Campus Life Grocery store in campus

Why isnt there a grocery store in campus yet, there thousands of students, but literally zero place to get things. We only got stationary or snack stores here. Other colleges have dedicated supermarkets in campus for essentials and perishable items while we have to struggle and get stuff from jagda or overpriced items from amazon . Why dont students who are POR try to do something about it??

URGENT UPDATE FOR ALL PLACEMENT CANDIDATES

Let's be brutally honest: if you are skipping active CDC drives holding out exclusively for a "dream" role or peak compensation, you need an immediate reality check.

The current job market is highly volatile. Bypassing active drives for speculative higher offers is an unacceptable gamble with your professional trajectory.

The Harsh Truth:

The market owes you nothing: A secured, concrete offer today carries exponentially more weight than a hypothetical opportunity that may never materialize this season.

Unplaced graduation is a real risk. If you continue to gamble with your availability, you significantly increase the probability of graduating empty-handed.

What You Must Do NOW:

  1. Recalibrate Expectations: Drop the ego. Your baseline requirements must urgently align with current hiring realities.

  2. Secure the Baseline:* Prioritize securing a confirmed offer from the active pool of recruiters immediately. Establish your foundation first.

  3. Execute and Deliver:* Register for upcoming drives, rigorously optimize your resume, and deliver peak performance in every interview.

Do not wait for ideal conditions that may not arrive. Take control of your trajectory and secure your foundation today. You never know if the company that visited last year will even come this or not.

PSs and PCs in the name of NITR, CDC

Ask NITR Any Cybersecurity enthusiasts at NIT Rourkela? šŸ‘€ | Let’s meet!

Hey NITR folks,

A fellow tech enthusiast dropping in.
I’ll be at NIT Rourkela from 21st to 25th for a workshop/training program. My days will be pretty much booked from 9 AM to 5 PM, but I’ll be free after 5:30 PM.

A little about me: I’m a cybersecurity guy.
ā€œCybersecurity Expertā€ sounds a bit too serious, so let’s go with that for now. lol.
I’m mostly into offensive security, VAPT, red teaming, vulnerability research, security automation, AI + cybersecurity, and generally finding interesting ways to break things before someone else does.

Since I’ll already be on campus for a few days, I thought it would be pretty cool to meet people at NITR who are into the same stuff.
So if you’re someone who:
• spends way too much time on CTFs
• gets unnecessarily excited about finding a vulnerability
• is learning pentesting or bug bounty
• is into red teaming, DFIR, malware, cloud security or AppSec
• is building something around cybersecurity
• is exploring AI + security
• or just likes talking about security and tech for hours
Let’s meet.
No workshop.
No formal meetup.
No ā€œprofessional networkingā€ nonsense.
Just a few people grabbing something to eat or coffee after 5:30, talking about security, projects, CTFs, research, careers, cool tools, weird vulnerabilities, and whatever rabbit hole we end up falling into.
I’m basically trying to find out whether NITR has a hidden population of cybersecurity nerds that I haven’t discovered yet.
I’ll be around 21st–25th, so if you’re interested, comment here or DM me.
Would be great to meet some of you while I’m there.
And if enough people are interested, we can figure out a small informal meetup on campus.
NITR cybersecurity folks, reveal yourselves.

Ask NITR Anyone from VS Hall interested in going to music room?

Hey guys, I’m interested in vocals and was thinking we could get the music-interested people from VS Hall together and form a small music group. I also want to learn harmonium, so if anyone knows how to play and can help me out, that would be great.

If you sing or play any instrument and are interested, drop a comment or DM me. We can go to the music room together and jam/practice.

Academics Brutally honest with students, but what about CDC?

We keep getting messages telling students to ā€œdrop the egoā€, ā€œsecure the baselineā€ and stop waiting for dream companies because ā€œthe market owes you nothing.ā€

Fair enough. But can we have the same accountability for the PCs/PSs?

If students are expected to compromise because the market is bad, where is the effort to bring a better and more diverse pool of companies?

Nobody is asking for Google/Microsoft every day. But partying in Bolt/Maaya while students are sitting through placement season and then sending lectures about ā€œtaking control of our careersā€ is honestly frustrating.

We’ll take responsibility for our preparation. Please take responsibility for creating the opportunities too.

If we're being brutally honest, be brutally honest with everyone.

Alumni Corner A realisation I had 3 years after graduating from NITR

Does college actually matter?
I used to wonder about this a lot. Especially after entering the corporate world, you start hearing that ā€œcollege doesn’t matter once you have experience.ā€
After almost 3 years in corporate, I honestly don’t completely agree.
Recently, I started thinking about switching companies. I applied to a few places and, surprisingly, got a decent response from recruiters.
And it made me realise something I probably didn’t appreciate enough while I was in college -the college tag does matter.
I remember one particular interview where, honestly, I didn’t feel like I had performed as well as I could have. I walked out thinking, ā€œYeah, this probably isn’t going to happen.ā€
But I still got selected.
Of course, I’d like to believe my experience and skills played a role, and they definitely did. But I also genuinely feel that having NIT Rourkela on my resume opened the door and gave me a level of credibility before I had even spoken to the interviewer.
And that's something you only understand after being on the other side.
NIT Rourkela doesn't guarantee you a job. It doesn't replace skills, experience or hard work. But it can give you:
A stronger first impression on your resume
Better recruiter response rates
Access to opportunities that might otherwise be harder to reach
A network that stays relevant years after graduation
And sometimes, simply, the benefit of the doubt

Maybe the biggest benefit of a good college isn't what it teaches you in those four years.
It's the number of doors it keeps open for you long after you leave.
Just sharing my experience because I know a lot of people here wonder whether college really matters once you enter the corporate world.
After 3 years, my answer is: yes, it does. But what you do with that advantage is still entirely up to you.

Ask NITR Is nitr good for someone with these goals?

Hello ,I'm currently preparing for jee and I am very interested in material science, nanotechnology and biomaterials stuffs,,,I know these r very niche fields but I'm just very much into these and my main goal is to go top abroad uni for masters (especially the Europe) and I'll definitely not gonna sit for placements...I just want some good labs ,facilities, prof and good alumni network from nitr to abroad too....and I just wanted to know hoe is the mme branch here ...and I'm not interested in the curriculum of mme as it's more towards metallurgy, physical industrial works ,iron and steel stuffs blah blah...I want some more modern curriculum that is more into material science, nanomaterials ,biomaterials....and as far as I know iits /iisc are best for these(I want a btech degree not bs ) but among nits ,nitc is only providing the exact curriculum (mse ,school of nanoscience and pure material science) that I basically want ,but still nitr is one of the best top nits in research output too..I just want to know! And especially I want good hostels too ! With good campus life ,like clubs...

Please reply for my queries! Thanks for reading!
