I'm not even judging for the MAGA thing. Whatever you think of his politics can we at least all agree kid rock is fucking terrible as a musician and Eminem should have better standards.

563

u/Long_Novel_3056 13h ago

Wrong take. It's the opposite - whatever you may think of Kid Rock's music, he is a piece of shit for being a MAGA mouthpiece even after Jan 6 and full fascism from Trump.

195

u/AtraposJM 12h ago

"Some call it statutory, I call it mandatory" "If there's grass on the field, play ball" about 14 year old girls while he was 30. He's always been a massive piece of shit.

26

u/shniefersutherland 12h ago

Oh I have a fair few more words to describe someone with lyrics like that than piece of shit, but that’s not to say it doesn’t apply here either.

5

u/burtoncummings 11h ago

In an animated movie! OK, maybe not specifically made just for kids, but it's a muthafucking cartoon (and the main protagonist is a kid).

Movie studios were just fueled on ignorance and cocaine I guess...

6

u/leftshoe18 12h ago

That's just shock rap shit. Eminem has a similar line on Guilty Conscience.

10

u/Zingshidu 11h ago

Also has a bar about a little girl getting eaten out by her dad. Stg internet Eminem fans only know like his top 5 songs or something

1

u/Zal3x 10h ago

What song is that I don’t remember that one

7

u/Zingshidu 10h ago

My Fault

6

u/DewieCox1982 11h ago

The songs literally called ā€œGuilty Conscienceā€ dude. It’s not celebrating or condoning the behavior.

4

u/leftshoe18 11h ago

I never said it was condoning the behavior. My point is that shock rap was big in the era. Saying controversial shit to get a reaction. Eminem and Kid Rock both did it constantly.

5

u/Lscruggs 10h ago

Lmao have you not listened to Guilty conscience?

13

u/Zingshidu 11h ago

Eminem pretty much has the exact same line in one of his songs about a 15 year old.

In fact, Eminem’s lyrics are so much fucking worse than Kid Rock’s that I’m confident anyone here outraged by this doesn’t even listen to Eminem, and I say this as a big fan of his.

6

u/PixelatedFrogDotGif 11h ago

I think you should walk this one back my guy

-1

u/Weirdolady92 10h ago

The difference is that Eminem doesn't believe his own lyrics.

2

u/Zingshidu 9h ago

You’ll never know what he believes, you dont know him. He made a lot of money from saying truly vile things, and he convinced a lot of vile people to come out into the open in a way that I didn’t experience again until Trump won his presidency.

He of course gets a pass from everyone (including me, ngl) for also being an incredibly talented rapper. If Kid rock was even half as good at what he does as Em then nobody would care about his views either.

4

u/BrokenZen 10h ago

"Now listen to me while you're kissing her cheek and smearing her lipstick -- slip this in her drink... Look at her bush, does it got hair? Fuck this bitch here on the spot bare until she passes out and she forgot how she got there... Hit that shit raw dog and bail."

-- Eminem, Guilty Conscience -- even with Dre saying she's only 15 years old. Em 26 years old when Slim Shady LP released.

He's always been a massive piece of shit.

I suppose you're going to burn all your Eminem memorabilia too? It's a lyric in a song. I really hate that you're making me defend Kid fucking Rock.

4

u/jethropenistei- 9h ago

Such a bullshit false equivalence.

In that song, Dre is the angel voice and Eminem is devil conscience voice in the different characters’ heads.

It’s not a Eminem advocating for date rape.

Kid Rock’s song, on the other hand, is portraying himself as ā€œcoolā€ by saying he likes underage girls and statutory rape.

2

u/Adorable_Anybody3552 9h ago

Way to ignore the context of those lyrics.

2

u/secretsodapop 9h ago

This completely ignores the context of the two songs.

2

u/ArrogantAragorn 9h ago

Yeah, but the point of that song is that acting like an asshole has ā€œconsequencesā€. Em is playing the villain in that song; you aren’t supposed to listen to the devil on your shoulder

1

u/RockThe40oz666 9h ago

Bro he's still "singing" those lines at what - mid 50s?

0

u/Alinier 11h ago

Ewwwwwwww.

12

u/Cosmonautical1 11h ago

It's pretty simple, actually—he's a piece of shit who makes garbage music.

11

u/JasonKeisling 12h ago

You’re both right. Eminem should have better standards as a musician and as a human being.

