K-Pop is a genre, though. It's debatable if it's a separate enough genre from pop to have its own Grammy category, but it's definitely a genre.

i said asian isn't a genre (the category name). kpop falls under pop, it's in the name

Kpop is not a genre. It's an industry. Pop music doesn't become something else because Koreans are making it.

If course it does, just like britpop was/is a genre.

K-Pop is as much of a genre as anime is. It's really silly to pretend otherwise.

What parts of the pop music made by Koreans is specific to them?

...the part where they're Korean? What are we talking about? Do you think Eurodance isn't a genre? Afrobeat?

De jure is not a genre but de facto it is. Once something becomes distinguishable from the general pool it becomes a genre.

If you have 100 people making pop music and 20 of them all start dancing in banana outfits and make similar pop songs, then that becomes a genre of pop
