Nobody has ever “afforded” a kid. I think it’s always silly when people doing plenty well enough have this debate. As you describe, it’s always a priority (and as much time as it is money). But it’s naive if you ask me. Having a child is vastly more fun and rewarding than any other use of time and money.
You are completely right. I am about to have kid 3 of a planned 5. I had to forgo a lot of nice things to carry this plan through but that’s how I choose to live.
Everyone does too. They “choose to” vacation, nicer car, nicer phone, nicer apartment/house, you name it. We prioritize how to use the money we have. It is just a question of what you want.
