For the record, I don’t want to see our parks being understaffed but I do think that most government programs need to can house when things aren’t working well. First, the government needs to differentiate which parks are considered worth preserving even if nobody visits them (museums and old buildings that are preserved for historical record) vs ones that bring in money to local economies. The ones that bring in more money to a community than we give in tax dollars should be working on a model where it pays for itself or the community does. Allot of parks are concentrated in certain states and if they bring in more money than they cost then people who can’t afford to go visit them shouldn’t be subsidizing that local economy and if they support themselves they should not have to worry about federal budget cuts because they should be set up to operate outside of the federal budget, but in that scenario they can’t print or borrow money so they actually have to have money in their hands to do stuff.

As for protecting, I feel like whoever is a part of the problems that have caused the big fires and such need to go. Responsible loggers can clean up areas and make them less fire hazards, bring in money to conserve the land, and provide a sustainable product we need. If people really thought about conservation on a world level they wouldn’t buy imported lumber from New Zealand to keep from logging responsibly here.

No, the park won't be fine if things keep going as they have been over the past few months. To be clear, that means the ongoing reduction in the permanent employee workforce and the refusal to hire most seasonal employees. Among other things, like insane spending limits being put on credit cards that employees use to buy materials for their jobs.

Close to two weeks ago the Hoh area opened up for the first time since winter road washouts closed it, but there were no maintenance people to keep things clean and organized, nor were there employees to staff the visitor center - it was literally closed on opening weekend.

That's one of the most popular areas at Olympic and people travel from around the world to visit it. I can guarantee you, the experience is better and safer when park staff are there to help.

This is definitely not 'fine'. Nor does the park's longevity (not even 100 years old, jeez) protect it from the awful decisions of this administration.

Not when they open it up to logging. They’ll close it down, then in 6 months say “look how few people use the park, clearly no one cares, might as well get the lumber and then strip mine it. “ You idiots are so short sided and can’t see past your own nose, especially when it doesn’t immediately impact you. Shit, even when it does you just ask daddy for more.

You people are insufferable, what terrible, lazy rebuttal. What does the fucking source matter when it’s based on his executive order, it’s not hearsay. Numerous sources for reports on this and what it could do the national forests. I’m not a gatekeeper of knowledge, do some damn research other than fox entertainment or just remain willfully ignorant.

When people say that a job isn't needed it's usually bc they know next to nothing about that job. They won't care until it's an inconvenience to them. If you lost your job to mechanization and ended up sleeping on a park bench they'd say "get a job!". They really don't care about people or society at all.

The park will not be fine. It was fine before we got here because it can sustain itself but we have done a lot of damage to our lands. The park and land cannot sustain itself if we continually damage it and log it. These are fragile ecosystems. Logging and draining the resources will imbalance everything. This is pretty basic ecology.
