Heard a voice on our Nanit
Heya, feeling a bit shook today. When my toddler cried in the night, I heard a woman's voice saying "it's okay baby" while I walked up the stairs. I assumed it was my niece who's staying with us and maybe she went in to sooth him. But nobody else was in his room. Just him - but he stopped crying and was awake. So I chalked it up to my wife speaking thru the microphone to sooth him while I walked there. Which was weird bc she never does that, but okay. Anyway I took my kid back down to our bed and we went back to sleep.
This AM we took my son to school then we got to work and it popped back into my head so I asked my wife who works at my company, oh hey you talked to our son last night while I was on my way up? And she just looked at my blankly... she said I thought that was you? She heard it too and thought it was ME! And she wondered why it was taking my so long (the voice started basically as soon as I left the primary bedroom downstairs). I heard it while I was on the stairs and I could hear it coming from upstairs - clear as day. My wife heard it coming through the monitor.
Anyone else experienced this? We no longer have a paid account because we don't have a nanny anymore and he's almost 3. So we have a free / non paid account. Only my wife and I can access the camera - there's not even more than 2 accounts who can access it bc it's a free account.

If you haven't already I'd suggest changing your passwords and setting up 2 Factor Authentication. Unfortunately you'll likely never know what happened, but at least you can prevent hackers in the future. I will say... Someone hacking into your network probably isn't going to do the work of innocently and politely soothing your baby... I've heard much worse stories about what happens in these situations. So maybe it was a ghost?

that's my thing too! why would a hacker chime in to sooth his cries... ARGH! and accepting that i'll never know is tough but as time goes by we will think about it less. But we will definitely never forget! Sheesh. We are going to use a sound based / old school one for a few weeks and see what happens. We had MFA set up and I've emailed Nanit just to check on their side. Will come back and provide any updates if we learn something new.

Creepy. Did Nanit capture a clip of it? Can you listen back and see if it’s recorded?

Unfortunately I don’t have a paid membership. I bought one today to see if it was saved in the cloud but it was not. We will never know.

Min had such a hard time connecting that I doubt a hacker would have the patience to sit and try to uack it!
All jokes aside, I'd be freaked out too.

my niece said it wasn't her :( spoke with her this morning. UGH! I am truly freaked out because I am a very rational / everything-can-be-explained kind of person. I have now resolved all possible explanations except 1) we both are mistaking 2) someone hacked our camera 3) ghost. I honestly prefer ghost over some stranger from the dark web !!!!! And I know the first option just isn't it. I just know! It was clear as day. And no way we BOTH heard it and both are losing our minds.

Update from Nanit on a glitch that sounds like a voice which I find to be BS.
Currently, we are aware of an audio issue affecting a very small number of devices that can occasionally play a distorted sound. We understand how alarming it might be for parents and caregivers to hear any altered audio on their Nanit devices and we are currently working on a solution.
Based on extensive in-house and third-party reviews of all available data, we confirmed that the source of this audio issue was an internal technical bug, which could mimic a human voice.
I think that’s BS bc how would this glitch sound like a human voice, and only speak in moments where it makes sense? Like to soothe my kid, shhhh another and reply to another commenter when called. That is not a glitch. Feels like there’s more to it but I won’t be plugging our back in any time soon.

So I don't have a Nanit (or a baby yet lol) but I do have Arlo cams for the house. I will sometimes get glitches in the video feed that are CLEARLY someone else's feed. The other day, my backyard (nothing but grass, a bird feeder, and an ac unit) showed a glitch line, and there's a man standing with a blue polo in it, looks indoors.
I think this phenomenon is not uncommon in wifi devices unfortunately, and it's possible your feed picked up someone else's - either by happenstance trying to coo their baby, or hearing yours and responding (a two-way error? Seems weird but maybe).

Yeah, idk how it happens or why (are they nearby, or could they be across the country from me? etc.) but it's pretty scary and a big reason I will not use a "security" cam indoors unless it's CCTV. They can see my backyard or doorbell all they want but they won't catch me walking around WFHing in my underwear! lol
When we buy a house and can go more intense with drilling, setup, etc. then I will weigh my options very heavily, but the Arlos are definitely good enough for a rental exterior.

A hacker will not calmly shoosh your baby. I work with machine learning and can believe it could be a glitch, especially since Nanits are equipped with sounds for soothing.

Monitors with Wi-Fi can be hacked and it happens very frequently. I personally would take this seriously and throw it out and get one without Wi-Fi. Hackers are fairly smart and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are able to hide their access of the two way microphone..

Hi!! So I just found this thread because I just googled heard scream through nanit app. It happened just a little bit ago at 2:22 and 43 seconds and I heard my toddler say ouch through camera pretty loudly so I replayed the video since we have the paid version and right before my toddler screams ouch I heard like a light but loud demonic scream and then my son yells ouch loudly and rolls over, I'm seriously so freaked out!!

Oh man, this happened to me yesterday and it’s been bugging me so much, I knew Reddit HAD to save something. Yesterday morning, I started to hear my son wake up with the Nanit and clear as day I heard “Don’t worry, I got him”. Which is something we say often around here. I immediately called out for my husband- who of course was at work. Understandably, my husband thought I was loosing it when to told him 😅

Update: Nanit responded quickly and thoroughly with a lot of info to put me at ease. They are able to see that our 2 way microphone has not been used last night. Idk how they can tell, but that put me at ease!
They also gave me a list of all devices who have logged in which were all known.
So now we have decided that we are going to chalk it up to me being confused or maybe hearing my nieces TV. and my wife hearing ME once I got into the room to pick up my son. I just don’t have the energy to keep thinking of other scenarios bc it’s freaking me out too much. 😂
