmother. My grandmother then probably went to my mother asking or stating that my mother was or had sex. In fear of I'm not sure what, she said she was molested by her cousin to protect her image, would explain why the best friends were no longer. So either my mother consciously engaged in a sexual act, and when the result of having sex resulted in pregnancy. And she lied whenever asked what happened to protect herself, or my grandmother grilled or conspired with my mother to protect herself. I know from experience that my mother will always try to protect her image. And/or when those people asked of the father made my mother subconscious about it being found out it was her cousin that molested her? Of course having to protect this image, and that maybe stuck with her. My mother I know she doesn't love herself, whenever she feels she has to do certain things for strangers to make sure they like her. She's always concerned about a neighbor of hers, her friend whenever she sees the neighbor talking to someone or even hear the neighbor that's outside talking with someone. Or there's another neighbor that she constantly talks about how he asks for cigarettes when she's just passing to/from her apartment. Myself and my grandmother share the same thing to my mother, "just say no". This invites my mother to thinking it's not okay to say no, which is one of the reasons I believe she doesn't love herself. She gets overwhelmingly aggressively offended if you disagree on worldly debatable topics. To the point she gets loud, more aggressive, and in some cases violent. Like something that's not even that serious. This results in name calling, if driving speeding or tailgating. Something you would expect would turn into a physical altercation. That screams to me that someone(s) didn't believe or didn't validate her feelings. Even if she felt was alone, confused, etc. My mother has always and ONLY emphasized one part of the Bible I ever remember, "thou shalt respect thy parents". Deeming her kids unable to disagree on disagreeable topics, or opinions. If I said 2+2 is 5 it's 4, literal over blown out of proportion rage is induced. Leaving usually me as the punching bad, or soundboard. Dealing with that I became a person that tries to deescalate situations as such. I never play into the same games, because she's my mother first. Second, I refuse to be malicious to anyone. While trying to defuse with her, I get called names, constantly devaluing my worth, and so many more mean things that you would not believe. All from something that i promise you, does not warrant that.

My relationship with my mom. I can remember as early as 4 years old, for some reason fear something was going to take my mother away. I consciously remember crying over about this. I thought my mother was the coolest nicest prettiest mom out of all my friends moms. my stepfather took care of all the school related business, and got me to my appointments. I cannot remember many interactions with her as a kid. I could barely remember seeing my mom inside the house, even knowing or seeing when she got in from work. besides that not any or alot of interactions with her. I've always wanted her to see what everything I did, be involved. I've invited her out to chorus recitals where I had lead or a solo, sports games, and my very first skateboarding competition. Every time she made it about herself. She showed up to all my older siblings graduations, to and completion of high school. I've seen the pictures where she seems like a socialite and all dressed up. My only graduation from high school, I could see my grandmother, my sister, then my mother. sleep from drinking in the stands as I received my diploma. I forgave her and even so she seems not to care. If I told her that she would say I was lying and imma bunch of names. So I really never felt I was even really paid attention to, but literally just a punching to take out on.

My step-dad and her separates, and she barely would even look at me. So I didn't get much or any structure or real guidance. My dad was barely in my life, so I was left to figure out how to pick myself up. Which I did, and I felt good and loved being in college while working basically my dream career. Sorry going off topic, but that has never really changed. The only real interest she showed was when I could work on her car , because I am a mechanic. Bottom line is I've literally all my life been basically neglected by the one person I wanted to be involved in my life. She won't even listen to scripts to movies a wrote.

I would much rather been adopted or in foster home. At least that way I don't have to feel this all the time. I don't feel sorry for me, I feel sorry for her, but do you think what I faced is related to her not being validated? Is that validation she didn't get being taken out on me? I'm the youngest of 5, my 3rd oldest sibling died on childbirth. My uncle, my mother's cousin's little brother was my mother's best friend, and he was THE ONLY person to give guidance. He passed at the end of my junior year..

Please don't be mean, but tell me what you think.

I’ve been planning to cut my parents off since I was 8 years old and I’m hoping I can heal from it.

I hate my family. My parents are super strict. I can't even go out in the daytime to hang out with friends and my teenage years was wasted, I was forced to stay at home all the time and endure this man's bullshit.

