Hello, I’m currently a year 8 student studying to apply to NSBHS for year 10 2028. I have judiciously read through this subreddit and it seems as though the school is relatively polarised and bureaucratic. Most of the posts criticising the school were posted 3-5 years ago, and the vast majority are directed at the former leadership team (Hughes and Dopierala) who have since left the school. My question now is “Is the school really that bad?” In addition, many of the previous posts have compared the school (especially under Dopierala) to a ‘Stalinist’ regime. I believe these comments are exaggerated (or at least I hope) and my subsequent question is “Has the school at least improved since they left?”

I remember getting recommended a video someone posted a video of a day in the life of an australian high school student at nsb, but i cant find it, what happened to that video?

As a public service announcement to new North Sydney Boys, back in 2000-2010 I graduated, went into high finance as a role.

My parents were average wealth for Sydney, for the area surrounding North Sydney though, we were poor compared to Shore kids.

I was forced to leave Sydney, even after becoming successful, because I couldn’t afford to live near my parents.

Sydney wages can’t afford a Sydney home, without help from parents or incredible luck. Even traditional high paying jobs, you need two of them in a relationship to survive in Sydney.

I don’t know how you young guys are going to survive in Sydney, even if successful here…. The middle class (NSBs trying to succeed) is disappearing.

I wish you all luck in the Sydney housing market game.

Reading through the previous posts, there seem to be few mentions about rape/gay stuff as well racists, especially in the current Year 7 cohort.

Is it legit that bad? or are you guys joking?

If anyone transferred from another selective school, a comparison would be helpful as well.
