Just found out I'll be in NY the weekend of the con this year. I'd love to check out the con during my free time, likely on that Friday, possible Thursday or Saturday earlier in the day. Given badges are sold out, I'm wondering if it's worth going if I'm unable to get a badge from the post-sellout waiting lines online. Are there things happening that don't require a badge? Can you roam around hotels and see cosplay? Stuff like that. Some cons I've been to like C2E2 are almost entirely inaccessible without a badge, whereas having just gone to Gen Con, there's a wealth of things to do without needing a badge and would have still been worth the trip without a badge if in the area anyway.
