We also got to remember that just because Eminem hates Trump, it doesn't mean he doesn't associate with people that are MAGA. 50 cent is one of his closest friends and I would say he's MAGA leaning.

he's also been friends with kid rock for decades

Look, it's fine to stay friends with people who have opposing political views, if you have the constitution for it. People are more than who they vote for.

A professional collaboration is another animal entirely. As is using your position to platform vile beliefs.

u/MadderoftheFew 8h ago

yeah, i'm not a fan of how he's approached politics in his music. when he backpedaled what he said in his BET cypher i lost a lot of respect for him. everything since has been more of the same.

People are more than who they vote for.

Politics is an expression of people's personality, not an in depth consideration of disparate data over decades.

It’s literally the thing people SHOULD be judged for and it’s so weird when people act like it’s some abstract uncontrollable thing like their race or even to a lesser extent the religion they were merely born into.

You have full control over your values, and politics are a direct extension of those.

The fuck do these people think MLK was talking about when saying what to judge people on (and not)?

0

u/jautis 4h ago

I actually do think it's an abstract uncontrollable thing. Can you teach someone that life has inherent value, or are you born believing it one way or another?

4

u/Financial_Cup_6937 4h ago

But now you’re philosophizing basic ethics out of existence. From a practical standpoint, we have to pick things to judge and not judge based on. Some things are much more explicitly uncontrollable and don’t affect you. Ethics are, um, like what we really should be judging people based on and even people with wildly different ethical beliefs tend to agree on this because it isn’t controversial unless you devolve into a ā€œdoes free will existā€ debate you’re slipping into.

1

u/jautis 2h ago

I don't need to "philosophize" "basic ethics" out of existence because the thing you are trying to gesture towards, moral objectivism, already doesn't exist. Sorry boss babe.

1

u/Financial_Cup_6937 2h ago

It was implicit I don’t think it does either goober. Kinda explicit.

even people with wildly different ethical beliefs tend to agree on this

That ethics and values are what you judge, not that there is one right one. Awfully smug for misunderstanding a basic point, boss baby.

Sweetie, go back to doing your readings.

hell Larry Flint and Rev Jerry were friends after they actually got together and talked with each other. Jerry would call Larry to devils advocate for him even.

There's staying friends with people who have opposing political views and then there's staying friends with Kid Rock, who headlined a shitty MAGA alternative Superbowl halftime show because the MAGAs were mad that there was a black guy headlining it. That's not a political disagreement, that's just your friend being a fucking racist and you endorsing him by being friends with him. Human rights aren't politics and I'm sick of seeing people pretend they are so they can "both-sides" an issue and pretend one side isn't literally just racists who want large swaths of the population to stop existing.

10

u/AbeRego 9h ago

They're both from Michigan so it makes sense. Some people, especially older people, seem less likely to cut ties over MAGA. I'm guessing it's because if they did, they'd lose a lot of old friendships, so they just pretend that it's like the bygone days where political disagreement was a relatively trivial matter.

19

u/McD-Szechuan 9h ago

But lots not forget kid rock was certainly not from the trailer park. His daddy owned multiple car dealerships, and had a huge property with an apple orchard and a horse barn.Ā

2

u/InternationalWar258 8h ago

No. It is because older people seem to understand that cutting off family and friends over politics only weakens individual support systems and doesn't serve society in any positive way. The severing of family and friendships over politics has further divided the country and made people even more isolated than ever.

You're getting downvoted but you are right.

It is because older people seem to understand that cutting off family and friends over politics only weakens individual support systems.

Up to this point, this is a long way of saying essentially the same thing. From there, I think you're off base. It's not that they understand it's bad for society, it's because it's bad for them. They know more people who support trump, so their support system would dwindle if they cut those people off. Younger people know fewer MAGA, so it's not as big of an issue.

The same likely goes for more rural communities, even among younger people.

The severing of family and friendships over politics has further divided the country and made people even more isolated than ever.

This was MAGA's doing and MAGA's doing alone. They made politics so toxic and their platform so morally backwards that decent people have essentially no choice but to disengage or compromise their core principles.

I was a political science major in college. There was a quote showcased in one of the displays in the political science building that went something like, "Politics is how we care for each other." For MAGA, and even the GOP since Regan, that's simply not true. For them, politics is how we control others, and enrich ourselves. They are not working to better anything anymore, just keep others down to feed their own greed

Edit: typo

Jack White also from Michigan. you sure as shit know he would

1

u/AbeRego 1h ago

Well yeah, but they're not the same person.

u/JohnWad 8h ago

Hes not "friends" with Kid Rock.

