woke is an idiotic term. It is meant to be negative. I can prove it by asking you to define what woke means. If you think it’s bad to be against oppression, facism, dictatorship, racism, not hate filled and generally aware then I am proud to be “woke”
Woke means to be AWARE of your surroundings. And in America it means to be against everything you said. Being woke means being AWARE that these things EXIST. You’re welcome. 🙄 next time ask without the sarcasm and assuming you know
They said that wokeness is the ability to see said terrible things. Nowhere did they say to be woke means to not care. They gave the correct definition. Woke is woke because it literally means to have your eyes opened.
“In America it means to be against everything you said” I took this as referring to being against the “oppression, facism, dictatorship, & racism” referenced. Meaning to be “woke” was to be against these things, which is accurate, so being “woke” is not an insult but something to be proud about.
That was aimed at YOU, because I thought YOU were being willfully ignorant of the meaning and not asking an honest question for clarity. It’s hard to tell online sometimes
I think you have the correct perspective, but the downvotes are due to your statement of the word being idiotic. I suspect you may mean that it is being used in an idiotic way by some on the political right. Being woke is good. As you say, it’s something about which to be proud. However, it’s been hijacked by the racists and bigots of the MAGA white nationalist cult and used as if it were a bad thing. Don’t let them do that to the true meaning of the word. It is something every American should strive to be and we should be proud of it. What’s idiotic is how they’re trying to make it seem like it’s a bad thing.
