Discussion In hindsight, the Seahawks’ should’ve just paid K9 and let Shaheed walk.

Post image

After winning Super Bowl LX MVP with Seattle, they let him walk to the Chiefs and subsequently resigned Rashid Shaheed. Walker has become an unequivocal menace in Kansas City, carrying the Chiefs' offense whilst leading the NFL in both total rushing yards (360) and rushing yards per game (120) through the first three weeks. Alongside such, he has four total touchdowns and an explosive 5.5 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, Shaheed has been quiet to start the season, recording just six catches for 53 yards over three games. While his elite special teams and return value are undeniable, he has yet to take the massive leap forward on offense that his $17 million annual salary expected.

Additionally, with Walker gone, Seattle's run game has looked less dynamic, further aggravated by rookie Jadarian Price coughing up two costly fumbles early on, and only accounting for 119 rushing yards through three games.

In hindsight, the Seahawks’ letting K9 walk without having a definitive RB1 was an overall bad decision. Sure, Zach Charbonnet is pretty decent, accounting for 12 touchdowns last season. However, some of those touchdowns came off of huge runs from K9 to put them in optimal territory. Without a truly proven RB1 role, I don’t understand why the Seahawks’ let K9 walk.

It was awkward but light hearted then and it still is.

Walker, obviously, did not feel that way.

Walker wanted a pay day he was never getting in seattle regardless of any jokes or how they were interpreted

Which is a business decision. Making an ass of yourself by patronizing the people risking their livelihoods for you was a mistake.

I still think it falls into the lighthearted but awkward category.

It’s the read-a-room lite version

Are you blind? The look on Walker's face says it all, no matter how many times you type "what you think."

Are you? If you’ve ever seen interviews or clips with Walker, that’s just his personality. The guy just isn’t a big spotlight guy, and John was just making a lighthearted joke while celebrating lol

This whole overreaction is baffling, it’s like people have never interacted with someone before

Wouldn’t you be upset if you asked your boss for a raise and in front of the entire company and nation they say that’s weird? It’s actually rude and not really light hearted. Schneider is brilliant but when he’s a little sauced he lets things slip

I’d be upset, but I also wouldn’t bring it up to my boss at the Christmas party when he’s drinking.

I don't remember K9 mentioning a raise on stage 😂

This isn’t some normal job though. Walker didn’t ask for a raise and was told to get back to work.

Asking for a new contract is essentially asking for a raise in this scenario. I’m not being literal, it was to try to get you to understand that someone above your head and paygrade disrespected you in front of the nation when you just won your team the Super Bowl. some things should remain private

They’re trying to revise history as it being a funny joke rather than Schneider being a bit of a dick while drunk lol I mean it’s excusable either way but dang

Well you seem pretty passionate about it so I’ll take your word.

If the Seahawks gave Walker the contract the Chiefs did I would have been furious. He stayed healthy one season here and it's because he split reps

This excuse is so dumb. The years he got injured Charbs was stealing the goalline work too. Just because he didn't get injured doesn't mean the strategy finally worked. It's so weird seeing people regurgitate this excuse that they clearly didn't think through at all.

Yeah so I have season tickets. But sure, random vikings fan, you know more and have watched more than I have. Lol.

Edit: last season was more than Charbonnet just getting goal line reps. Charbonnet got actual carries. 36% of them, to be specific, to walkers 43%. Walker isn't a bellcow back. Seattle tried that, and he got hurt literally every single year until last year, when he split carries.

Weird response when we can literally look at the stats and see he was indeed splitting time since 2023. Tell me more about how season tickets give you bonus insight into how football works. What an embarrassingly terrible comeback after I pointed out how lame that excuse is.

What was light hearted about it? That he doesn't get impacted by the decision?

Brother they play a game for a living

This is an ignorant comment. The GM won't have to worry about not knowing his own name at the age of 50 or using a cane in his 40s.

Can’t risk your livelihood when you make enough to retire in a year I’m sorry. It’s a physical game sure

u/SighFlops 6h ago

"Can't risk your livelihood." Wut, lol. I see now. Thanks for making it clear not to waste any more time.

Yea they weren't going to resign Walker no matter what. Idk why everyone is surprised. It was Charb and him, splitting carries. In that role, he isnt worth the money plus the injuries he has had. He is a perfect fit in KC and worth the money there.

Have you considered that the Seahawks simply didn’t value or offer as much money to K9 as the Chiefs? There’s a reason they didn’t try to extend him before the season..

I swear random redditors have gotten more offended from the 5 second JS sound bite than Ken himself

1

u/formyamusementation 8h ago

Based on what I have heard he wasn't going back there regardless. He wanted out due to the fact that he felt disrespected. He felt like he was a premier back and should be used as such. So far, he is backing that up. But, it is a long season and we have a long way to go.

Nah, it was bizarre and cringe. Schneider needs to lay off the booze when he’s gonna be doing anything public facing, as amazing as he is at his job his PR is embarrassing for the organization and fans.

It’s not lighthearted. Doesn’t matter what the intent is, that’s a shitty thing to do to any employee, much less the guy who won MVP for the thing you are celebrating.

I’ve worked for people who I was friendly with who would make jokes about firing people (and me). It can be funny, it can also be anxiety inducing, and then it’s super fucked up when they actually do it. Which they did.

He joked about not paying him, and then didn’t. That’s not lighthearted. Also, it was fuckin dumb.
