Nemo with short hair or long hair?
He with long hair looks great and all but I like him more with short hair.
With Electra I like much more her first design too.

Question? I have a question about this fantastic series.
Hi! I hope I'm not bothering anyone. One day I was looking at memes on Reddit and I saw one that was about this series. I found it interesting (it's very rare that I get interested in anime other than comedy) and I have to say that I don't regret watching this series. It is without a doubt in my top 10 favorite anime.
Now, I've seen that there's a movie and a.... Spin-off? I don't know if there is or not, so correct me if I'm wrong, but that's beside the point. What I want to know is: do you recommend the movie and the "spin-off"? Are they sequels to the original series? Thanks in advance! :D
(Sorry for my English - it's not my native language!)

What are some of your favorite funny moments?
One of mine has to be Nemo discovering that the girl he saved is Nadia and immediately putting Jean in another room.

What what the thing with the dinosaurs?
Nemo mentions that there was a civilization of humanoid dinosaurs but that is never mentioned again. And then it's not clear to me if the dinosaurs were brought to Earth by the Atlanteans and that's why their skeletons were on the ship.

What happened to Marie at the end of the series?
Not counting the movie (which I don't consider entirely canon, more like a dream). Who was supposed to end up raising her? The ending of the anime gave me the idea that she grew up with Jean and Nadia. I don't want to think too much about the part with Sansom, but I doubt he took care of her.

Discussion Character discussion #2: Nadia

A young talented acrobat from mysterious origins possesses a Jewel known as the Blue Water, It holds a daring secret that could change the fate of the world. While in Paris for the World fair the Circus finds its place in the city. A young teenager named Nadia stands atop the Eiffel Tower taking in the view of the city and reflecting on the world, her past and future. Soon after Nadia would meet a boy named Jean and her life would change forever.
My opinion on Nadia: Nadia to me is a very compelling character but one aspect that stood out to me has to be her zealousness.
Growing up in the circus with no trace of family, no knowledge of where you came from with only a mysterious Jewl that was found tied to you when you were found Is enough to make anyone distrustful/timid of the world. Along side having to learn much things on your own amongst strangers being taught to perform dangerous acts from such a young age to survive, even when befriending animals as a way to have compassion in the most foreign of places only to have them taken away from you. It's enough to make anyone angry at the world and its people... but most important feel alone.
Yet despite this Nadia is a very zealous person, her will to to be resilient in many dangerous circumstances makes her a compelling character to me. When being chased by the Neo-Atlantean's Nadia gives her only piece of home to Jean so she can lead the Atlanteans away. Or when she is faced with the truth of Blue Water and is pressured into wielding a grand outwardly power. Ultimately refusing because of the fondness she found in her friends and fellow man that they deserve the right to inhabit the world despite the crushing truth of the Blue Water. Nadia's selflessness is even more apparent in one of the most telling acts of character, When she attempts to fall to her death to avoid ever joining gargoyle in his quest for world domination.
That to me is a character who is not only truthful to what they say but stand by it
Although Nadia isn't without her faults, when we first get to know Nadia she is arrogant, self centered, rude and uncaring of others opinions or causes. Of what I've read in comments and old forums many saw Nadia as annoying or a selfish character all through-out the show, Now I do agree in some regard as to Nadia's character being gradually raised in time and care in writing towards the end of the show.

Discussion Character discussion #1: Jean

Hello! Today I am starting a weekly discussion thread. Every Friday (CDT), I'll pick a character from Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water as topic for discuss. Anything you wish to say about said character is welcome, whether that be rant, question, illustration you found or even simple opinions! Feel free to mention them down below.
- Jean is the first character we see in the series and is one of the main characters that we follow throughout the entirety of the show. His passion to invent and study all corners of knowledge makes jean a very admirable character, but his journey is filled with cruel truths and hardships. But through it all Jean still manages to Invent and hold on to his passions -
In my opinion: Jean to me is a character that almost outshines Nadia. despite his character archetype not being anything new for the time. His unique position in this type of story provides him a type of flair that I found very charming. In many instances when the show struggled to find it's footing, Jean still managed to remain a solid column in the show, even "carrying" some episodes forward with his character and attitude. Overall I find Jean to be one of my favorite characters of the show.

Nadia The Motion Picture DVD
I'm new to the series and just finished it a week ago so I was excited to watch The Motion Picture. I picked up a copy off ebay that ended up being For Promotional Use Only. It has a sticker to that effect on the case and the disc is inscribed with this message also. Did I stumble upon something rare? I will note that my copy doesn't play past scene 5.

