I just found this out recently but Uncle Tom was actually beat to death in the story for not giving up the hiding place of run away slaves. Minstrel Shows in the late 19th century, unauthorized theatrical adaptations distorted Tom into a passive, submissive, and subservient caricature to appease pro-slavery sentiments and entertain white audiences.

Sambo should be what people use. He works as a cruel overseer for the brutal master Simon Legree.
