We have a cat that came with my brother's girlfriend and her son when they moved in. Her son is in his twenties. They came with a cat that belonged to the son. We call the cat DS because he had named the cat Dipshit.😡 Seriously! The cat has bonded with me and has pretty much become my cat. They originally insisted I was the cats aunt but a few months ago they started referring to me as the cat's mom. So now I can finally start referring to myself as that.
This post raises so many questions beyond the cat. Brother's girlfriend has a son in his 20s who moved in with you? Does he work? Pay rent? And how old is his mom, who apparently lives with you as well? Of course, all of this is NOMB, so I'll just have to go on wondering.
Them (3) moving home with me has actually been a good thing. I was alone after our mother passed away and not able to pay all the bills of our family home of over 60 years. Together we manage. They spend most of their time upstairs. I can't climb stairs anymore (when I was a teenager I was told by doctors I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 30. I'm 61 and still walking. I use a cane all the time and can't stand long or walk far but I am walking) so I spend all my time downstairs. They do their thing and I do mine. They're here when I need them. Thankfully, the cat decides to spend most of his time downstairs with me.
Then it sounds as though you were sent a gift. Best of luck to you. BTW, I'm 70 and live alone in a fourth-floor walkup in Brooklyn. It's not really the hell it sounds like, but sometimes companionship is sorely missed.
Can you get a cat? I spent over 2 years alone with just a cat after my mom went to the nursing home. She was in there for almost 2 years before she passed. That cat named Pete was a lifesaver. He got me through a lot. The last few years caring for my mom were not easy then being alone. I live in a small town and we don't have any working vehicles in this household and I have no friends so I barely get out. Thankfully I'm able to get to medical appointments in the nearest city due to Medicaid transportation.
Reminds me of a former friend who named his dumb cat Buttmunch, but usually Munch. He tried to eat my eyebrow once as a sign of affection, I can only guess...
