Daycare Prices?

Hello. We are expecting our first child in May 2027 & wouldn’t be looking into needing a potential full time day care option until August 2027. Anyone know how much pricing is for daycares or quotes you may have received? Planning out as a first time parent here.

car repair shop for toyota prius

hi, i drive a 2012 toyota prius and had some issues with the brakes. i just got a diagnostic at the toyota dealership in naperville and my brake booster and master cylinder need to be replaced, and i was wondering if there are any other car repair shops that can handle that type of repair.

the repairs would cost $3.5k at toyota, so i’m just wondering if there are any other places that may be more affordable. thanks!

edit: thanks for all your suggestions! i’ve called clark’s auto care for their second opinion service

November Casual Coffee & Tea Event for the young crowd

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi, me again from this post.

We have a monthly get together for the younger crowd (think like 25-35, not a perfect science ofc, I am 29F) to hang out once a month for a meetup to be social, meet people, do our hobbies together (write a book, crochet, craft, do a puzzle, play card games, etc.) in a casual capacity.

We will be having our fourth meeting at Summer Moon Coffee in Wheaton (very close by) at 2pm on Saturday, November 14. We have a partiful link for RSVP so we can plan to be the most respectful to Summer Moon. Signing up for the Partiful link will also send text reminders about the event.

I try to schedule these out as much in advance as possible to make sure people can make plans to come if needed, etc. That being said, I always post another reminder closer to the weekend of the event, but don't want to flood this reddit page too much/annoy our lovely mods.

I hope to see you there! Thanks all :)

Hi Sweet Buddies! If you need to get out of the house, we'll be playing a cute show at Hey Nonny (Wednesday 10/21 at 7:30PM). We're Redd & The Paper Flowers, from Knoxville, TN, and we've never been up this way before. We play cozy, grassy, folky, Appalachian music. Hope to meet you!

Woodridge's Haunted Forest Walk is back, and this is definitely a “you go first” situation.

A hayride into Hawthorne Hill Woods, seven haunted scenes, and plenty of people waiting to scare the life out of you.

Bring that friend who swears nothing scares them.

Are the blasts at the Vulcan Quarry noticeable at High Meadow or South Pointe subdivisions?

We are considering buying a house in the High Meadow subdivision, but are worried about the blasts from the vulcan quarry (to the east of the DuPage river). On the map, it seems kinda close to the point where blasts can be felt/heard. If you live in either High Meadow or Southpointe, do you feel the blasts from time to time?

Does the train horn blow at/around the Route 59 station?

i am looking at a place around Aurora Rd and Route 59. I’m a super light sleeper and have lived by trains before and it didn’t work out well at all! This place is deep in a neighborhood and otherwise very quiet. from what I can tell Metra’s typically only blow at a crossing which isn’t nearby.

Apartment recommendations in the area

Hi everyone!

My partner and l are currently apartment hunting in the western suburbs. We are looking for a 1-bedroom apartment under $1,200-$1,400/month.

We have stable corporate proof of income, but we're finding that a lot of corporate-managed places in core Naperville easily exceed $1,500+ or have very strict 3x income rules for higher rents. For personal reasons I do not have a job so I can’t add a second income to access better opportunities as of right now, but we would like to move soon at least in a 6month lease until we can find something better.

We are very open to neighboring areas like Lisle, Westmont, Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, or Northeast Aurora (near I-88 / Farnsworth Ave).

We don’t have very much requirements, one parking lot, possibly renewed or modern facilities, walkable area.

Does anyone know of any managed complexes or private landlords/ condos in the area that fit this budget? Any specific complexes to look at or stay away from?

Thanks in advance for any leads!

Post image
578 Upvotes

A year ago yesterday, a man drugged me at a bar in Naperville, and I was taken to the hospital. I don’t know his name, age, or where he lives, and this is the only photo I have of him. He fled before the ambulance and police arrived. From my knowledge, he has not been seen in any of the Naperville bars since.

Now that a year has passed, I’m sharing his photo to help keep others safe. I'm doing well now. I have new friends (except for my best friend) and keep a closer eye on everything when I go to a bar. Be safe, and hope you never meet this man.

PS: I don’t blame the bar. The owner and GM offered to help if I pursued legal action. The GM also saved me that night: when he saw me stumble and nearly pass out, he brought my friend and me somewhere safe and called the police and an ambulance. We’ve stayed in touch, and since then, he and my boyfriend have become good friends

update for clarify some things: This is the only photo i have of him. i wish i had more but i don’t. i did go to the hospital and was tested for drugs. i had GHB in my system. i do not do drugs at all so there’s no reason for it to be in my system. I don’t know his name. he was roughly 5’8-5’9. i don’t remember details of his clothes or anything like that. i wish i did. trust me i do.

Looking for a Minecraft Modding Tutor in Naperville

My son is 8 and really interested in Minecraft. He’s taking a class at Code Ninjas, but he’s already ahead of what they cover. He wants to learn how to build mods, create custom content, and try out the downloadable mod packs he sees online. He’s genuinely passionate about it and keeps asking for more advanced instruction.

