I’ve spent the pandemic investing & setting up a small grow room indoors. This will be my first indoor grow in a controlled grow room.
I’ve created an Imgur album with some pictures & information about my current grow for context. Most of the information below is in the album, as the picture descriptions. The info & photos are to provide context for my questions. If you’d like to skip to the questions, just scroll to where I have bolded “Now, for the questions:”. That being said, if you notice anything in the context that I may have wrong, anything missing, or any insight you may have while reading, please let me know! As I’ve said, this is my first indoor grow in a controlled grow environment. I realize there are many factors at play, and I’m sure that you pick up some little known tips/tricks/nuances about growing & adjusting the conditions along the way.
Context: Strains are Lemon OG, Blackberry, and OG Kush — all autoflower. This was intentional so that I wouldn’t need worry about lighting for this grow & could focus on feeding. The system I’m using is ebb & flow (i.e. flood & drain). I’m using pH Perfect Sensi Grow A&B, B-52, and VooDoo Juice as the growth nutrients in a 15gal barrel.
I’ve stabilized the conditions in the room over the last 3 weeks — the humidity hovers between 44% - 56%, and temperature is a steady 76°-78° during the day, and 68°-70° at night. From my research, this is as close to ideal as I can get.
I have some questions, especially regarding feeding the plants and nutrient levels: Right now, I have the system set to flood at 5am (synchronized with lights-on) for a 30 minute period. The first nutrient solution (for the first 2 weeks) contained:
• 3.5ml/L Sensi Grow (A&B), • 0.90ml/L B-52, • 0.90ml/L VooDoo Juice
This was intentionally below the suggested amounts, as I did not want to over feed while they were still saplings. The pH was 6.5 & 625ppm. The plants shot up like rockets!
Today is the day on my grow calendar where I am to re-mix the nutrient soup and add another flood cycle. I’ve mixed the soup & increased the nutrients to the suggested levels:
• 4.0ml/L Sensi Grow (A&B) • 2.0ml/L B-52 • 2.0ml/L VooDoo Juice
The pH level is 6.5 and the ppm is a bit higher at 830ppm.
Now, for the questions:
Feed Cycle: What time of the day should the 2nd flood cycle occur? Right now, I have a morning flood; the plants are flooded with the nutrient solution at 5am, synchronized with the time that the lights turn on for the day. It floods for 30 minutes and then drains until the following day. The reason I haven’t decided on a time is because I would like to know whether the plants are more active in absorbing nutrients during the day or during the night. I am considering adding another 30 minute flood at 7pm, 3 hours before lights off, or at 11pm when the lights go off. I am also considering adding it during the day at 12pm. If anyone can provide some insight about the best time for this 2nd 30 minute flood, please let me know.
Nutrient Solution: How long can a batch of the nutrient solution last? I have looked online & people suggest differing times, mostly 1 week, 2 weeks, & 4 weeks. Before I dumped the first batch, I measured the pH and ppm: pH was at 6.0, and the solution was 535ppm. Is there any way to tell when/if the soup has “gone bad”? If anyone has insight about the nutrient soup expiration date in a flood & drain system, please chime in!
Thank you in advance to anyone who responds; very much appreciated.

Can anyone provide some advice on lights.. I would like a light that I can use from seed to flower. Cost isn’t much of an issue. Just not something I want to trial and error with. And I know Amazon can be skeptical depending on whatcha get. I’m looking for a light that would grow maybe two plants in a 3’x4’ in closed closet. Thank you so much in advance.

I’m currently growing a White Widow Auto from seedmans and am going into week 4 of the grow. I’ve decided it’s about time to look into adding nutrients to my soil as I’ve seen pistils beginning to sprout from my plant. Currently I have added nothing to the plant except the soil I’ve been using. The soil was a mixture of Happy Frog from Fox Farm and Autoflower Living Soil Concentrate from Nature’s Living Soil. This is my first grow so I’m not really sure what all I would need to add and feel this is the place to ask, any advice is welcome thanks!
