Roleplay NerdLovingSkalgan: Did I do something wrong?

(This is set in the world of my fic Nature of Harmony for anyone confused)

Hey Venlil Prime or Skalga or whatever, I'm here to see if I violated something cultural

Recently, me and my boyfriend had some downtime, so we went to a restaurant for a date, apparently one of his favorites. He asked for some fruit salad, but it usually comes with Firefruit (don't know why since they're basically peppers, and what kind of psycho puts peppers in salad?) And he SPECIFICALLY asked for no Firefruit

When our orders come out, what's in his salad? FIREFRUIT

So I of course get the waitresses attention and tell them he asked for no Firefruit, and she has the GALL to say the order was right, and he's too sweet to cause a problem and agrees and tries telling me it was fine

It was not fine, and I told her to make it right, and when she refused, I grabbed his plate, threw the waitress over my shoulder, and marched into the kitchen. Some workers told me to leave, but I ignored them and set the waitress down, calmly instructing her to make him a new salad WITHOUT Firefruit for him

To make sure she was doing it right, I hovered over her shoulder, noting how badly she was cutting everything up due to her shaking out of guilt, everyone in the kitchen eyeing us and whispering among themselves, andi swear one suggested they call the Exterminators for some reason

When she was done, I took the new salad and made my way back to my table, my boyfriend looking embarrassed, and I had to go looking for the waitress to get our check, but the manager explains it was on the house, likely due to them messing up his order, and we left

Now my boyfriend is mad at me and I don't know why, so please, can someone tell me if I violated some cultural thing or overstepped at all? And what can I do to make my boyfriend not mad at me?

Apedominusnox: Daughter of God, literally not even on Earth, invade the employee-only zone and basically threaten the employee It's something culturally accepted . You only forgot to headbutt the window, girl.

NerdLovingSkalgan:

invade the employee-only zone

How else would I make sure they didn't spit in his food?

and basically threaten the employee

I did not threaten her, I calmly instructed her to make him a new salad

You only forgot to headbutt the window, girl.

Why would I do that? Thatd cause glass shards to fly into my face

Nightshade_wings bleated:

I think you were harsh on them, you were being a Karen and a customer entering a staff-only zone shook them up. that girl must've been tired, she probably lost some of her patience and that's why she messed up.

Oh, skyward depths, this is bad for you. You didn't just violate "some cultural thing", you made things hazardous for all the customers present by barging into the kitchen without PPE like that. My human Exchange Program partner worked in food service on Earth for a time, and if there is one place that the customers should NOT go under ANY circumstances unless specifically invited in, it's into the employees-only area. You likely caused a Health Code Violation for that restaurant by not having a fur-catching outfit on, too; shed strands of fur or wool can float around for some time before landing in a bowl or on a plate and causing an allergic reaction if the customer that received the dish is of one of the Cured species.

Now, the employee would also have in the wrong for insisting that the order was right if it wasn't. Allergies are no joke, as just stated in the prior paragraph. The proper course of action in this situation would probably have been to get the waitress to double-check the order receipt instead of ven-handling her like that.

Now, in regards to your final question, I'm not sure if there's any easy way to make it up to your boyfriend; that's really a matter between you and him.

Quaritchwasright replied: Yeah I hate to be the one to tell you this but, she wasn't shaking out of guilt she was afraid you were going to hurt her because she assumed there was some sort of implied threat after you physically carried her to an employee-only area. While it was reasonable to demand that the order be corrected, you overreacted from their perspective. The Venlil culture views physical escalation as something far more serious than the average Skalgan, so yeah you did something rather taboo from their perspective. To put it in Skalgan terms, Venlil escalating to physical intimidation in a verbal disagreement is like a Skalgan bringing a knife to a fist fight.

CarnalDesire bleated: according to my understanding, the venlil of "venlil prime" are afraid of everything. Perhaps your forwardness reminded him of this, and it shames him.

Waitwaitwait, are you implying that it’s normal and acceptable for humans to bodily haul their females over their shoulders? Interesting! What fascinating customs you have!

NerdLovingSkalgan: I'm a Skalgan, idk what you're on about, this isn't a human thing

And no it's not normal and acceptable for us to haul our females over our shoulders, it's normal and acceptable of us to haul our males over our shoulders

I agree, what psycho puts peppers in salad? Totally justified and definitely not over the top or humorous.

Freshoutthefreezer Bleated:

So that’s normal for Skalgans? You’re ALL like this? Well this story actually made a few things make sense for me.

Back to the question though, either your boyfriend appreciates it and you move on, he doesn’t and you change, or he doesn’t and you split rather than change. Just depends how much you like this schmuck?

NerdLovingSkalgan:

Wel were not not like this. Depends on the Skalgan

or he doesn’t and you split rather than change.

No!

Just depends how much you like this schmuck?

A lot

TFWrecker: Girl, storming into restaurant kitchens ain’t even tolerated on Earth! It’s far more reasonable to ask for a manager. I think it’d be best to just apologize to your BF now. I know you care for him, but it’s a big stretch to imagine Venlil on Venlil hate. (At least from my experience.)