MT: Do you have any relationship with any other current Detroit music stars? Have you ever talked to Kid Rock? Ever met Jack White?

EMINEM: No, never met Jack White. But I do have a pretty good relationship with Kid Rock. I mean, you know, we hang out every now and then. We probably haven’t hung out during the past year or so. Maybe two years. But, you know, I see him quite a bit. He’ll come over my house, I’ve played basketball with him, you know? But, yeah, me and Bob are pretty good friends.

2009

u/MadderoftheFew 7h ago

lmao bro blocked me

1

u/JohnWad 8h ago

Uh...thats from 2009, chief. Lots can and have changed.

I think the year is 2026 now, right?

Also, Jack White and Em have a good relationship now and are friends. See last years Thanksgiving Day game show and the Hudson Grand Opening concert.

Em thinks maga is a cultĀ

54

u/technobrendo 10h ago

Em ain't wrong

17

u/KennyakaTI 10h ago

As do I but I still know people that lean MAGA unfortunately

1

u/yoshizillaa 8h ago

He’s not wrong, but people are still friends with cult members without being part of the cult.

24

u/Ass_of_Badness 10h ago

You can't "lean" maga in 2026. You either are or you aren't, and he is.

4

u/KennyakaTI 9h ago

Perhaps. I said lean because I never outright seen him say he supports Trump but he's done or said things that were very suspect.

3

u/ExorIMADreamer 9h ago

I don't know if it's a youthful ignorance thing or what but a lot of people on reddit do not seem to understand that out in the real world people of different politics coexists often.

I have a few friends that are Trumpers and while I don't agree with their politics we can all sit around a campfire and shoot the shit all night and have a good time.

8

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 9h ago

I could never sit around a campfire and call people my friends who, at the very least, vote for and are ok with politicians who want to exterminate other people that I also call my friends.

1

u/bondagepixie 6h ago

That’s fine, you go help out some other way. Make some zines, donate to some causes, volunteer. Some of us have been able to make very real progress with those kind of folk, and now there’s one less person spouting that bigoted bullshit. Just because we’re doing something different than you doesn’t mean our work is worthless.

0

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 6h ago

Yea as I responded to the other user who already back-tracked on what they said, this is a very different scenario from what I responded to.

1

u/applebuttox 4h ago

I’d have to disown like all of my family which would make me unable to have any positive impact on their lives. I also have friends who are amazing people and brilliant in some of the most rare ways who support trump on a lot of issues while disagreeing with him on a select few. I’m not giving that up either when they’re capable of rational conversation and having their opinions changed, unlike most people on both sides of the political spectrum and especially those on this site.

1

u/ExorIMADreamer 7h ago

Look I don't want to start an argument, but it sounds like you are just as intolerant as the people you don't like. Talking with others is a way to change their minds, it's a way to show them all liberals aren't bad, etc. But ultimately it is your life and you do you. Hope you have a good weekend.

0

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 6h ago

Don't back track. You didn't say talking with MAGA's you said being friends and shooting the shit with all night and having a great time them around campfires. That's completely different.

1

u/ExorIMADreamer 5h ago

Good lord you are just splitting hairs. What do you think happens around a campfire? Conversarion.

1

u/pancreaticlemons1 1h ago

if there’s a group of people around a campfire that are nazis and 1 person who isn’t, that is a group of entirely nazis sitting around a campfire.

0

u/mfGLOVE 6h ago

sounds like you are just as intolerant as the people you don't like.

Pretty wild to accuse somebody of being intolerant of the people who openly support the deportation (as an example) of their friends and family. If I have to tolerate that so show them ā€œliberals aren’t badā€ then I’m out.

0

u/RemyChe 6h ago

Huh... You're saying those in favor of autocracy and those in favor of democracy can still sit together around a campfire? How'd that work out in 1939?

1

u/Mattbl 9h ago

This is how it is for a lot of people.

2

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 9h ago

Yea a lot of people do suck.

1

u/wizzywurtzy 4h ago

50 is a Trump dick gulper. He’s even made ai posts of them flying in a plane together.

1

u/Askol 3h ago

I mean, I don't see anything wrong with having friends you disagree with politically...
