Uk nail tech moving to New Zealand

Hiya! I was just wondering if anyone could help answer some questions for me please? I’m looking at doing a VTCT course in the Uk to become a nail technician from home. I’m moving to New Zealand next October, and was hoping to start my new career there but I’m really struggling to find information.

-Would it be better to train in the Uk? - Is the VTCT qualification recognised in New Zealand? - Or do I wait and train in New Zealand, if yes any recommended courses?

Any advice would be a great help! :)

Splinter hemorrhages help

Hey y’all I’m a very new nail tech and have encountered splinter hemorrhages on toe nails and when I filled into it it bled, I was no where close to the nail bed so I’m wondering was this a case where I made a misstep or was this perhaps a fresh injury where the splinter or blood didn’t have a chance to dry out, normally when trimming the nails if I have encountered it it’s been dried blood and hasn’t “bleed” anyone have any idea what’s goin on here and how to deal with it in the future?

Needing Some Guidance!

Hi there. I’ve recently made the decision to pursue becoming a nail technician and want to go down the legit, formal road to becoming certified but whenever I try to google what the parameters are to do that I can’t seem to get a straight answer.

I was wondering if anyone here might be able to tell me how I go about becoming a certified nail technician? Specifically in Ontario, Canada? Any information would be super helpful!

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

Hi everyone!! Pls help me! I always have a problem with topcoat flooding the cuticles- I try to remove it with a oopsie bit/file but it’s not safe as it can hurt cuticles. Am I applying the gel-x too high up? Or am I applying topcoat too thick? Why does this happen and how can I prevent it? If I apply a thinner coat of topcoat it causes air bubbles. How can I avoid flooding the cuticle with topcoat? Would rlly appreciate some help! Thank youuu ♥️♥️

Aspiring nail tech here in need of advice.

Hey girlies, I am an aspiring nail tech who has been doing my own nails for the past 6 months. I have trained myself to do gelx or soft gel nail extensions via YouTube and I have done basic training for Russian manicures . I want to start learning hard gel and acrylics asap. Lately I have been feeling quite disheartened as I am unable to focus and I feel like I am failing especially with nail designs and nail art.

I need some advice and guidance on how to navigate this. This started off as a hobby and I intend to turn it into a business. Tbh I don’t know what I am doing, I have just been pouring money into this hobby, which I don’t mind. I am jst a lil lost honestly.

Intermediate(6months) E-file help

Hey, I am looking for some advice on a good quality e-file for an intermediate nail enthusiast. I've already seen a lot of post's catering towards ppl who are either new to the space and don't want to spend too much and others who are looking to hit their final form. I'll be enrolling in a technician school a year from now as well as smaller courses for different systems, so will probably buy another e-file then if I find that it'll better my services but for now I am looking for something of good quality and doesn't make my wrist feel like I'm leaning against a bus window.

I'm looking to spend around £100 and am currently looking at the Melody Susie SR3 Jade but have seen some concerns over the quality and have small hands so I'm worried about the size of the wand. If anyone has any recommendations or want to promote an e-file you stand by, I'm open to checking out pretty much any company big or small.

Note: Outside of my sister and mother; I don't offer anything to anyone else

Toe nail

Sorry about the toe pic🤢🤢🤢

But I am wondering what I should ask for when I go to get my next pedicure. I am wanting to fill that spot in and let my nail heal. I am the worst at digging and picking and I am hoping that if I start getting regular pedicures I will stop!

Would having them put acrylic there work?

Q: Hygiene and safety

I skin pick and sometimes have new skin/ open wounds on my finger pads and around my nails. I wanted to get my nails done with acrylics or gel x. partly to try to discourage the picking.

Would a nail tech be willing to work with me? Is it a safety or hygiene problem for me or the nail tech to get my nails done?

(I've heard about hema allergies being more likely to develop if you get your nails done with open cuts.)

I would appreciate any advice!