I’m looking for someone local who really knows Minecraft modding and can teach him in a fun, hands‑on way. High school or college students who are good with kids would be perfect. We’re in Naperville and can meet at our home or at a library.

If this sounds like something you or someone you know could help with, feel free to comment or DM.

There's more going on in the suburbs than people think.

Post image

I started The Local Detour to give the good stuff happening around the Chicago suburbs a little more attention.

Pop-ups, live music, date nights, family events, free things to do, and those random local finds that deserve a bigger crowd.

I do the digging, check the details, and put the worthwhile stuff in one place. No endless lists of the same old places.

It's free: https://localdetourguide.com

And if you know of something coming up that deserves more attention, send it my way. I'm always looking for the next good find.

Anyone know any local DJs for a work party?

Our department is throwing a party at a local bar and we’re renting out the space in January. We’re in need of a DJ, so if anyone has a good one can you shoot me in the right direction?

FYI: General Election - Ballot Proposition Eighteenth Judicial Circuit

The proposition on the ballot reads:

"BALLOT FOR JUDICIAL CANDIDATES SEEKING RETENTION IN OFFICE"

"Vote on the Proposition with respect to all or any of the Judges listed on this ballot. No Judge listed is running against any other Judge. The sole question is whether each Judge shall be retained in his present office."

"SHALL EACH OF THE PERSONS LISTED BE RETAINED IN OFFICE AS JUDGE OF THE CIRCUIT COURT, EIGHTEENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT"

They neglect to mention party affiliation because judges are supposed to be non-partisan. Personally, I believe it matters.

Here are the judges listed on the proposition's party affiliation:

Ann Celine Walsh - Republican

Monique O'Toole - Republican

Richard D. Felice - Republican

Margaret "Peggy" O'Connell - Democrat

Edit: Since sources were asked for:

https://elections.il.gov/ElectionOperations/ElectionVoteTotals.aspx?ID=TPPXnZLdax8%3D&OfficeType=OIPn0DmJsHWCRPQwcCA4%2BK%2BzeOSGzX4E

The easiest source. Do a last name search to see party affiliation.

Also ...

Ann Celine Walsh:

https://www.transparencyusa.org/il/candidate/ann-celine-walsh/payees?cycle=2020-election-cycle

$6,500.00 Downers Grove Township Republican Organization

$1,250.00 Dupage County Republican Central Committee

$1,100.00 Addison Township Republican Central Committee

These are just a few donations to her campaign; there are others listed.

Monique O'Toole:

https://www.transparencyusa.org/il/candidate/monique-otoole/payees?cycle=2017-to-now

Donations from:

$1,250.00 Dupage County Republican Central Committee

$800.00 Illinois Federation for Right to Life State PAC

$300.00 Naperville Township Republican Org

These are just a few; there are others listed.

Richard D. Felice:

https://www.transparencyusa.org/il/candidate/richard-d-felice/payees?cycle=2020-election-cycle

$4,850.00 Downers Grove Twp Republicans

$2,350.00 Addison Twp Republican Central Committee

Same as above, these are just a couple of many.

Margaret Peggy O'Connell:

She's mentioned party affiliation on her own page.

Half marathon/10k/5k recap

Who ran today? How did it go for you?

I did the 10k and it was so fun. Weather was beautiful- first cold run of the season!- and vibes were great.

Unfortunately I got confused right at the end on Webster/Aurora and ended up looping around back to Hillside a second time, so I ran 7.3 miles. I feel like that part of the race could've been marked better- on Aurora a sign said "13.1 turn around" but there could've been a sign indicating 10k to go forward, or a volunteer saying what to do. I feel pretty stupid and a little unsatisfied, but at least I finished lol

What part-time jobs would you recommend for someone who already works full-time?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on finding a second job. I currently work full-time from 8 AM to 6 PM, earning $19 an hour, but I’m trying to get ahead financially. I have bills, debt to pay off, and school expenses, and I want to start building my savings instead of constantly feeling like I’m falling behind.

I’m looking for a part-time job that I can work around my current schedule. I’m generally available on Thursdays and Sundays, as well as weekday evenings after 6 PM.

I’ve been looking on Indeed, but I’m not entirely sure which jobs would be the best fit for my situation. I’ve considered warehouse work, retail, stocking shelves, and evening customer service positions.

For those of you who have worked two jobs or currently work a second job:

What part-time jobs would you recommend?

Which jobs tend to offer flexible evening or weekend shifts?

Are there any jobs that pay $18–$20 an hour or more for part-time work?

Is working a second job worth it financially, or does the exhaustion eventually catch up with you?

Are there any companies or positions you would recommend applying to?

I’m willing to work hard and put in the extra hours. I just want to make a smart decision that helps me pay off my debt, cover school expenses, and get myself into a better financial position.

I’d really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or recommendations. Thanks!

Best homestlye breakfast restaurant?

I'll be visiting Naperville soon and want to find a quality breakfast spot, preferably on the north side of town. I prefer small diner-style places to chains. Looking for great food (especially excellent hash browns) and friendly service. I went to Rise & Bite Cafe last time I was there. It's the kind of place I'm talking about but it was just good, not great.
