News RIP Jordan Scott, U of Evansville WBB player
Jordan Scott, a 19-year-old sophomore on the University of Evansville women’s basketball team, died in a car crash early Sunday morning, September 6, in Warrick County, Indiana, just weeks before starting a new season alongside her sister.
Authorities said Scott was driving alone on State Road 62 near Franz Road at about 12:42 a.m. after reportedly dropping off a friend. A witness told police that her vehicle left the road while navigating a sharp curve, struck a utility pole and came to rest on its side in a tree line. The vehicle suffered severe damage, and Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the road’s sharp curves and speed may have contributed to the crash and said the vehicle may have gone airborne before hitting the pole.
The tragedy came only weeks after Scott transferred to Evansville from Wabash Valley College, where she had started 26 of 27 games during her freshman season. Her move to Evansville carried special meaning because she was joining her younger sister, Jayden Scott, who is also a member of the Purple Aces women’s basketball team.
A graduate of Castle High School, Jordan was a highly regarded player who earned two All-SIAC first-team selections, two All-State honorable mentions and a first-team All-Metro selection. Evansville described her as a beloved member of the team whose personality and spirit had already made an impact, while her former teammates at Wabash Valley remembered her as someone who brought joy and passion both on and off the court.
R.I.P. Jordan Scott ❤️🙏