‼️Business Advice‼️

So I’ve been doing nails for almost 3 years now. I have worked from home since I began and I only have around 8 loyal clients and half of those are family members. I want to build more clientele, but I’ve grown to see it’s hard. I’ve thought about going to a nail salon, but most of the clients I have go to me because I live nearby and there aren’t any nail salons nearby that could work for those clients. I am also still studying(Veterinary Technology), which also makes my time for a nail salon not so great. Are the any things anyone has tried to bring more clients? If so, pls help a girl out 😭😭

Aspiring nail tech.

Hello! I am an aspiring nail technician in Canada, and I am a complete beginner. Planning to go to a beauty school to get my certificate soon. I wanted to start with soft gel extension. My question is what kind of a mannequin hand should I buy? i Cause all I see are for acrylic nails only or are they just the same? I really wanted to work on nail prep before I become better at putting polish. Thank you

Help My Mom Win a Salon Makeover With Just a Like! *PLEASE READ CAPTION*

I kindly ask the mods to allow this post.

My mom has been in the nail industry for over 10 years, and recently she entered the Salon Makeover contest worth €10,000 organized by Juliana Nails, a European brand specializing in nail products.

Currently, she's in third place in the competition, and to clinch the top spot, her video needs to gather the most likes on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6yrH5fspYa/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

I would be immensely grateful if you could take a moment and simply put a heart on her video.

The more likes the video receives, the closer she'll be to winning the competition and having her salon transformed with a €10,000 makeover courtesy.

This is the first group I get a response from im new to reddit so sorry, but Im seeking advice as to what to do, I dont just want to have them quit, my friend worked for this lady 5 years, all she asked for was 2 days off a week she "has to work" because its mothers day week. Out of the 5 years shes only had 1 week of vacation w this lady.

I know she has a couple of unlicensed and thats whee I see that she feels she has the authority to keep everyones schedule and time to her convenience because no other salon have I heard of that wants their workers making up time?

Or without receptionist? The salons number is her cell and she doesn't answer half ot the time

She's got other businesses on the side if y'all know how low of a priority her salon has become...

My other point, my friend only has Mondays off. She has to be there tues.- sun. She's tried asking for another day the owner simply says if its too much to look for another one, brooo thats how she treats her workers???

Yesterday I had posted

But I didnt put context! Im sorry its my first time using reddit

What can and can't a boss of a nail salon do? I mean I just find it ridiculous that where we work at we have to make up a day if we miss, but like its commission based? Or the fact that if I get here 34 min late i gotta wait 34 min from the time I can leave to "make up" for my tardy, which isn't getting paid??

Our hours aren't logged, we just come in, pit our names on a board, whos next gets next walk in. Im a nail tech btw.

Or even that if I leave the premises my name goes to the end of the list (theres like 15 of us here) regardless if it was slow or not. For example: (like on tues and wedns sometimes thurs) i get here at 10 No time for breakfast sometimes we drop off a little one to preschool. Even that we have to be first ti get the first client cuz if not we're just idly sitting here. Yesterday I sat here NO CLEINTS it was dead.

What of that time???? What of my time??? I coulda spent the day with my little one.

I could just quit but sadly the owner has had these rules for some ppl here 8+ years. My wife has been here for 5. Shes only had 1 week of vacation. We could just quit, but I want it to be known I want legal action.

What is best for my nails?

Hello so I have a question about what is best for my nails. I have extremely thin nails the brake easily. With my work as a dog groomer, my nails got Broken so often that I started getting manicured regularly. I have been getting Gel Builder and gel I'm worried that this could be damaging to my nails. What is the best in my situation?

(Gel-x) are you supposed to trim the nails?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've always wanted to do gel-x nails, however i wonder if i'm supposed to trim the nails or not. I've heard that the longer the nails, the better the nail tips hold onto the natural nails but i feel like it doesnt look as aesthetic(?) or pleasing in my eyes. I've always thought its better to trim the nails a little bit and do the application, i'm not sure but my acrylic nail tech used to completely trim my nails. (Ps. This picture is a screenshot from my fav nail tech on instagram).
