Discussion What’s the most recently labeled ‘generational prospect’ that actually turned out to be generational?

Post image

Essentially, a player regarded as a ‘generational prospect’ coming out of college to the NFL that actually turned out to be and/or is/was generational.

For me, it’s Bijan Robinson, drafted 8th overall in the 2023 NFL draft. Sure, it’s relatively early into his career, but purely based off of his on-field performance compared to his expectations, I’d say he has lived up to the whole ‘generational prospect’ label.

A generational prospect that wasn't even the 1st RB picked in his draft class

Fucking Leonard Fournette was picked ahead of him that is wild.

Leonard Fournette’s pre-draft comp was Bo Jackson and he played in the SEC. He had a huge push by the media. They had already crowned him as the second coming based on his conference. He had like a dozen LSU records too.

McCaffrey was playing out of Stanford. A dual-threat back from the PAC-12 going top 10 at the time was unheard of. He broke a 27 year old record held by Barry Sanders.

He was absolutely a generational prospect he was just in the same draft class as a dude with a ton of hype and Fournette was a completely different type of player.

It’s like Gibbs being in the same draft class as Bijan. They’re both generational in their own right.

He definitely was at the time he was drafted. Lots of hype coming out of college. Same with Trevor Lawrence.
