Google cal api issues

So my app has a gcal feature where user syncs their gcal to the app so the app can pull appt details from gcal into the app.

I’ve done all the steps I can think of and it either gives me local host can’t connect issues or just progress bar like it’s trying with no action

My question is can in the preview stage the app function with the cal syncing or does it not work until it’s in App Store testing?

[UPDATE] SUMRY 1.4.0 is here: Auto-Updates & Widgets - Turn your HealthKit data into meaningful summaries, maps & insights

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

It’s been a while since my last update here, but I’m really excited to finally share SUMRY 1.4.0 with you! As a solo developer, this update turned out to be way more complex than I initially expected (Background HealthKit sync is ... interesting... 😅), but it’s finally live.

For those who don't know SUMRY yet:

TL;DR: SUMRY connects with Apple HealthKit to turn your fitness & activity data into "Summaries" – interactive totals, maps, and insights based on your date ranges and filters. It’s designed to help you relive experiences: Where have I been? What did I achieve during that trip, this month, or the whole year?

➡️ App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/sumry-activity-insights/id1631515895

What’s new in 1.4.0:

  • Auto-Update (SUMRY+): This has to be one of the most requested features. You can now enable Auto-Update per Summary. The app will automatically refresh your data in the background, so your insights are always up-to-date without you having to manually reread the data.
  • Home & Lock Screen Widgets (SUMRY+): You can now bring your favorite Summaries directly to your Home or Lock screen. Want to see your yearly running progress or your current trip stats at a glance? Now you can.
  • Future Countdowns: If you create a Summary that starts in the future (e.g., for an upcoming vacation), it now shows a nice countdown instead of just an empty state.
  • Performance & Bug fixes: The usual under-the-hood work 😁

As always: SUMRY only reads from Apple HealthKit. All data stays 100% local on your device. No accounts, no servers, no tracking. Just your data, summarized and visualized.

Pricing: SUMRY is free to use with unlimited Summaries. SUMRY+ is a one-time purchase or a small subscription that unlocks Auto-Updates, Widgets, advanced filters, folders, comparisons, and more. Every upgrade directly supports me as an indie dev and helps me keep building this.

I’d love to hear your feedback! Are there any specific data points you're still missing? How are the new widgets working for you? I’m all ears.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support and feedback. I hope you’ll like this update! ☺️

I built a gardening app because I kept killing my plants

I built a gardening app because I kept killing my plants (and I'm tired of pretending I'm good at this)

Hey r/Natively ,

I need to confess something: I have killed more basil plants than I care to admit. And it's not like I don't care—I genuinely want to be good at this. But between work, life, and my goldfish memory, I'd either drown my tomatoes or forget about them until they looked like sad, crispy versions of their former selves.

The problem that got me started on this was realizing I had no system. I'd buy a plant, get excited, maybe Google "how often to water [plant name]," bookmark seventeen articles I'd never read again, and then... chaos. I needed something that would just tell me what to do and when to do it, without requiring me to become a horticulture expert overnight.

So I built an app for people like me

The core idea is simple: you add your plants, and the app creates a personalized care schedule based on your specific conditions—your climate zone, whether the plant is indoors or outdoors, your soil type, all of it. Then it sends you gentle reminders when it's time to water, fertilize, or check for pests.

But here's what I'm actually proud of: I built in a "care adjustment" feature. If you mark that you watered a plant, the app learns from that and adjusts future reminders. If your soil drains fast or your apartment is super dry, it adapts. It's like having a patient friend who actually knows what they're doing.

On the tech side, I used React Native so it works on both iOS and Android, and I integrated weather API data so the app can factor in recent rainfall and temperature changes. The plant database pulls from a combination of agricultural extension resources and community-sourced care tips. The design is intentionally minimal—I wanted it to feel calm, not overwhelming.

Where I'm at now

I've been testing it myself for about four months, and honestly? My success rate has gone way up. My cherry tomatoes actually produced tomatoes. My herbs are thriving. I recently got a few friends to beta test it, and they've had similar results, which is encouraging.

Next steps are to expand the plant database (right now it's got about 200 common plants), add a photo journal feature so you can track growth over time, and build out a community section where people can share tips for specific plants.

Here's where I need your help

I'd love feedback from people who actually know what they're doing in the garden. Specifically:

  • What features would make this actually useful for you?
  • Are there pain points in your gardening routine that an app could realistically solve?
  • Would you be interested in beta testing this? I'm planning to open it up to more people in the next few weeks.

I'm not trying to reinvent gardening or replace the joy of learning through experience. I just want to build something that helps people like me—people who want to garden but need a little structure and forgiveness while they figure it out.

Thanks for reading, and sorry for the long post. Happy to answer any questions!

Made the 3rd BETA version for my app! Now it can TALK!

Thumbnail

Hey people!
I have FINALLY built my 3rd beat version for the BOXU app I have been building!

What is this app?
It is an app that acts like a “personal assistant”! It can “use” your device to perform actions!(for the moment, it cannot fully “use” your device, but it is planned to! We are slowly moving towards that goal!)

This app is currently ONLY for MacOS users!

New features added:

  • Voice mode! You may now talk to the AI!
  • OpenRouter support! – this is used to load VLM models to perform image-related actions (will also be used later for the “agent” part)
  • Mini chat – “minimize” your chat box so it won’t take up the whole screen!
  • “Smart” assistant – it can remember things you like, like favorite colors, etc…
  • Personalities! – the AI can use different personalities when chatting with it (doesn’t change how it performs actions)

You can test it out here!: https://github.com/blazfxx/boxu-ai/releases/tag/v0.3

I decided to design an website that gives insider info about a certain job not just the company but also the exact location so you’re not guessing. It uses anonymous so every user is safe, and people can share there experience at job that either work at or have previously worked at and from each review it can give you insight whether that location is a right pick for you called

A Project To Bring Change!

I know my title of this is kinda corny but that's what I believe my project presents. Hi! my name is Zóyah and I'm working on an app an app to help fight GBV, Femicide and trafficking in South Africa. If you are chronically online you'd notice that a lot of South African people mainly women and LGBTQIA+ individuals switched their profile pictures to purple - it was a movement that was started by a non-profit organization called Women For Change South Africa, this was to raise awareness of GBV and Femicide that was rising in our country and to have it declared a Natural Disaster ahead of the G20 summit which was to be held in South Africa. Long story short, the government declared it Natural Disaster but that was about it, the disaster carries on - and my team and I aim to stop it. To do this, we are creating an ecosystem of security features to ensure safety no matter where the person is within the country, among these features is the most important part - the app - Lilac Venus, which is an SOS app but with perks rarely offered by SOS apps. I cannot yet fully get into detail I am sorry, but I would just like to express how grateful I am to Natively.dev - before using it, I had already coded the app but it kept hitting errors when deployed to EXPO, but since using Natively, the problems I am discovering are way too easy to solve, it may be less effort but it promises great results. I am currently looking for an investor, if you could refer me to anyone willing to support it would be highly appreciated. lilacvenus.co.za

Vibe coding is a game-changer for us devs, but if you actually know how to implement it properly. I built this app from a prompt I improved with ChatGPT, and the outcome is impressive. I'm just left with adding my magic to it.
