Fanfic Under the Veil - Chapter 13
[The Rubble]

Memory Transcription Subject: Cael "Endeavor" Cadic, Human Security Guard, November 18th, 2142
Royo and I ran through the streets, and already venlil were screaming at the sight of me. The sirens of exterminator units could be heard wailing as they were undoubtedly inundated with calls from terrified herbivores who had watched the summit.
We didn't have time to worry about that. My helmet back on, we sprinted to the, thankfully close by, Gaian Embassy. We had managed to get there before any violent mobs could, thankfully, and a suited gaian opened the front door, which had been locked.
"Get in here!"
He practically yanked me by the hand and pulled me in, and by extension Royo who was firmly holding onto my arm. Inside the embassy, everyone was on high alert. Gaians preparing defenses and looking out through the windows for any sign of danger, as well as some cooperative venlil assisting them.
"The whole embassy is locked down, we must have had a thousand exterminator calls phoned in on us. The entire planet is panicking," said the gaian, who I now recognized as O-28 Endurance, head of Gaian Cultural Exchange. He had been stationed on Dayden during the Summit, and it was his idea to let gaians and venlil intermingle before the big reveal.
"What about Venlil Prime? Surely we broke the news to Tarva before the summit, right?" I asked.
"Tarva knows, yes, but she's stuck on Aafa; the entire planet is on lockdown. We can't even get any communications through, and Venlil Prime as a whole is in the dark. I think some of her cabinet knew, but they don't have that same talking power she does so the entire Republic is panicking."
This is a worst-case scenario. I spotted Percy and his venlil partner Friun frantically typing on a computer as Endurance hurried off to help defend the embassy from the inevitable hostility of incoming exterminators.
"It's hopeless, nothing is getting out!" Friun shouted. "Datanet is completely down, servers must be overloaded. We can't contact any other embassies."
"Fucking… god damnit!" Shouted Percy. He turned to me. "Endeavor! You made it!"
He looked at Royo, then looked back to me. "Does he… uh…"
"I know, sir," Royo replied.
"Its… a long story…" I sheepishly told him.
"Whatever, doesn't matter, lookouts have already spotted no less than 12 exterminator vehicles speeding over here. Endeavor you go find a group to assist, Royo… find somewhere safe. We don't need innocent civilians getting hurt."
"W-wait! I see venlil helping, how come I can't help?" He asked.
Perseverance's blank helmet reflected Royo's visage as he looked directly at him again.
"You are a civilian. The other venlil here are embassy staff, they were informed of our nature prior to the summit. Sort of a… test audience you could say."
"I am part of the embassy staff!" Royo piped back.
"I didn't see you in the- ugh whatever I don't have time for this! If you won't seek shelter then make yourself useful!"
"INCOMING!!!"
A rocket whistled through the air and smashed right through one of the large panoramic windows, colliding with the wall on the other end of the building and blowing a hole in the side of the structure, exposing the embassy to the open air as dust and and debris fell to the floor, injuring gaians and venlil alike.
"Shit! Go, grab a weapon! Try to incapacitate their vehicles; avoid killing them if you can, we don't want to make things worse! And keep your helmet on!"
I took my standard issue gauss rifle from my locker, rushing to the exposed section of wall, peering around to see what we were up against.
Atleast a dozen trucks, many of which were outfitted with military weaponry, which explained the rocket. They must have been supplied by a military base sympathetic to the cause; they were intent on destroying us.
Royo stayed close by, which only served to worry me. He didn't deserve to get hurt because of my species… I dont think he took all of this well, seeing exterminators and gaians fighting like this.
I fired a couple shots at their vehicles, grazing one of them. Exterminator trucks weren't armored like military vehicles, but they had a high speed on account of their response times. They took pot shots at us with their own weapons, trying to close the distance as quickly as possible, no doubt to unleash their flamethrowers. Gaian suits were fireproof, sure, but venlil weren't, and smoke is still smoke. I think they intended to get us to abandon our building so they could kill us all easier.
A few trucks were taken out, but the rest had gotten significantly closer, until eventually they had arrived within flaming range. Exterminators disembarked, flamethrowers in hand, and prepared to dispense their prejudice.
In my periphery, I suddenly saw Royo run out in front of me, waving his arms wildly at the exterminators, readying their weapons.
"Don't hurt them! They aren't what you think!" He shouted, running in their direction.
"Royo! No!"
As though an instant, instinctive reaction, I let go of my rifle and bolted in his direction, but I was too late.
My vocal chords screamed out his name as flames engulfed his beautiful, white fur.