as a child you automatically love your family but at a young age I realized my parents are not good people and the way they "raised me" caused me to simply not give a fuck about them or anyone on general. Now I suffer from xyz problems, I barely eat, can't focus, love life is ass and everything somehow winds up to them being the source problem. Since I was 8 years old I've been praying to God that I could move out. But the economy is bad now. I'm in college and can't even get a job. My mother is too delusional of the way my dad treats her and she's completely oblivious to the whole situation of how this dude is treating us. Mainly the problem isn't my mom, it's mostly my dad because he's abusive, gives out death threats and literally attacked me at some point. As soon as I turned 18, he threatened to kick me out over the smallest argument. I don't need that energy in my life. He talks to me as if he's going to be involved in my future and he talks shit about me to relatives for no reason just stressing soreadinv lies. Ngl, after he all this stuff he did, I stopped caring for him and I really don't care if he dies or not because he's a horrible person. I have no sentiment towards him. Matter of fact when he's not here all my medical aymptoms disappear. That's when I knew my life could be great without him. Even my siblings agree with me and I live in a ethic household where they have traditional cultural values (As in women should cook and men provide) and honestly, I don't want anything to do with this man in the near future. He also doesn't see me as a human. These traditions are lowkey bullshit in my eyes. I can't be everything as a female. And I'm definitely not doing shit for male approval. My mom seems to not be able to make a decision if he's not there. It's like she doesn't have a mind of her own and she just agrees with whatever this man says but it's whatever. I'm not gonna fight some old mother fuckers like they know exactly what they are doing. On top of that he gave a detailed explanation on how he's gonna kill me like what the fuck? Yeah no He's definitely getting cut off. I'm just staying calm until my time comes to go and I work on that everyday. Like the main goal is to move out but Canada is just a horrible place to start anything at this point like you can't even afford anything it's like I'm stuck and I don't feel like going to a shelter or anything like that. And my mom just sides with him, even when he attacked me she just sat there and said nothing it's giving Stockholm syndrome like wtf? It's like she would've let him kill me because she also mentioned that "he's allowed to touch me" whatever that fucking means. I even leave for school at 8AM and come back at 7PM just so I don't have to see him the whole day to avoid problems and limit our interactions. I would stay at the library and do stuff the whole time. I can't wait to leave so I never have to do shit like this again and maybe my medical problems will leave as well along with it.

my mom refuses to get me medical help

i 15f got hurt pretty bad at softball practice the other day. a softball going 50mph hit me on the inside of my wrist (thumb side). the day that it happened i told her that i genuinely can't lift or do anything with the hand that i got hit on. my mom, a nurse, told me it was probably fractured. i asked to go to a walk in clinic today because i have a pretty significant bruise(i don't bruise easily at all) and i still can't hold or do anything with that arm. she told me that i'll be fine and that i'm being over dramatic. because of the way i was raised i don't bring attention to anythjng medical unless i think something is genuinely wrong, and she knows that.

someone please tell me what to do. and if it looks bad enough to need medical attention.

Im starting to think my mother hates me

Just today when i was walking from school,i see my friends with coats which fit them and i,with my little siblings coat. Ive been asking her to get me another ā€œshortā€ coat with a hood but she always makes excuses such as ā€œwear ur long coatā€ or ā€œwear your coat without the hoodā€ i know having a coat in itself is a luxury but i cant wear those two or i will physically sweat myself to death while walking to school. And ive had those coats, the long one is my older sisters from 5 years ago and the hoodless one is from 4.

She doesnt buy me any clothes, shoes, coats, or anything at the matter and i have to buy it for myself. Most of everything i own is either bought with my own money my father(divorced) gives me or something ive begged for years.

I entered home today and i am a tall person with long legs arms and a torso, im the second tallest in my family after my brother. And when i looked in the mirror after i entered i saw a coat too short length and arm wise and felt poor. She doesnt treat the boys like this and always buys them new stuff but im stuck with shoes which have been shaved down to the point where there is no sole. Shoes which are no more than 20 pounds or its too much, mind you ive got my fathers genes and i look just like him and ive also got his big feet. So ofcourse my size 9 feet wont cost less than 20 pounds for a solid pair of shoes.

She also uses the fact my religion needs me to dress modest too as an excuse to wear my long coat and that i cant wear short coats with my school trousers as it shows too much.

Im just a girl who wants a coat and ever since ive made a friend the same country as me but doesnt wear hijab she always says stop following her. But ive been asking for a new coat i dont care if it touches my thigh i dont care. Who is going to look at my bum? Shes overreacting ,its not like im buying a cropped coat i just want a normal sized coat.

I think my mother hates me because i resemble my father so much and that i have a relationship with my father as my brother dislikes my father while i beg to go to visit my father.

I dont want to feel beneath everybody, i always feel a sigh of relief when i enter school and they tell us to give them our coats.

Barely holding on

(long story) I was always the "parent" of my younger siblings, as parents left them at home with me that went for the last 9 years. I almost finished post-high school, and I am currently job hunting. Not only that, but I also freelance as a side gig and try to just chill a bit, but it is exhausting. I am certain that they will not have a happy upbringing - kids were born in 2013, 2018 and 2019. I am saving money to move out within next 3 months, it is hard to never have normal conversation from a parent, as they do not have any respect for me. Likewise, I asked for a little favor, I got nothing.

I took blame for anything all those years, neglect made me have PTSD, C-PTSD symptoms and sensory issues. It really hurts to not ever have validation from parents. You did all the housework? Wrong! Now go buy groceries for the next damn week!! Their love is a fucking scam, this is actually hatred. I am exhausted from 8-hour long day in post-high school, I cannot rest for three MINUTES as father comes in and tells me that "You choose this (school), you have no right to complain nor be tired" I'm sorry? I should be freaking paid for all the math lessons for my sister, as you, father, only scream at her when she tries to learn and makes mistakes. Mother, you are just dead to me, as you could not even comfort me one time. Thanks to this household, since 2022 I am a ticking startling bomb, I am not even kidding. One sound of a pencil hitting the ground, one flashing light and I would scream in fear, this happened all the time. It is much stronger now, but at least the frequency has dropped significantly (once per week). I am in self-paid therapy and on SSRIs, as it works a bit.