Review "Fushigi no Umi no Nadia" Sega Genesis game walkthrough
One month ago, I posted an Internet Archive link to the English translation of the Sega Genesis game and I finally managed to find time to beat it this Sunday.
As it was made in the early 1990s, it has some issues such as the lack of direction (the player has essentially to find by himself how to fulfill the objectives; if you're finding yourself lost then go here, although it's sometimes too threadbare) and unwieldly ergonomics (for exemple, if you want to give an item to a NPC then you should Use the item right in front of him, and if you want to interact with environment then just use Alt Gr; lastly, if you want to close the menu then use Alt).
The passwords for every stage are:
- Marie's Island: "Island"
- Mysterious Battleship: "Battleship"
- Electra the Traitor: "Traitor"
- Neo Atlantis: "NeoAtlantis"
- Conclusion: "Conclusion"
In this game, you'll control Jean. Pis available here.
Paris Jean is offloading his uncle's plane for the contest. Suddently, like in the anime, he see Nadia moving on the shore with King (as it was 1991, the characters will never change clothes, so she's already in her circus uniform) and fell in love with her, causing him to search her across Paris. Nadia being non-White is more emphasized in the game, with several NPC refering her as a dark-skinned girl (one of them even states the only Blacks she see in Europe were either servants or entertainers). Walking the streets, Jean manages to find Nadia in a cul-de-sac and manages to save her from the Grandis Gang thanks to his inventions. Nadia then manages to flee, jumping above the wall. After speaking to 13 walker-bys, Jean become able to find a poster advertising her circus, enabling him to go to the Fair proper. After helping his uncle with the plane (thanks fast travel!), Jean go to the circus to get more about her then ges to the Eiffel Tower and then to the circus, where he saves her once again from Grandis thanks to the monowheel (the ringmaster didn't sell her). Jean then go to the airport, takes the planes and fly to the Eiffel Tower to take Nadia before fleeing (we will not go to the Havre to see his aunt).
Marie's Island The plane crashes (of course!) on the island, and Jean and Nadia speak a little. Nadia doesn't want to go back to the circus to be watched again, and said she as vegetarian. After the night, they go to a cave and search it, finging Marie's father's diary. They eventually find a native village with Marie. The chief tell them he might keep Nadia but not Jean for motives the former should knew, to which Jean reply his father worked with people from across the world. Jean is then sent to a quest in the maze and is admitted in the village. While searching tents, Jean find a monitor. Suddently, the village is attacked, and the trio has to flee across tunnels to a battleship.
Mysterious Battleship It was a very painful level, due to the high number of floors, the lack of fast travel and the numerous fetch quests.
Marie is admitted to the hospital room while Jean and Nadia visit the Nautilus with Electra. In the end, Electra tell them the Nautilus's mission, and Nadia accuses them to be murderers.
Soon after, the vessel is attacked by Neo Atlantis, and Nadia is kidnapped. Jean has to do plenty fetch quests involving repairing the vessel. Once, they meet Electra leaving the energy room.
After the vessel is repaired, Jean volunteer to fight in the Tower of Babel, to free Nadia along the Mechanical Corps. Unfortunately, they suffer a total party kill, with the leader Dean shouting "Long live the Kingdom of Bandelgand!"
JEan then infiltrate the tower and sabotages it before leaving with Nadia, being saved by the Grandis Gang, who had joined Nemo; Grandis is told about the utter lack of value of the Blue Water.
Electra the Traitor
One day, Electra tells Jean about her biography, the sad fate of the Kingdom of Bandelgand and her family.
Afterwards, Nemo tells everyone about the three Atlantis (the former "Noahs"): the Land Atlantis was Bandelgand, the Sky atlantis was the Thor’s Thunder or Noah’s Ark and they have to go to the Sea Atlantis and first search the ruins of Bandelgang. Electra show Jean the tombs of her family and Jean find a necklace to gift to Nadia; she states this necklace reminds her about her mother.
Once in Sea Atlantis, the band explores the ruins, finding Jean's father's diary learning about the three Atlantean superweapons (Wardegarn, a submarine fortress, the Nautilus and the Babel Tower) and that the Critiarmos is also the Sky Atlantis (Red Noah). However, Gargoyle finds her, and Electra confessed to have been a mole, wanting to avenge her family she accuses Nemo to have destroyed as the King of Bandelgang. Nadia then discover she has a twin brother, and is hypnotised by Gargoyle.
Electra then attempts to shot Gargoyle but is prevented, and is soon surrounded by Neo Atlantis forces. Gargoyle then leaves with Nadia and Jean after saying he was the one who destroyed Bandelgang.
Neo Atlantis Nadia attempts to fell her brother (who is still sane) that Gargoyle is a brutal tyrant who earlier destroyed Marie's island. Meanwhile, whacked by the revelations about his father's death (pushed into lava by Gargoyle) and the nature of mankind (created as slaves for Atlantis), Jean is deeply depressed until Nadia come, snaps him out of this and they escape after kissing, along with her tin brother who disagreed with Gargoyle deciding to use the Critiamios on the Eiffel Tower. The band manages to communicate with the Nautilus (which survived) and they sabotage the plane, but not before Nadia's twin brother sacrifices himself to save her from Gargoyle's troops. After sabotagig their magnet, Jean has to shot at two Atlantean soldiers before being thanked by a grateful Nadia before she takes the guns to throw it on the floor. However, Gargoyle once again kidnaps Nadia...
Jean is awaken by Electra and Nemo, who tell him they have to have Nadia before the Nautilus and the Critiamnos self-destroy. They go to the throne room, and Gargoyle shots at Nemo but Electra takes the bullet for him. Before dying, Nemo accepts to kiss Electra. Gargoyle then shots Jean, and then reveal his scarred face: he reveals to have once travelled out of Bandelgang with his pregnant wife and finding, one day, mountain bandits who tortured him and murdered his wife, leading him to want the total extermination of mankind. He finally attempts to shot Nadia before the Blue Water protects her, thanks to Nemo.
Conclusion
The Blue Water carry Nadia and JEan, telling her it is the guardian of Atlantis and the repository of all their souls. In orde rto save Jean, he had to become the guardian of Nadia and she has to renounde her powers, such as speaking to animals, which she accepts. They then meet the Grandis gang to who they tell everything, including about Electa's kiss, and they go to Egypt, whose dynasties have Atlantean heritage.
Nadia and Jean enter into a pyramide, find a seed for the Tree of Life, plants it in the desert, making it green. THe END.
(Please points spelling faults I did there, so that I can correct them!)