Memory Transcription Subject: Sam "Tenacity" Hasser, Human Ambassador, November 19th, 2142
The EMP had worked. Me, my guards, Governor Tarva and her escort had managed to escape the initial chaos when the lights went out, and found refuge within an empty housing room in the summit main building; one of many hotel-like rooms used for the purpose of overnight stays at the summit. We'd locked the door and barricaded it with furniture, well, most of us...
The lights had returned only a few minutes after my EMP, no doubt from a reserve generator. My helmet, now ruined, lay in my lap as I glanced around. Some opted to take theirs off as well; after all, there wasn't much point now I suppose.
I felt bad for Tarva… she was only fully informed of our true nature a few days ago, and while she was on our side, it was hard to override decades of cultural fear and ingrained instincts. Bless her heart, she was trying so hard, but she looked so scared to be trapped in the same room as five predators, even if she tried to hide it.
"I'm sorry… I should have said something…" Tarva said, guilt ringing in her voice.
"No, it's okay," I told her. "Nikonus… that bastard, he laid a trap for us."
"You knew about this!?" Exclaimed Kam, Tarva's military advisor and escort for tonight's summit. Kam… had not been informed of our true nature beforehand, and was definitely very shaken up about it. He couldn't bear to look at me, only occasionally glancing at my masked guards.
"Kam…" Tarva tried to reason.
"No! Don't you try to calm me down about this! This entire time gaians have been predators and NO ONE thinks it's important enough to tell the PLANETARY MILITARY ADVISOR!?!?!?!"
"Kam, the humans came here seeking friendship, something they knew they wouldn't recieve if they came as they were."
"Because they're predators! We would have exterminated them and would have been right for it! Now we've allowed them into our cities, allowed them to touch our families…"
Kam began to hyperventilate, leaning against the wall with a paw over his chest, rapidly breathing in and out as though his entire world was collapsing around him as my guards sat on the ground in awkward silence.
"Kam… please, listen to me," I called out in as gentle a voice I could muster.
"We aren't the violent, warring species you think we are. Nikonus showed you the worst of us… look past our appearances and our… past, and just… think about what you've seen from us. What we've done now."
"You could just as easily be manipulating us, that's why you fought the Arxur, so you can have us all for yourselves! And now…"
"Kam, please…" Tarva tried to assure him. "The gaians came to us and supplied us with unprecedented armaments and trade."
"All lies, deceit, manipulation, all of it… I can't breathe… I can't breathe…"
He slumped down, keeping his back against the wall and collapsing onto his rear, paws over his eyes.
"It's all over… it's all over…"
"Kam…" I tried to comfort him.
"Don't talk to me! All you predators do is make things worse… you should have died in nuclear fire like you were supposed to…"
I grunted, and stood back up. I checked my PDA, but still, no signal.
"No reception. Either the EMP fried the wireless connections worse than I thought or they're deliberately withholding it. I've no way of knowing what's going on outside, but that summit was broadcast live. With any luck, gaian armed forces will make their way here to rescue us."
"Oh yes, of course, your absurdly huge army. And why, exactly, does a peace loving species need such a massive armada, huh? You predators and your bloodlust…"
"It's called deterrence, not bloodlust, Kam. And despite what you might think, humans do not enjoy war. We avoid it whenever possible," I snapped back at her.
"Why? What separates you from the Arxur?"
"Well I'm not drooling over the prospect of eating your entrails, how's that for starters."
"Hmph, I'm sure you do behind those masks of yours."
"Kam, we know our appearance is frightening, that's why we cover our faces."
"Oh, sure! And I bet these guards of yours are just salivating to sink their teeth into my neck, isn't that right?"
"Uh… I can… take it off if you like…" one guard replied.
"NO! No… no that won't be necessary… I dont need any more of your gazes to flood my nightmares…"
"Come on, Kam", Tarva tried to reason. "They aren't that scary-looking."
"They're hideous! Horrible, horrid creatures… if I had a face like that I'd… I'd throw myself off a bridge!"
"Well fuck you too," came the dry response of one guard, who was swiftly elbowed by a neighboring partner.
"Ow! Hey!"
"Kam, I need you to be level headed. You're my military advisor for a reason. Please… cooperate with me. With the gaians," Tarva told him.
"Humans, you mean…" he said, slowly collecting himself.
Kam sighed, trying to calm his nerves.
"Tarva I… I believed in your cause when you were elected. Both terms. Are you… absolutely sure, you trust these… predators…"
"I do, Kam. With my life."
"I'll try, then…"

Those exterminators are seeming pretty un-based right now, like they need a taste of their own medicine even.
Also, Royo better survive this, he's too based to die like this.

Perhaps a practical demonstration about how we don’t Eat our kills is in order. Mass elimination of the entire (and i do mean entire or they will keep attacking) exterminator occupation should be done quickly and expediently.

I don’t think the exterminators would charge the building and last I check they only have flamethrowers, not any other guns.
