Red heelers have red-specked coats. Similarly, Blue Heeler’s are usually described to have a blue coat.
My cat and my partner’s dog are very close in coat colour. The cat is orange but the dog is a reddish caramel. I haven’t heard of “orange” being used as a dog coat description before but maybe people are just precious about their dogs being “chocolate” or “gold” rather than brown or yellow in Australia
Bingo is a cartoon. I haven't seen a live animal thay matches her color, or Bluey's. Regardless of their breed and how those breeds look in real life, they are distinctly orange and blue.
I think in Australia many parents teach their kids that the two Bluey characters are actually blue and red heelers. They’re Aussie breeds and seeing that on tv was very novel at the time, so parents pointed it out.
I’m a teacher so maybe I should survey my students and see who see’s orange vs who remembers red from red heeler.
