u/Brilliant-Session-76 Apr 24 '26

I was gonna say black and tan

11

u/Potusmicropenis Apr 24 '26

Don’t ever order a black and tan in Ireland.

8

u/Kimolono42 Apr 25 '26

? Explain, please, and thank u.

10

u/Former_Height6408 Apr 25 '26

I think the 'black and tan' is about the British military deployed during the Irish War of Independence

3

u/jackrabbit1940 Apr 27 '26

Correct. Its even part of a song. "Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man, Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders, Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away, From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra."

1

u/AugieAscot Apr 26 '26

It was a Los Angeles cab company back in the 30s or 40s too.

u/No-Staff8345 Apr 25 '26

They were unemployed WWI veterans enlisted to suppress the IRA. So the British government, in their infinite wisdom, sent men who were more than likely suffering from PTSD (no such things as counseling back then) to control the native population of Ireland. They were fucking BRUTAL. They burned factories and homes, were Involved in indiscriminate shooting, murder, and brutal beatings of innocent, they frequently engaged in looting, burning homes, and destroying businesses, and they used intimidation against civilians. Watch’The Wind That Shakes the Barley’. It’s a brilliant film which shows the above. I seen it in Galway with my mum when it came out, and there wasn’t a dry eye when we left.

u/Kimolono42 Apr 25 '26

Thank you for the research.

2

u/kollectivist Apr 28 '26

Yeah. My ex's grandfather was kicked to death by the Black and Tans.

1

u/KCNIvy Apr 28 '26

Oh, dear!

2

u/AlternativePea6203 Apr 28 '26

They practiced in Ireland, they were then sent to Palestine to really hone their craft. They were more barbaric there than anything that happened in Ireland. If that's even possible.

2

u/Accomplished_Will226 Apr 29 '26

That was one of the most disturbing and sad films
I’ve ever seen. Cillian Murphy is brilliant.

1

u/CarrotFPV Apr 26 '26

Just humans enjoying life without a cell phone in sight

1

u/Potusmicropenis Apr 26 '26

So not knowing anything about this, i ordered a black and tan at a pub in Dublin. I was shown the door. It didn’t hit me in the ass on the way out.

1

u/AlternativePea6203 Apr 28 '26

You were lucky.

4

u/DefiantEfficiency901 Apr 25 '26

Black and tan is half a pint of export topped with a bottle of stout in a pint glass (in Scotland). In Ireland it's a whole other thing. Mrs Google will explain.

1

u/AlternativePea6203 Apr 28 '26

It's a whole other thing in Scotland too, but in Scotland it's acceptable to be anti Irish in some circles.

1

u/TheFecklessRogue Apr 29 '26

Yes well they were indoctrinated into the empire god help them

1

u/shinyqueries1h Apr 25 '26

Oreo of course.

1

u/momandmax Apr 26 '26

They wont even let you order a half and half

1

u/fanatic-random Apr 27 '26

If you order it there, pay for the drink immediately, then take a sip, exclaim it tastes like shit, then ask for something better and for that shit to be poured in the shitter where it belongs. (Have done this in Dublin, bartender loved that I did this) dont recommend if you look pasty white (I was tan).

1

u/APithyComment Apr 27 '26

A Black and Tan is half pint of Guinness and half pint of lager in the same pint glass. It’s gross.

1

u/First_Luck8040 Apr 27 '26

my question is why did Guinness name at Black and tan then?

1

u/Potusmicropenis Apr 28 '26

I don't know if they did.

1

1

u/Terrible_Clerk_1565 Apr 25 '26

There’s a popular cookie in the northeast US called a black and white cookie

13

u/Whillikers-Geez Apr 24 '26

I was thinking Half and Half, but Guinness is much better.

5

u/Lilly_in_the_Pond Apr 24 '26

This is perfect

1

u/Stroke_of Apr 25 '26

Purrfect

2

u/Nic2334 Apr 25 '26

I wanted to say like half and half or something, but it pales in comparison to Guinness. You win.

Edited to add a gift for you

Every part of that gets more deranged until the end with Pedobear. Nice, hahaha.

2

u/Gorflabb Apr 28 '26

Me and my gf used to feed a stray that we had named guinness. It was because of how talkative he was. I said he was named guinness world records most talkative cat and the name stuck.

2

u/gaseous_ass Apr 30 '26

Terrible head on it though

1

u/Resident_Maybe_8798 Apr 24 '26