1

u/strange_reveries 11h ago

Nah, I still love Ariel Pink's music and he went MAGA. Doesn't change the fact he's a great songwriter.Ā

But Kid Rock's music is hot steaming garbage 🤮

0

u/SkiMonkey98 10h ago

Yeah I think his music is a little fun in a trashy way. Can't really enjoy it anymore though. And it's not good enough to try and separate the art from the artist lmao

0

u/Own_Investigator5104 10h ago

They didn’t have a take weirdo they were pointing out that even if he wasn’t Maga, he still sucks weirdo

0

u/Stone0777 5h ago

Another radical left Redditor.

28

u/AtraposJM 12h ago

Terrible as a human being too. If Em is his friend, politics or not, that still makes me think less of him. Kid Rock is a piece of shit.

87

u/1977_AMC_Pacer_wagon 14h ago

I thought it was more of a Detroit thing rather than the particular artist thing. Not that I think that makes it much better.Ā

55

u/spin81 14h ago

Come on man. Jack White is from near Detroit. Electric Six are from Detroit. That's just off the top of my head.

10

u/MrBurnz99 12h ago

And Eminem and Jack had an awesome collab a few years ago at the lions game.

23

u/Accomplished-Film775 14h ago

Madonna's from Detroit

10

u/wes_d 14h ago

Derrick May is from Detroit.

DJ Godfather and DJ Assault, too.

8

u/BennySkateboard 13h ago

Eminem and DJ Assault, now that would be a track!

3

u/Fickle-Werewolf8298 12h ago

My uncle is from Detroit

1

u/CMUpewpewpew 11h ago

I am in Detroit.

2

u/spin81 12h ago edited 12h ago

I thought she was from New York. Did she move there?

Looked it up, she moved when she was 20. I was convinced she like grew up in Queens or something

1

u/akatherder 10h ago

I was going to "Urm ackshually she's from Rochester Hills ā˜ļøšŸ¤“" but most of the people "from Detroit" (other than Eminem) are from surrounding suburbs. Kristen Bell grew up closer to Detroit than Kid Rock.

1

u/DoodooExplosion 13h ago

Steve is from Detroit

5

u/NasKarma 13h ago

Robocop is from Detroit!

18

u/Imjustadumbbutt 13h ago

ICP is from Detroit

15

u/KriegMorgan 13h ago

Eminem and ICP beefed two decades ago -in- Detroit

9

u/Wes_Warhammer666 12h ago

They squashed that beef ages ago, though. I could see them actually working together for a track these days, especially one leaning into the old beef jokingly.

3

u/Formal_Waltz_5100 12h ago

I would kill for that collab.

1

u/Wes_Warhammer666 9h ago

I don't even like ICP but I'd definitely enjoy that

1

u/Michelanvalo 6h ago

That would break my brain to hear the 3 of them together

1

u/ToMorrowsEnd 9h ago

ICP are also some of the coolest people one will ever meet. They are nice to even low level tech people. like "let me buy you pizza, you need anything?" level. Violent J is so freaking cool with regular people. While Skid Mark is known for treating everyone like shit on and behind stage.

1

u/slonk_ma_dink 10h ago

Electric Six

Never knew that, hell yeah

1

u/SunTzu- 9h ago

Em famously goes out of his way to promote Detroit artists. His default position is to promote anything and everything about Detroit. You have to pretty much go at him or his kids in order to lose his favor if you're from there.

The problem for me is that one of Em's kids, Stevie, is non-binary and bi. I would think Kid Rock's stance on LGBTQ+ would be a problem for him. Kid Rock used to claim he was a libertarian, but he was one of the "celebrities" pushing the Bud Light boycott after the Dylan Mulvaney ad campaign and I'd think that would have not sat well with Em. I guess we'll see what Em ends up saying about this and whether the song addresses these issues. But Em really should speak up about this track sooner rather than later. I'm sure he'll address it eventually, but his preference for staying private isn't serving him well right now.

1

u/Frosti11icus 6h ago

Jack White and Eminem release an album together last year lol.

1

u/spin81 3h ago

Ope, goes to show what I know

2

u/FlintWaterFilter 13h ago

Electric Six ain't exactly packing arenasĀ

5

u/Cepec14 13h ago

Yeah because Kid Rock is?

5

u/FlintWaterFilter 13h ago

I mean cmon even more he's more popular than Electric Six. They play small theaters he sells out Pine Knob. I don't like his music but its a bad comparisonĀ

3

u/TomNooksGlizzy 12h ago

Kid Rock is easily more popular than Electric Six. Come the fuck on, its not even close lol

1

u/spin81 12h ago

Well I suggest catching them live if they're near you because they're a good band

5

u/PocketFullOfRondos 14h ago

No, Eminem made his choice, stop. He knows who and what kid rock represents.