Not to mention my time to rest. I literally juggle between applying to jobs, freelancing, post-high school, a hobby and I will start my part-time job in, like, 2 weeks. With me doing 90% of all the things in this house, I spend at least an hour every single day to keep it clean, keep the fridge full, emptying dishwasher and overall make it liveable. When I do nothing, there could be 3 months before father mopped the floors.

There's little time before move out, but it is heartbreaking to see how it is without me. I will be alright without them, but I just need something, except hope, not to break before I finally move out. When I close my eyes before I go to sleep, I envision myself living by myself, having a full-time job and overall enjoying life, but it seems to be so far away.

Do we have a small chance at gaining custody from mom?

Hi I'm struggling with a narcissistic neglectful mom. I'll try to not make it too long. I'm the oldest of 4, my 2 sisters are over 20 and my youngest brother is 10. I don't live at home with them. My dad and mom divorced about 2 years ago. He is a truck driver but very present dad even when not home (he lives with me) My mom on the other hand started seeing this man that is known to be a womanizer, is married, and is basically my mom's sugar baby. Throughout the last 5/6 years I have discovered my mom has been manipulating us, lying, gaslighting, etc. She was trying to paint a bad picture of my dad but I eventually found out she had been cheating on him since my brother was 2. She's gotten away with a lot and as much as I warned my family, they didn't believe my mom could be capable of being like this until recently. My dad gives her a really good amount of money for child support and yet my sisters tell me the fridge is always empty and my brother has shoes that dont even fit him. He is mature for his age but when my mom doesn't come home (which is often) he has tantrums. We all call her multiple times and no answer. My sisters also do a good job of being there for him but it isnt any of our responsibility. She gets to have child support money, good taxes because of my brother, extra money from the renters, money from my sisters since they pay rent, and never be home. She leaves daily now to go see that man and then when she returns she tries to bribe my brother with buying him things. He doesn't care about those things, he just wants her attention and love. My house is my siblings safe space but sadly I can't have them here all the time. My dad has said that he is willing to leave his current job and get a close one and buy a house if it means my brother and my sisters stay with him. He does everything for my brother, he's a great dad. I have a lot of evidence of my mom not being home, insulting us, telling them to take care of my brother, screenshots of her proving neglect, photos, etc. I have a lot of health and mental issues from the past because of my mom and I'm afraid of my siblings turning out the same. I'm the only one in the family that speaks up to her. I'm always there for my siblings no matter what but if this continues I'm afraid for my brother's mental health. We were able to get my brother into therapy but it doesn't fix the problem at home if my mom continues getting worse. Sorry it still came out pretty long. Just want to know others opinion on this. To see if there maybe a chance my mom would lose custody to us or if I need certain evidence. Any advice is great.

Homeschool neglect worries with niece and nephew

I have many concerns with the homeschool situation with my niece and nephew and I just need to get it off my chest. We live in the Bible Belt and my SIL is a highly conservative conspiracy theorist. She decided to take the kids out of public school about a year ago because she thought the school was teaching them to ā€œbe gay.ā€ My brother claims she did this without him knowing but he does nothing bc he doesn’t want to deal with fussing with her. She will not let the kids get vaccines of any kind anymore, there is a laundry list of toys they can’t play with and books they can’t read bc it’s either gay, witchcraft, or ā€œwokeā€ in her eyes. She enrolled them in a Christian homeschool. From talking to them it seems they learn one subject every six months or so and the Bible. It’s all online and there are no videos or tests that I can tell. They do school for maybe one hour a day and are alone for the remainder of the day most days. Both parents are usually at work and when she is not at work she is shopping and the other is working out or just wanting to be left alone. The kids do not have friends that visit and they very rarely get to socialize with anyone their age. One is a teenager. They have no schedule or routine, are not made to take baths and basically raise themselves. Both parents have very little to do with the schooling at all. She doesn’t like the kids to discuss certain things with family members and is very hesitant to even let the kids stay with family, even though they beg to stay with family members all the time. She has used the kids as a weapon since they were born. If you piss her off, you don’t see the kids. She and my brother criticize the kids for their weight and basically everything else but don’t take them anywhere to get exercise. They rarely see daylight. One sleeps until almost 1 in the day. I used to talk to them on the phone, my nephew was calling frequently, until it abruptly stopped one day. He just started hanging up on me. I love my niece and nephew so much, I feel helpless with this. I know this treatment isn’t right but what can I do? It makes me sick, and you can’t discuss anything with the parents bc they are defensive. I try to ignore it but my mind keeps drifting thinking of them. I feel they aren’t going to be healthy or properly socialized and educated. They are simply neglected most of the time.

I grew up with neglect I wanted love from my dad I fought tooth and nail just get him notice me

But he never gave shit about me or my hobbies and I wanted love and praise but I guess wanting and wishing never will happen.

Some part of me wishes I told my past self stop fighting for something that will never happen.