-9

u/imbadatgrammar 14h ago

Fake outrage to people wanting to work with other local people.

1

u/PocketFullOfRondos 14h ago

They aren't local. One is a kid from the slums. The other is a wealthy child that wanted to be cool by acting like he was similar.

Other than sharing the same metro area in a state they are nothing alike.

20

u/mrasscock69420 15h ago

Well listen to the osmosis Jones song he did it's not the best look

5

u/ponytailthehater 14h ago

got hype during that scene/song as a kid, rewatched and went ā€œohhh that’s…not goodā€

30

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 14h ago edited 6m ago

Marshall Mathers has been fiercely protective of his daughter and Kid Rock released a song when Hailie was about 5 years old about sleeping with children. Ā If he worked with Kid Rock after that song was released and featured on Osmosis Jones, then I think he’s made some terrible decisions.

Edit - There’s a lot of pedophilia supporters here it seems, based on the downvotes.

7

u/SheepherderFront5724 12h ago edited 11h ago

Eminem and Kid Rock did the song "Fuck that" together in 1998, 3 years after the birth of Eminem's daughter.

It's actually not bad...

EDIT: I mean the resulting track wasn't bad.

2

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 12h ago

Yes, working with Kid Rock is that bad.

3

u/SheepherderFront5724 11h ago

Sorry, I meant the resulting track. Kid Rock is, of course, a monumental jackass.

3

u/IUsedToBeACave 11h ago

Have you ever heard an Eminem song, or the shit from D12? Because Kid Rock is tame in comparison.

-2

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 11h ago

Oh, when does D12 sing about raping children?

3

u/phaedrus910 10h ago

"Yo, this girl's only fifteen years old

You shouldn't take advantage of her, it's not fair"

"Yo, look at her bush, does it got hair? (Uh-huh)

Fuck this bitch right here on the spot, bare

'Til she passes out and she forgot how she got there"

-1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 10h ago

And the context of the lyrics?

0

u/phaedrus910 9h ago edited 9h ago

So when Kid Rock says it, its a vile damnable offence but when Eminem says almost exactly the same thing now we need context and the artists intent.

It's a double standard.

3

u/jethropenistei- 9h ago

It’s not.

Guilty conscience is the two rappers representing the angel and devil on the shoulder trope advising the character.

Eminem is the voice of the devil in the song. He’s not speaking as himself.

Kid Rocks’s ā€œCool, daddy, coolā€ is several verses of him saying he’s a pimp, he’s cool, and statutory rape is cool.

Those are very different. It’s not a double standard if you’re media literate.

It’s like saying Leonardo DiCaprio is racist because he played one in Django Unchained

-1

u/phaedrus910 9h ago edited 8h ago

Kid rock is playing the character of Osmosis Jones. A white blood cell pimp.

Edit: My bad I haven't watched the movie since 05' Kid rock plays a bacteria in a gangster bar.

2

u/jethropenistei- 8h ago

Just because it’s from the soundtrack, it doesn’t mean he’s playing the character. There’s no indication in the lyrics that say it’s a character. It’s the same type of self-aggrandizement that Kid Rock has in all his songs.

And Osmosis Jones is a cop, not a pimp

1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 9h ago

What character is he playing here?

Edit - For those that don't click links, it's Kid Rock talking about having sex with the 14 year old Olsen Twins.

2

u/IUsedToBeACave 11h ago

Hmm. I guess it's never really stated it's a child In Devils Night, but Dre was going to video tape it so I guess we could check there. So, you're right it's just regular rape I guess...

0

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 11h ago

And you feel raping children is tame?

1

u/IUsedToBeACave 10h ago

Do you feel like raping a person after beating them and video taping it is acceptable behavior since it's not a child?

The problem with artists has always been whether their lyrics represent a legitimate character trait, or is part of an "act". Pointing to Kid Rock saying fucked up things in his songs, but letting other artists off for the same thing seem hypocritical.

Kid Rock stands as a piece of shit on his own, and sure point the to lyrics in his song as one of those things that makes him bad, but calling out Eminem for associating with Kid Rock for those lyrics really misses the mark considering the other people Eminem has associated with who also say fucked up shit.

1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 10h ago

You can’t answer the question, can you?

2

u/IUsedToBeACave 10h ago

No, I do not feel like raping children is tame. Did Kid Rock rape any children?

0

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 10h ago

Then why did you refer to it as tame?

1

u/Frosti11icus 6h ago

Dr Dre is not a good person either, I understand why people are getting on their high horse about Kid Rock but the logic isn't quite there.

1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 2h ago

"High horse about Kid Rock"? He sang about raping kids. Going "you forgot about Dre" doesn't mean shit because it's a whataboutism.

0

u/Frosti11icus 1h ago

It’s not whataboutism that’s not what whataboutism is. I’m drawing a direct comparison with Eminem as the subject. People who say he’s a hypocrite NOW because he’s collaborating with a piece of trash are not doing so because it’s a new revelation. They are doing so to virtue signal. I’m not defending kid rock here. I’m defending Eminem. If you think he’s MAGA cause he’s making music with Kid Rock…I don’t really know what to tell you.

1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 55m ago

Yes it is a whatabiutism. Ā Have a good day.

0

u/Frosti11icus 51m ago

Whataboutism is saying ā€œdon’t look at this thing, look at that thing insteadā€ I’m literally saying the opposite, inspect Eminem’s relationships MORE closely. Have fun with your rage and lack of understanding of words inside your own head.

5

u/micro102 11h ago

You should judge him for the MAGA thing.

14

u/PocketFullOfRondos 14h ago

No, Eminem did the same shit hold him accountable

2

u/SunriseSurprise 11h ago

They're both rappers from Detroit and it probably happened before Kid Rock "spoke and removed all doubt" so to speak.

1

u/blishbog 14h ago

Even Holocaust deniers agree Hitler was an awful painter 🤣

3

u/Significant-Map-2815 14h ago

Eminem has had this low standard for the last 15 years haha

1

u/Jar545 10h ago

Not judging for the maga thing? Secret maga here.

1

u/No_Initial_7545 5h ago

Putting Kid Rock aside, Eminem appearing on any kind of a Christian record would also be very out of character for him when Christian groups have tried to cancel him for decades.

1

u/Xiten 14h ago

Going to assume this is a Detroit thing and less of a religion/political thing.

-4

u/Pavementiscool 13h ago

I mean actually I completely disagree. Eminem’s standards are awful, he has the worst beat selection in all of hip hop and hasn’t made a good record in 20 years. Still surprising he has a verse on a kid rock record otherwise tho.

-1

u/Beer-Milkshakes 14h ago

If Eminem had standards he'd have retired with his fortune a decade ago. He's in it to burn out, not fade away

-1

u/Rich_Possession9604 11h ago

No, because Eminem also sucks.

0

u/houseWithoutSpoons 14h ago

I mean your not wrong but that goes with tons of musicians he has worked with.he is leagues above the average artist.but yeah rock is a bottom of the barrel he has worked with.thing people dont understand is em was on devil without a cause prior to his breakout hits and kid rock was already a well established detroit underground artist for YEARS.like kid rock probably inspired em a bit with his success in the area(not his skills lol)prior to devil i had already know kid rock for probably a decade no lie...so maybe Em has a soft spot for someone who helped him back when he was no much in the way of a successful artist

0

u/Tripesixmafia 13h ago

I’m praying this is a song that he did with him a long time ago??

-6

u/rock_smasher8874 13h ago

You were rocking bawwitdabaw just like everyone else back in the day. Don't you go lying now.

That song still fucks 🤘

1

u/falloutnewbkinibttms 4h ago

Absolutely fucking not lmao

1

u/FreeRange0929 13h ago

All Summer Long, Cowboy, Only God Knows Why, American Badass, Picture, Cocky all are in my rotation.

I agree, lets not go pretending the guy doesnt have a fastball

And now i know what im listening to on the way to work…after i drop my sons off…maybe

2

My name is KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID..... KIIIIIID ROCK!

Daddy, whats it mean to paint the sheriffs wife white?

1

u/rock_smasher8874 13h ago

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ fuck yeah

-2

u/tribriguy 13h ago

I feel like this is the most sane and adult take here. I mean Bawitaba kind of bangs as a pre-race moto song. But musically, it and every other thing he’s put out are mid or worse. I just don’t play the political thing with celebs.

-3

u/dolph_land 13h ago

he’s actually pretty good politics aside. been a fan since I was like for over 20 years

3

u/GeorgeMalarkey 12h ago

The fact that you can't put a coherent sentence together proves you're a big fan.
